In this paper,we propose an in-process measurement method of the diameter of micro-optical fiber such as a tapered optical *** proposed technique is based on analyzing optically scattered light generated by standing wave *** proposed method is significant in that it requires an only limited measurement range and does not require a high dynamic range *** properties are suitable for in-process *** experiment verified that the proposed method could measure a fiber diameter as stable as±0.01μm under an air turbulence *** a result of comparing the measured diameter distribution with those by scanning electron microscopy,it was confirmed that the proposed method has a measurement accuracy better than several hundred nanometers.

Reliability of urinary tests for antibody to helicobacterpylori in patients with pulmonary tuberculosis

AIM: Although the quality of currently available urinary tests for detecting antibody to helicobacter pylori(h pylori) have been proved in some populations, the accuracy has not been studied regarding patients who suffer from pulmonary tuberculosis with multi-drug treatments. The present study was conducted to evaluate the accuracy of these urinary tests for antibody to h pylori in these patients. METhODS: Serum samples from 61 inpatients with pulmonary tuberculosis were tested using enzyme immunoassay, and urine samples were assayed by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay method (URINELISA) and immunochromatography method (RAPIRAN). Medicines prescribed to the patients were recorded for medical charts, to evaluate the influences on the results of urinary tests. RESULTS: The sensitivity, specificity, and consistency of URINELJSA against the serum test were 93.1%, 65.6%, and 78.6% respectively, and those of RAPIRAN were 86.2%, 93.7%, and 90.1% respectively, which were almost equal to the data previously reported. Prescribed medicines had little influence on the results. CONCLUSION: The two urinary tests for detecting h pylori antibody have a diagnostic accuracy in patients with pulmonary tuberculosis given multiple anti-tuberculosis drugs.

Previous work found that different Japanese lineages of salamanders had quite different levels of species and genetic diversity. Lineages vary from having one to several species and the extent of genetic variation among lineages differs substantially. Most speciose,genus hynobius contains 18 species and several potential cryptic species. We explore genetic diversity in this genus by combining comprehensive sampling and mitochondrial DNA sequences. Based on this and previous analyses of salamanders,relative times of divergence are employed to evaluate the relationship between age and diversity among the four major lineages whose distributions broadly overlap on the islands. For hynobius,our analyses are congruent with the previously reported high level of cryptic diversity in morphology and allozymes,particularly in species composed of non-sister matrilines. Both species and genetic diversity correlate with the relative ages of the lineages. This correlation indicates that the variation in levels of diversity can be explained,to a considerable extent,by the hypothesis that older insular lineages have accumulated greater diversity. In addition to the Korean Peninsula,h. leechii might have survived in another Pleistocene glacial refugium north of the peninsula and this refugium provided a source of colonization after the last glacial maximum.

AIM： To develop the effective technology for reconstruction of a liver organ in vitro using a bio-artificial liver. METhODS： We previously reported that a radial-flow bioreactor （RFB） could provide a three-dimensional highdensity culture system. We presently reconstructed the liver organoid using a functional human hepatocellular carcinoma cell line （FLC-5） as hepatocytes together with mouse immortalized sinusoidal endothelial cell （SEC） line M1 and mouse immortalized hepatic stellate cell （hSC） line A7 as non parenchymal cells in the RFB. Two × 10^7 FLC-5 cells were incubated in the RFB. After 5 d, 2 × 10^7 A7 cells were added in a similar manner followed by another addition of 10^7 M1 cells 5 d later. After three days of perfusion, some cellulose beads with the adherent cells were harvested. The last incubation period included perfusion with 200 nmol/L swinholide A for 2 h and then the remaining cellulose beads along with adherent cells were harvested from the RFB. The cell morphology was observed by transmission electron microscopy （TEM） and scanning electron microscopy （SEM）. To assess hepatocyte function, we compared mRNA expression for urea cycle enzymes as well as albumin synthesis by FLC-5 in monolayer cultures compared to those of single-type cultures and cocultures in the RFB. RESULTS： By transmission electron microscopy, FLC-5, M1, and A7 were arranged in relation to the perfusion side in a liver-like organization. Structures resembling bile canaliculi were seen between FCL-5 cells. Scanning electron microscopy demonstrated fenestrae on SEC surfaces. The number of vesiculo-vacuolar organelles （WO） and fenestrae increased when we introduced the actin-binding agent swinholide-A in the RFB for 2h. With respect to liver function, urea was found in the medium, and expression of mRNAs encoding arginosuccinate synthetase and arginase increased when the three cell types were cocultured in the RFB. however, albumin synthesis decreased. high-performance organic friction modifiers(OFMs)added to lubricating oils are crucial for reducing energy loss and carbon *** establish a new class of OFMs,we measured the friction and wear properties of N-(2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-1-oxyl-4-piperidinyl)dodecaneamide referred to as *** effect of its head group chemistry,which is characterized by a rigid six-membered ring sandwiched by an amide group and a terminal free oxygen radical,was also investigated with both experiments and quantum mechanical(QM)*** measurement results show that C12Amide-TEMPO outperforms the conventional OFMs of glyceryl monooleate(GMO)and stearic acid,particularly for load-carrying capacity,wear reduction,and stability of friction over *** friction and wear reduction effect of C12Amide-TEMPO is also greatly superior to those of C12Ester-TEMPO and C12Amino-TEMPO,in which ester and amino groups replace the amide group,highlighting the critical role of the amide *** QM calculation results suggest that,in contrast to C12Ester-TEMPO,C12Amino-TEMPO,and the conventional OFMs of GMO and stearic acid,C12Amide-TEMPO can form effective boundary films on iron oxide surfaces with a unique double-layer structure:a strong surface adsorption layer owing to the chemical interactions of the amide oxygen and free radical with iron oxide surfaces,and an upper layer owing to the interlayer hydrogen-bonding between the amide hydrogen and free radical or between the amide hydrogen and ***,the intralayer hydrogen-bonding in each of the two layers is also *** suggest that in addition to strong surface adsorption,the interlayer and intralayer hydrogen-bonding also increases the strength of the boundary films by enhancing the cohesion strength,thereby resulting in the high tribological performance of *** findings in this study are expected to provide new hints for the optimal molecular design of OFMs.

The present study aimed to examine roles of histamine neurons in leptin signaling pathways and leptin resistant states. h1-receptor knockout (h1KO) mice showed no change in daily food intake, adiposity, growth curve, basal expression of hypothalamic neuropeptides, uncoupling proteins (UCPs) or ob gene. however, h1KO mice fed with high fat diet increased fat deposition and ob gene expression more excessively. Leptin-induced feeding suppression was attenuated in h1KO mice. Chronic leptin treatment decreased visceral fat and up-regulated UCPs expression in brown and white fat. These effects of leptin were attenuated in pair-fed h1KO mice. Chronic histamine or histidine treatment decreased body weight, body fat deposition, and serum glucose and insulin in diet-induced obese, ob/ob and db/db mice. Activation of histamine neurons suppressed ob gene expression in the fat tissue together with elevation of seurm leptin and UCPs mRNA. These actions of neuronal histamine were attenuated in the double knockout mice, i.e., db/db mice with h1KO. Taken together, h1KO mice, a novel leptin resistant model, elucidate essential roles of h1-R in energy intake and expenditure as a down-stream-signaling message of leptin actions in the brain. The anti-obesity and anti-diabetic effects of histamine neurons provide a new insight into therapeutic strategies on human obesity and diabetes with leptin resistance.

Photosynthetic rate at the present atmospheric condition is limited by the CO2-fixing enzyme ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate carboxylase/oxygenase(Rubisco)because of its extremely low catalytic rate(kcat)and poor affinity for C02(Kc)and specificity for CO2(Sc/O).Rubisco in C4 plants generally shows higher k cat than that in C3 *** consists of eight large subunits and eight small subunits(RbcS).Previously,the chimeric incorporation of sorghum C4-type RbcS significantly increased the k cat of Rubisco in a C3 plant,*** this study,we knocked out rice RbcS multigene family using the CRISPR-Cas9 technology and completely replaced rice RbcS with sorghum RbcS in rice *** hybrid Rubisco showed almost C4 plant-like catalytic properties,i.e.,higher kcai,higher Kc,and lower Sc/*** lines expressing the hybrid Rubisco accumulated reduced levels of Rubisco,whereas they showed slightly but significantly higher photosynthetic capacity and similar biomass production under high C 02 condition compared with wild-type ***-resolution crystal structural analysis of the wild-type Rubisco and hybrid Rubisco revealed the structural differences around the central pore of Rubisco and the pC-pD hairpin in *** propose that such differences,particularly in the pC-pD hairpin,may impact the flexibility of Rubisco catalytic site and change its catalytic properties.

Composite materials composed of LiMnO2, a typical electrode material for lithium ion battery, and a chiral cyanide-bridged Ni（Ⅱ）-Fe（Ⅲ） coordination polymer [NiL2][Fe（CN）6]·4h2O （Ni-Fe, h-form）（L = （1R,2R）-（-）-1,2-cyclohexane-diamine） or its deuterium isomer, [NiL2][Fe（CN）6]·4D2O （Ni-Fe, D-form） have been prepared by the various ratios （w/w） of Ni-Fe：LiMnO2 = 10：0 （pure Ni-Fe）, 9：1, 8：2, 7：3, 6：4, 5：5, 4：6, 3：7, 2：8, 1：9 and 0：10 （pure LiMnO2）. Gradual shift of IR （infrared） spectra by changing the ratios and losing difference between h-form and D-form of Ni-Fe due to isotope effects revealed adsorption of Ni-Fe onto LiMnO2 to form composite materials. Formation of composite materials of Ni-Fe and LiMnO2 could be also proved losing ferromagnetic behavior of LiMnO2 on increasing of the ratios of Ni-Fe in each composite. In contrast to smoothly positive thermal expansion of pure LiMnO2 along the crystallographic b axis, variable temperature powder XRD （X-ray diffraction） patterns at 100-300 K of the composite materials exhibited thermally-accessible lattice distortion along the b axis with different ratios. It is also proved deviation of ideal linear correlation of an evaluation function, In K = a/T ＋ b （where, K = （d（T） - d（0））/d（T）, d（T） denotes nλ/（sin 2θ） at T （K））.
