Two-dimensional structure of density fluctuations is examined during the current jump phase, indicating a change from the open magnetic fields to the closed ones. During the smooth current ramp-up phase the two-dimensional contour of the LiI intensity shows vertically alignment, consistent with the magnetic surfaces. At the inflection point in Ip ramp-up the LiI intensity contour becomes flat in the observation regime and then suddenly a steep gradient and higher intensity regime are formed in the vertical direction. This higher intensity corresponds to a burst of LiI waveform. According to these changes in the contour, it is found that, within ~1 ms around the burst of LiI, a low frequency coherent wave with a long wavelength rapidly grows. The relations with other signals （magnetic flux and microwave stray power） are discussed with respect to the topological change in the magnetic configuration and mode conversion of the incident electromagnetic waves.

AIM: To evaluate the neuroprotective effect of a dietary supplement(ClearVision EX~?;CV) against glutamateinduced excitotoxicity in ***: We evaluated the protective effects CV on glutamate-induced cell toxicity of an immortalized mouse hippocampal cell line(hT-22) in vitro and N-methyl-Daspartate(NMDA) induced retinal injury in vivo. Once-daily oral administration of CV or vehicle(5% Arabic gum) was started the day before the NMDA injection and continued until the end of the study. Electroretinograms(ERGs) were recorded to evaluate the retinal function at 2 d after NMDA injection. Furthermore, a histological evaluation, Western blot analysis, and immunohistochemistry were performed for assessing the signal transduction pathway. RESULTS: hT-22 cell death was induced by the addition of glutamate and co-incubation with CV protected against it. Oral administration of CV inhibited the decrease in scotopic threshold response amplitudes induced by the intravitreal injection of NMDA and those of the thickness of the inner retinal layer in the histological evaluation. The increased phosphorylated levels of extracellular signalregulated kinase(ERK) but not cAMP response element binding protein(CREB) or Akt were observed 1 h after NMDA injection in both the vehicle-and CV-treated rats;however, p ERK activation was no more upregulated at 3 h after NMDA injection. pERK upregulation was observed in Müller ***: CV shows a protective effect against both glutamate-induced hT-22 cell death and NMDAinduced retinal damage. pERK upregulation in the Müller cells plays a key role in the protective effect of CV against glutamate-induced retinal toxicity.

Goals and Background: Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a chronic inflammatory bowel disease characterized by dense infiltration of lymphocytes, plasma cells, neutrophils, and monocyte-macrophages into the colonic mucosa. Leukocytapheresis is a procedure for selectively removing white blood cells from withdrawn blood. It i s used for the treatment of several autoimmune diseases. This study was performe d to evaluate the effectiveness of leukocytapheresis for inducing and maintainin g remission in corticosteroid-resistant UC, as compared with corticosteroid res ponsive UC. Study: Forty-five patients with active UC who were treated with a d ose of 1 mg/kg per day or more of prednisolone given systemically for at least 2 weeks were evaluated. Twenty patients (6 males, 14 females) in whom improvement was induced only by high doses of prednisolone were allocated as the corticoste roid-responsive group. The other 25 patients (11 males, 14 females) who did not respond to the above-mentioned dose of prednisolone therapy were allocated as the corticosteroid-resistant group and received leukocytapheresis therapy once a week for 5 weeks. Of patients who had a remission, the corticosteroid-respons ive group continued to have the conventional therapy and the corticosteroid-res istant group were given leukocytapheresis once every 4 weeks for at least 2 year s as maintenance therapy. Results: Remission was induced by 5 weeks of leukocyta pheresis in 23 of the 25 (92%) patients with corticosteroid-resistant active U C. The number of days required to achieve remission of UC was fewer in patients who received leukocytapheresis than in those who did not. Follow-up study of th e patients who had remission showed similar relapse rates at 2 years in the pati ents who received leukocytapheresis and those given high doses of prednisolone a lone. Conclusions: Leukocytapheresis is an effective treatment of acute corticos teroid-resistant UC but does not prevent the recurrence of UC.

Study on the Structure of Peroxide Cross-Linked Polyethylene Pipes with Several Stabilizers

Cross-linked polyethylene (PEX) pipes used in hot water supply are required for high mechanical strength and high creep resistance at high temperature. Especially PEX-a pipes which are made by peroxide cross-linking have better performance, such as creep resistance and thermal shock resistance than the pipes made by the other cross-linking method. Because the PEX-a pipes indicate the higher cross-link degree as compared with the other PEX pipes. In this study, the PEX-a pipes which were mixed with several stabilizers were tested to evaluate the effects on cross-link degree and the oxygen induction time. And also they are evaluated with the chlorine aqueous solution by the performance of the long-term hydrostatic pressure test and the long-term hydro dynamic pressure test. As a result, it was found that the combination of antioxidants for PEX-a pipes plays an important role to prolong the oxygen induction time without inhibiting the cross-linking. From the results of the 1h pulsed NMR measurement over the melting point of polyethylene, it was found that each peroxide PEX pipe with different antioxidant combinations indicated the different proportion and crosslink density of cross-linked region, in addition, that these pipes had the effective structure of cross-linking for the hydrostatic and hydrodynamic pressure test with the chlorine aqueous solution. Therefore, it was considered to be useful results for studies of the stricture of cross-linking of polyethylene.

GC/FT-IR Analysis of Novel 4,6,9-Triene and 2,4,6,9-Tetraene Occurring in a Female Pheromone Gland of <i>Arctia plantaginis</i>(Erebidae: Arctiinae)

This study is devoted to testing the single droplet combustion of a diesel light oil (LO) and a light cycle oil (LCO). The testswere carried out in an atmospheric hot chamber preset at a temperature of 1173 K. A quartz fiber was used to suspend the oildroplet. The resultS showed that the LCO droplet had higher soot yield, whereas both the LCO and LO droplets did not haveobvious coke formation. Microexplosions were obvious during the combustion but the LO droplets were more apt tomicroexplode. The ignition delay was relatively shorter for the LCO droplet but the flame 1ifetime and droplet lifetime werenearly the same for the droplets of both the oils (flame lifetime being the time between ignition and extinction, and dropletlifetime being the sum of ignition delay and flame lifetime). The disruptive burning more or less complicated the time-seriesvariations of droplet size (d). A linear region, however, can still be identified on the curve dvs. t to show the overallchanges of droplet size with burning time (t). This allowcd an apparent burning rate constant to be defined according to thed-law. The burning rate constant varied with the initial droplet diameter (d), which caused the relative droplet size, (d/d),to be normalized by the relative time t/d (n=1.l0). Further analysis showed that this normalization Tesulted from therespective unification of the unsteady and quasi-steady burning phases of different droplets. These results were alsocorroborated by burning an oil blend of LO and LCO at volume fractions of 50% in the same conditions.

Fifteen subspecies of the wood tiger moth, Arctia plantaginis (Lepidoptera: Erebidae: Arctiinae), have been recorded in the Northern hemisphere. An analysis of crude pheromone extracts by GC equipped with an electroantennographic (EAG) detector showed four EAG-active components (Comps. I–IV) that were commonly involved in the pheromone glands of two subspecies inhabiting Japan and Finland. Comp. I is a major component (>75%) and the others are minor components (3% - 15%). Their mass spectra, measured by GC/MS, revealed the chemical structures of C21 unsaturated hydrocarbons as follows: 3,6,9-triene for Comp. I, 4,6,9-triene for Comp. II, 1,3,6,9-tetraene for Comp. III, and 2,4,6,9-tetraene for Comp. IV. Comps. I and III are known Type II pheromone compounds, and their retention times coincide with those of the authentic standards with all Z configurations. As a next step, the extract was analyzed by GC/FT-IR to determine the configuration of Comps. II and IV. Their IR spectra showed two characteristic C-h bending absorptions around 990 and 945 cm-1 due to the conjugated dienyl moieties;thus, Z and E configurations were assigned to the double bonds at the 2- and 4-positions, respectively. Their Z double bonds at the 6- and 9-positions are indicated by no absorptions around 970 cm-1, due to the isolated double bonds with E configurations. Finally, the structures of Comps. II and IV were confirmed by synthesis using a double Wittig reaction. The synthetic (4E,6Z,9Z)-4,6,9-triene and (2Z,4E,6Z,9Z)-2,4,6,9-tetraene showed strong EAG activity, and their chemical data coincided well with those of the natural Comps. II and IV, indicating the correctness of the structure determination by GC/FT-IR analysis and its usefulness for Type II pheromone compounds.

本文介绍了根据应力波原理,在小应变条件下估测灌注桩形状方法的理论及使用结果。从桩的振动响应估测桩的形状,必须同时确定波动能量在桩上传播的衰减率以及产生反射波的桩构件的特征比。考察波的衰减特性曲线,以分析桩的振动响应,估测桩的形状。从该法应用于灌注桩的试验结果来看,如果对桩的振动响应,包括桩尖的反应形式仔细地进行分析,桩形估测中桩径误差为10～20％,桩长误差小于10％。

Four ECR ion sources have been operated in National Institute of Radiological Sciences(NIRS). Two ECR ion sources supply various ion species for the heavy Ion Medical Accelerator in Chiba(hIMAC). The 10Ghz NIRS-ECR ion source mainly produces C^(2+) ions for the heavy-ion *** of Si,Ar,Fe,Kr and Xe are usually produced by the 18Ghz NIRS-hEC ion source for physical and biological *** other two compact ECR ion sources with all permanent magnet configuration have been developed for the new generation carbon therapy *** of these,the Kei-source,is a prototype which has been installed to the NIRS-930 cyclotron for axial *** other source,Kei2-source,is a demonstration source and utilized for the new generation *** addition,both Kei sources have been used to study fundamental properties. In this paper,present status of the ion sources and recent developments are reported.
