Childhood malaria in the Niger delta area of Nigeria:mothers/care givers'perception,definition and treatment practices

Objective:The objective of the study was to evaluate mothers/care givers perception of malaria,their treatment practices and the effects on the outcome of ***:Four hundred and sixty children were enrolled and their mothers/care givers *** children were screened for malaria parasitaemia and there after,blood specimens were obtained for biochemical and haematological evaluation from those children who met the criteria and tested positive to *** *** cell volume,electrolytes,urea, creatinine,plasma glucose,and serum bilirubin were ***:A total of 460 children were studied, 233(50.7%) males and 227(49.3%) *** malaria cases were 112(24.3%) and severe malaria 348(75.7%).Those who presented early 106(23.0%) and those who presented late 354(77.0%).Perception and definition of malaria as well as the treatment seeking behaviors vary significantly with the level of education of the mothers and care *** without formal education 68(51.9%) wrongly perceived that the etiology of malaria can only be diagnosed by native doctors compared to those with primary six education 61 (26.5%) and junior secondary education 10(10.1%).Only 43(9.3%) gave the correct dose of chloroquine syrup to their sick children,while 32(7.0%) gave at sub optimal ***:Wrong perception of malaria especially the complicated malaria and wrong treatment practices are major contributory factors to the high mortality and morbidity of malaria in *** is therefore a need for health education to correct the wrong ideas about the cause and treatment practices of malaria as part of malaria control programme.

Nowadays,force sensors play an important role in industrial production,electronic information,medical health,and many other ***-dimensional material-based filed effect transistor(2D-FET)sensors are competitive with nano-level size,lower power consumption,and accurate ***,few of them has the capability of impulse detection which is a path function,expressing the cumulative effect of the force on the particle over a period of *** we fabricated the flexible polymethyl methacrylate(PMMA)gate dielectric MoS_(2)-FET for force and impulse sensor *** systematically investigated the responses of the sensor to constant force and varying forces,and achieved the conversion factors of the drain current signals(I_(ds))to the detected impulse(I).The applied force was detected and recorded by I_(ds)with a low power consumption of~30 *** sensitivity of the device can reach~8000%and the 4×1 sensor array is able to detect and locate the normal force applied on ***,there was almost no performance loss for the device as left in the air for two months.

Background:Immune checkpoint inhibitors play an important role in the treatment of solid tumors, but the currently used immune checkpoint inhibitors targeting programmed cell death-1 (PD-1), programmed cell death ligand-1 (PD-l1), and cytotoxic T-lymphocyte antigen-4 (CTlA-4) show limited clinical efficacy in many breast cancers. B7h3 has been widely reported as an immunosuppressive molecule, but its immunological function in breast cancer patients remains unclear.Methods:We analyzed the expression of B7h3 in breast cancer samples using data from the Cancer Genome Atlas Program (TCGA) and the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) databases. MicroRNAs were selected using the TarBase, miRTarBase, and miRBase databases. The regulatory role of the microRNA hsa-miR-214-3p on B7h3 was investigated through dual-luciferase reporter assays, which identified the specific action sites of interaction. The expression levels of B7h3 and hsa-miR-214-3p in human breast cancer tissues and adjacent normal tissues were quantified using Western blotting and quantitative PCR (qPCR). experiments were performed to observe the effects of modulating the expression of B7h3 or hsa-miR-214-3p on breast cancer cell proliferation and apoptosis. Additionally, the regulatory impact of hsa-miR-214-3p on B7h3 was examined. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ElISA) and flow cytometry were employed to assess the effects of co-cul.ured breast cancer cells and normal human peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) on immune cells and associated cytokines.Results:In breast cancer tissues, the expression level of B7h3 is inversely correlated with that of hsa-miR-214-3p, as well as with the regulatory effects on breast cancercell behavior. hsa-miR-214-3p was found to inhibit breast cancer cell growth by downregulating B7h3. In the photodetachment of atoms or negative ions by a double-pulse laser, the first pulse of the double-pulse laser generates waves and the delayed second pulse may detect them. The phenomenon of the excitation and detection of waves by a double-pulse laser can be used to identify the closed orbits in the system. We demonstrate this phenomenon with a negative hydrogen ion(h^-) by analyzing the total population excited by a double-pulse laser in a timedependent field for different physical parameters. By analyzing the total excited population using a double-pulse laser, we can uncover all the closed orbits existing in the system. We demonstrate that this can be realized by scanning the first pulse position and the time delay between the two pulses.

Nano-indentation of a porous ceramic coating leads to crushing and densification of the coating under the indenter. In this work, finite element simulations of indentation on the porous coating have been carried out to study the effect of the size and dis- tribution of densification on Youngts modulus measured by nano-indentation. Two totally different distribution patterns have been simulated in this work. In the case of gradient densification, the Youngts modulus increased by 8.6% when the densifi- cation has occurred in the maximum influenced area. While the Young^s modulus increased by 2% with a uniformed densification. Examinations of the cross-section of the coatings have suggested that the densification after the indentation is close to the second model. The measured Young＇s modulus could have differed by 2%. The effect of densification on the Young＇s modulus measured by using nano-indentation is strongly dependent on the densification patterns of the porous coating.

The present research brings new insights on the role of admixed corrosion inhibitors in the processes of cement hydration and rebar corrosion. The admixing of NaCl and the corrosion inhibitors in fresh mortar was found to alter the morphology and microstructure of the hardened mortar at the steel-mortar interfacial region. The admixing of the inhibitors increased the risk of carbonation of cement hydrates at the steel-mortar interfacial region, but partially displaced chloride ions. Chloride and the admixed inhibitors facilitated the formation of different cement hydrates and affected chloride binding at the steel-mortar interfacial region. The admixing of all three inhibitors was found to increase the polarization resistance of steel, indicating reduced corrosion rate of the steel over 48-day exposures to salt ponding.

Effects of slag fineness on durability of mortars

In recent years, the usages of by-products and wastes in industry have become more important. The importance of the sustainable development is also of increasing. The utilizations of wastes, as mineral admixture or fine aggregate, reduce the consumption of the natural resources and improve the durability of concrete. In this study, the effect of the fineness on the high temperature and sulphate resistances of concrete mortar specimens, produced with ground granulated blast-furnace slag (GBFS) replacing cement, is investigated. The compressive and flexural strength test results for all series related to durability effects, exposing temperature and solutions, exposure times for these durability effects, slag content and fineness are discussed. Conse- quently, the optimum slag contents are determined for producing the sulphate and high temperature resistant mortars.
