Serum anti-helicobacter pylori antibody titer and its association with gastric nodularity,atrophy,and age:A cross-sectional study

AIM To clarify the role of serum anti-helicobacter pylori(h. pylori) antibody titers in gastric *** In this cross-sectional study, the effect of patients' baseline characteristics and endoscopic findings on their serum antibody titers were assessed. We evaluated consecutive patients who underwent esophagogastroduodenoscopy and their first evaluation for h. pylori infection using a serum antibody test. We excluded patients with a history of eradication therapy. The participants were divided into four groups according to their E-plate serum antibody titer. Patients with serum antibody titers h 70%, 16%, 8.7%, and 5.1% of them in the groups A, B, C, and D, respectively. Patients in group C were older than patients in groups A and B. Gastric open-type atrophy, intestinal metaplasia, enlarged folds, diffuse redness, and duodenal ulcers were associated with a high titer. Regular arrangements of collecting venules, fundic gland polyps, superficial gastritis, and gastroesophageal reflux disease were related to a low titer. Multivariate analysis revealed that nodularity(P = 0.0094), atrophy(P = 0.0076), and age 40-59 years(vs age ≥ 60 years, P = 0.0090) were correlated with a high serum antibody titer in h. pylori-infected patients. Intestinal metaplasia and atrophy were related to age ≥ 60 years in group C and *** Serum antibody titer changes with age, reflects gastric mucosal inflammation, and is useful in predicting the risk of gastric cancer.

AIM： To investigate the hepatoprotective effect of MK615, a Japanese apricot extract, in an animal model, and its clinical therapeutic effect. METhODS： Wistar rats were administered physiologi- cal saline （4 mL/kg） or MK615 solution （4 mL/kg） for 7 d. On the sixth d, acute hepatic injury was induced by administering a single intraperitoneal injection （ip） of D-galactosamine hydrochloride （D-GaIN）（600 mg/kg）. Plasma levels of alanine aminotransferase （ALT） and aspartate aminotransferase （AST） were determined, and liver tissues were used for histopathological analy- sis. Fifty-eight patients with liver disorders [hepatitis C （n = 40）, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease （n = 15）, and autoimmune liver disease （n = 3）] were orally admin- istered commercially available Misatol ME-containing MK615 （13 g/d） daily for 12 wk. Blood and urine were sampled immediately before and 6 wk, 12 wk, and 16 wk after the start of intake to measure various bio- chemical parameters. The percentage change in ALT and AST levels after 12 wk from the pre-intake baseline served as a primary endpoint. RESULTS： D-GaIN effectively induced acute hepatic injury in the rats. At 48 h after the ip injection of D-GaIN, the plasma levels of ALT （475.6 ：t： 191.5 IU/L vs 225.3 ＋ 194.2 IU/L, P 〈 0.05） and AST （1253.9：1：223.4 IU/L vs 621.9 ＋ 478.2 IU/L, P 〈 0.05） in the MK615 group were significantly lower than the control group. Scattered single cell necrosis, loss of hepatocytes, and extensive inflammatory cell infiltration were observed in hepatic tissue samples collected from the control group. however, these findings were less pronounced in the group receiving MK615. At the end of the clinical study, serum ALT and AST levels were significantly de- creased compared with pre-intake baseline levels from 103.5 ：l： 58.8 IU/L to 71.8 ＋ 39.3 IU/L （P 〈 0.05） and from 93.5 ：E 55.6 IU/L to 65.5 ＋ 34.8 IU/L （P 〈 0.05）, respectively. Aim:Many therapeutic means have emerged to treat esophageal *** relating to nutritional status such as body weight maintenance are important to the continuation of these *** this study,we investigated methods to extend the administration of diversified treatments for patients with esophageal cancer,especially regarding measures to suppress body weight loss after ***:We retrospectively evaluated a strategy for preventing postoperative body weight loss which can hinder the continuation of treatment via a reconstruction method aimed at safety and comfort combined with postoperative dietary intake and nutritional support for esophageal cancer ***:The subjects comprised 386 patients who underwent subtotal stomach reconstruction during esophageal cancer surgery performed from January 2008 to January 2021 at Gifu University *** anastomotic leakage rate was 0.5%.By administering oral nutritional supplementation under strict rules using ENSURE®h during the perioperative period,the percentage of body weight loss after 5 years could be limited to 4.78%compared to that before *** assessing early feeling of fullness measured using the EORTC QLQ-OES18 at postoperative months 3,12,24,36,48,and 60 were 1.7±0.3,2.0±0.2,1.2±0.3,1.3±0.2,1.5±0.2,and 1.4±0.1,***:Considering methods to eliminate the factors that prevent continuation of treatment may lead to sustainable treatment against esophageal *** surgical reconstruction and nutritional management will allow maintenance of body weight and good quality of life.

Spontaneous transition of the plasma confinement mode was observed in thehelical-axis heliotron device 'heliotron J' for three different plasma heating schemes, ***-only, NBI-only and the combination of ECh and NBI. The transition seems to occur above a certaincritical density. In addition to the confinement transition, a spontaneous shift of the hittingposition of the divertor plasma flux on the wall was observed. This shift could be related with thechange of the edge field topology caused by non-inductive toroidal currents.

Differential and total cross sections of the γp→π0p and the γd→π0pn reaction were measured for photon energies between 640 and 1 150 MeV. The data have been compared with SAID and MAID model calculations. π0 photoproduction on the deuteron shows a strong suppression of the 2nd resonance which is clearly seen in the γp→π0p reaction.

Purpose: To investigate the characteristics and incidence of a dissociated optic nerve fiber layer (DONFL) appearance in eyes after idiopathic macular hole surgery. Design: Retrospective, nonrandomized, comparative interventional case series. Participants: Ninety-one eyes with idiopathicmacular holes that were closed after 1 pars plana vitrectomywere studied. Among these, 67 eyes had the internal limitingmembrane (ILM) peeled (ILMpeeled), and 24 did not have the ILM peeled (ILM-unpeeled). Methods: All patients received a complete ophthalmologic examination and color fundus photography preoperatively and postoperatively. Twenty ILM-peeled eyes and 9 ILM-unpeeled eyes were also examined by optical coherence tomography (OCT3), microperimetry by scanning laser ophthalmoscope (SLO), and macular sensitivity measurements by humphrey visual field testing more than 4 months after the vitrectomy. Main Outcome Measures: Development of a DONFL on fundus photographs and OCT3, and the functional evaluation of a DONFL by best-corrected visual acuity, SLO-microperimetry, and humphrey visual field testing. Results: In 67 ILM-peeled eyes, a DONFL appearancewas found in 36 eyes (54% ) in color fundus photographs. A DONFL appearance was not detected in any of the 24 ILM-unpeeled eyes. Focal dehiscence of the optic nerve fiber layer was found in all 20 examined eyes by OCT3. No scotoma was found corresponding to the DONFL by SLO microperimetry. The best-corrected visual acuity and macular sensitivity were not significantly different in eyes with and without a DONFL appearance (P > 0.05). A DONFL appearance was not detected in all 20 eyes examined within 1 month after surgery, was detected in all 16 eyes examined between 1 and 3 months, and no new cases were detected after 3 months. The DONFL appearance became more distinct until about 6 months after first detection and seemed not to change subsequently. Anti-hyperglycemic Effect of Single Administered Gardeniae Fructus in Streptozotocin-Induced Diabetic Mice by Improving Insulin Resistance and Enhancing Glucose Uptake in Skeletal Muscle

The mechanisms of Gardeniae Fructus (GF) for anti-hyperglycemic action were demonstrated in streptozotocin (STZ)-diabetic mice. Six hours after single intraperitoneal administration of GF (300 mg/kg) or h2O into 3 hour-fasted STZ-diabetic mice, glucose and insulin tolerances were assessed by intraperitoneal glucose (1.5 g/kg) tolerance test (IPGTT) and intraperitoneal insulin (0.65 U/kg) tolerance test (IPITT), respectively. Effects of GF on insulin signaling pathways in soleus muscle such as glucose uptake, expression of glucose transporter 4 (GLUT4) in the plasma membrane and phosphorylation of Akt (P-Akt) in cytosolic fraction were examined in STZ-diabetic mice. In IPGTT test, GF significantly accelerated clearance of exogenous glucose and its glucose-lowering action was greater than h2O-treated controlin STZ-diabetic mice. GF also promoted an exogenous glucose-increased insulin level in STZ-diabetic mice. In IPITT test, GF decreased glucose level to the greater extent than h2O-treated control in STZ-diabetic mice. Furthermore, GF significantly decreased high hOMA-IR in STZ-diabetic mice from 21.6 ± 2.4 to 12.4 ± 1.9 (mg/dl × μU/ml). These results implied that GF improved insulin resistance in STZ-diabetic mice. GF increased glucose uptake of soleus muscle 1.5 times greater than h2O-treated control in STZ-diabetic mice. GF enlarged insulin (10 nmol/ml)-increased glucose uptake to 1.8 time-greater. Correspondingly, GF increased expression of GLUT4 in the plasma membrane of soleus muscle to 1.4 time-greater, and P-Akt in the cytosolic fraction of soleus muscle to 1.9 time-greater than those in h2O-treated control. In conclusion, the improvement of GF on insulin resistance is associated with the repair of insulin signaling via P-Akt, GLUT4 and glucose uptake pathway in soleus muscle of STZ-diabetic mice.
