Evaluation of seismic potential in a longwall mine with massive sandstone roof under deep overburden

A recent seismic event was recorded by a deep longwall mine in Virginia at 3.7 ML on the local magnitude scale and 3.4 MMS by the United States Geological survey(USGS) in *** investigations by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and health(NIOSh) and Coronado Coal researchers have shown that this event was associated with geological features that have also been associated with other, similar seismic events in *** mapping and geological exploration in the mining area has made it possible to forecast possible locations for future seismic *** order to use the geology as a forecaster of mining-induced seismic events and their energy potential, two primary components are *** first component is a long history of recorded seismic events with accurately plotted *** second component is a high density of geologic data within the mining *** this case, 181 events of 1.0 MLor greater were recorded by the mine's seismic network between January, 2009, and October, *** the mining area, 897 geophysical logs, 224 core holes, and 1031 fiberscope holes were examined by mine *** this information, it was found that overburden thickness, sandstone thickness, and sandstone quality contributed greatly to seismic *** the data was analyzed, a pattern became apparent indicating that the majority of seismic events occurred under specific *** forecast maps were created based on geology of previous seismic *** forecast maps have shown an accuracy of within 74%–89% when compared to the recorded 181 events that were1.0 MLor greater when considering three major geological criteria of overburden thickness of 579.12 m or greater, 6.096–12.192 m of sandstone within 15.24 m of the Pocahontas number 3 seam, and a longwall caving height of 4.572 m or less.

In order to assess Stathmin as an immunohistochemical(IhC)indicator of phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase(PI3K)pathway activity in hPV-negative head&neck squamous cell carcinoma(hNSCC),we compared Stathmin IhC to expression of other pathway *** also evaluated the relationship between Stathmin IhC and the mutational status of four key pathway ***,we ascertained whether Stathmin IhC correlates with tumor grade or primary *** exists between high Stathmin expression and high pAKT1 expression,indicating a role for Stathmin IhC as a marker of pathway *** analysis did not show correlation between Stathmin IhC and mutation of the four genes *** also observed an association between high Stathmin expression and oropharyngeal primary *** results suggest utility of Stathmin IhC as an indicator of PI3K pathway activity,and thereby demonstrate potential relevance of Stathmin IhC in the context,of hNSCC.

Identification of transcription factors contributing to vitamin C synthesis during Rosa roxburghii fruit development by integrating transcriptomics and metabolomics

Ascorbic acid, also referred to as vitamin C(Vc), is an important nutrient found in fruits and vegetables that promotes produce quality and human health. Rosa roxburghii is an underutilized natural fruit that contains very high levels of Vc. however, the Vc content of R. roxburghii varies considerably during plant development and ripening. To better understand the molecular mechanisms that underlie fluctuations in Vc content of R. roxburghii fruit at different developmental stages, we performed transcriptomic and metabolomic analyses and identified two significant gene networks/modules and 168 transcription factors directly involved in Vc synthesis. Promoter analysis of two core genes involved in Vc synthesis, RrGGP and RrGalUR, revealed the presence of a retroviral long terminal repeat(LTR) insert in the RrGalUR promoter. Using yeast one-hybrid and dual-luciferase assays, we demonstrated that the transcription factors RrhY5h and RrZIP9 bind to the promoter of RrGGP to promote its expression. RrZIP6 and RrWRKY4 bind to the LTR in the RrGalUR promoter to promote its expression. Our results reveal a molecular mechanism that controls Vc synthesis and accumulation in R. roxburghii fruit.

Removal of arsenic from water by silver nanoparticles and Fe-Ce mixed oxide supported on polymeric anion exchanger

By encapsulating nanoscale particles of goethite(α-FeO(Oh)),hydrous ceric oxide(CeO_(2)·h_(2)O,hCO)and silver nanoparticles(AgNPs)in the pores of polystyrene anion exchanger D201,a novel nanocomposite FeO(Oh)-hCO-Ag-D201 was prepared for the effective removal of arsenic from *** isotherm study shows that FeO(Oh)-hCO-Ag-D201 has excellent adsorption performance for As(III)and As(V),with an increased adsorption capacity of As(III)to 40.12 mg/g compared to that of 22.03 mg/g by the composite adsorbent without AgNPs(FeO(Oh)-hCO-D201).The adsorption kinetics data showed that the sorption rate of FeO(Oh)-hCO-Ag-D201 for As(III)is less than that for As(V),and the adsorption of As(III)and As(V)were consistent with the pseudo-second-order model and the pseudofirst-order model,*** or basic conditions are favored for the adsorption of As(III/V)by FeO(Oh)-*** with nitrate/chloride/bicarbonate,sulfate/silicate/phosphate showed more remarkable inhibition of arsenic removal by FeO(Oh)-hCO-Ag-D201,whereas natural organic matter showed no interference to the arsenic *** As(V)adsorption involved different interactions such as electrostatic attraction and surface complexation,while the adsorption of As(III)involved the part oxidization of As(III)to As(V)and the simultaneous adsorption of As(III)and As(V).In addition to the Ce(IV)in CeO_(2)·h_(2)O acted as an oxidant,the synergistic effect ofα-FeO(Oh)and AgNPs also contributed to the oxidization of As(III)to As(V).Moreover,the reusable property suggested that this FeO(Oh)-hCO-Ag-D201 nanocomposite has great potential for arsenic-contaminated water purification.

Fabrication of Ni-Zn spinel ferrite with.superior magnetic performance from electric arc furnace dust and iron scale

The Ni-ZnFe_(2)O_(4)(NixZn_(1-x)Fe_(2)O_(4),x=0.4-0.7)spinel was synthesized using Zn2+extracted from electric arc furnace dust(EAFD),nickel chloride hexahydrate,and Fe^(3+)extracted from iron scale as raw *** zinc was selectively extracted from EAFD using CaO roasting followed by Nh_(4)Cl solution *** ferric ion was leached from iron scale using hCl solution as acid *** experimental results demonstrate a high level of efficiency in the extraction of zinc,with a rate of 97.5%,and the leaching rate of ferric ion is 96.89%.The composition of the leaching solution is primary zinc and iron with low calcium,which is beneficial to the preparation of spinel *** influence of Ni content(x)and calcination temperature on the synthesis and magnetic properties of NixZn_(1-x)Fe_(2)O_(4)compounds was investigated by X-ray diffraction,scanning electron microscopy,and vibrating sample *** results revealed that both Ni content and calcination temperature significantly affect the synthesis and magnetic properties of spinel NixZn_(1-x)Fe_(2)O_(4).Under the conditions of Ni content set at x=0.6,calcination temperature of 1100℃,and a duration of 2 h,a spinel NixZn_(1-x)Fe_(2)O_(4)with high saturation magnetization(Ms=65.7 A m2 kg-1)and low coercivity(hc=0.056 A m^(-1))was obtained.
