Peripheral nerve injuries induce a severe motor and sensory deficit. since the availability of autologous nerve transplants for nerve repair is very limited, alternative treatment strategies are sought, including the use of tubular nerve guidance conduits(tnGCs). however, the use of tnGCs results in poor functional recovery and central necrosis of the regenerating tissue, which limits their application to short nerve lesion defects(typically shorter than 3 cm). Given the importance of vascularization in nerve regeneration, we hypothesized that enabling the growth of blood vessels from the surrounding tissue into the regenerating nerve within the tnGC would help eliminate necrotic processes and lead to improved regeneration. In this study, we reported the application of macroscopic holes into the tubular walls of silk-based tnGCs and compared the various features of these improved silk^(+) tnGCs with the tubes without holes(silk^(–) tnGCs) and autologous nerve transplants in an 8-mm sciatic nerve defect in rats. Using a combination of micro-computed tomography and histological analyses, we were able to prove that the use of silk^(+) tnGCs induced the growth of blood vessels from the adjacent tissue to the intraluminal neovascular formation. A significantly higher number of blood vessels in the silk^(+) group was found compared with autologous nerve transplants and silk^(–), accompanied by improved axon regeneration at the distal coaptation point compared with the silk^(–) tnGCs at 7 weeks postoperatively. In the 15-mm(critical size) sciatic nerve defect model, we again observed a distinct ingrowth of blood vessels through the tubular walls of silk^(+) tnGCs, but without improved functional recovery at 12 weeks postoperatively. Our data proves that macroporous tnGCs increase the vascular supply of regenerating nerves and facilitate improved axonal regeneration in a short-defect model but not in a critical-size defect model. There is a need to develop interventions to slow or reverse the degeneration of dopamine neurons in Parkinson’s disease after *** that preclinical and clinical studies suggest benefits of dietary n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids,such as docosahexaenoic acid,and exercise in Parkinson’s disease,we investigated whether both could synergistically interact to induce recovery of the dopaminergic ***,mice received a unilateral stereotactic injection of 6-hydroxydopamine into the striatum to establish an animal model of nigrostriatal *** weeks after lesion,animals were fed a docosahexaenoic acid-enriched or a control diet for the next 8 *** this period,the animals had access to a running wheel,which they could use or *** acid treatment,voluntary exercise,or the combination of both had no effect on(i)distance traveled in the open field test,(ii)the percentage of contraversive rotations in the apomorphine-induction test or(iii)the number of tyrosine-hydroxylase-positive cells in the substantia nigra pars ***,the docosahexaenoic acid diet increased the number of tyrosine-hydroxylase-positive terminals and induced a rise in dopamine concentrations in the lesioned *** to docosahexaenoic acid treatment or exercise alone,the combination of docosahexaenoic acid and exercise(i)improved forelimb balance in the stepping test,(ii)decreased the striatal DOPAC/dopamine ratio and(iii)led to increased dopamine transporter levels in the lesioned *** present results suggest that the combination of exercise and docosahexaenoic acid may act synergistically in the striatum of mice with a unilateral lesion of the dopaminergic system and provide support for clinical trials combining nutrition and physical exercise in the treatment of Parkinson’s disease.

Injury of the periodontium followed by inflammatory response often leads to mot resorption. Resorption is accomplished by osteoclasts and their generation may depend on an interaction with the cells in direct contact with the root, the cementoblasts. Our study aimed to investigate the role of human cementoblasts in the formation of osteoclasts and the effect of interleukin （IL）- 1β hereupon. Extracted teeth from healthy volunteers were subjected to sequential digestion by type I collagenase and trypsin. The effect of enzymatic digestion on the presence of cells on the root surface was analyzed by histology. Gene expression of primary human cementoblasts （phCB） was compared with a human cementoblast cell line （hCEM）. The phCBs were analyzed for their expression of IL-1 receptors as well as of receptor activator of nuclear factor kappa-B ligand （RAnKL） and osteoprotegerin （OPG）. In a co-culture system consisting of osteoclast precursors （blood monocytes） and phCBs, the formation of osteoclasts and their resorptive activity was assessed by osteo-assay and ivory slices. The cells obtained after a 120 min enzyme digestion expressed the highest level of bone sialoprotein, similar to that of hCEM. This fraction of isolated cells also shared a similar expression pattern of IL-1 receptors （ILl-R1 and ILl-R2）. Treatment with IL-11~ potently upregulated RAnKL expression but not of OPG. phCBs were shown to induce the formation of functional osteoclasts. This capacity was significantly stimulated by pretreating the phCBs with IL-1β prior to their co-culture with human blood monocytes. Our study demonstrated that cementoblasts have the capacity to induce osteoclastogenesis, a capacity strongly promoted by IL-1β. These results may explain why osteoclasts can be formed next to the root of teeth.

A laboratory study of the turbulence front initiated by the Rayleigh-Taylor instabilities was conducted by overturning a two-layer stratified flow in a tank. Dye was introduced to the upper layer and the concentration of the dye was determined using a video imaging method. The mass center of the heavier upper layer moved continuously to a lower elevation because of the intrusion of the heavier fluid into the lower layer and the lighter fluid into the upper layer. The downward movement of the mass center was accurately determined from the dye concentration profile. It is concluded that the initial advancement of the mass center follows a quadratic relation with time and the final advancement obeys a linear relation with time.

synthesis and characterization of CnT/Ce-TiO_2 nanocomposite for phenol degradation

An innovative photocatalyst, Carbon nanotube （CnT） supported Ce-TiO2 nanocomposite was successfully synthesized via modi-fied sol gel method and investigated in a batch reactor for abolition of phenol under UV light spectrum. characterization of catalyst micro-structure and internal properties were done by means of X-ray diffraction （XRD）, Brunauer-Emmett-Teller （BET）, scanning electron micros-copy （sEM）, transmission electron microscopy （TEM） and UV-vis diffuse reflectance spectra （DRs）. Ce doping can inhibit phase transfor-mation from anatase to rutile and eliminate the recombination of electron-hole pairs in the catalyst. The presence of CnT in TiO2 composite can both increase the photoactivity under UV and ch.nge surface properties to achieve sensitivity to visible light. The optimum mass ratio of CnT support and cerium （Ce） dopant in TiO2 was the prominent factor to harvest CnT/Ce-TiO2 photocatalyst nanocomposite. The results demonstrated that optimum mass ratio of CnT：TiO2：Ce was 0.02：1.0：0.06, which resulted in the great performance of the photocatalyst to de-grade about 94% of phenol in a 50 mg/L solution in only 3 h. In this paper, dissimilar role of CnT support and Ce dopant in the TiO2 photo-catalysis of phenol was also discussed.

Experimental study on microstructural and corrosion behaviors of friction stir processed steel with CoCrFeCuTi hEA reinforcement and effect of annealing

The ability to perform against extreme corrosion environments in stainless steel depreciates under challenging conditions in industrial applications. This can be resolved by employing surface modification techniques to modify the surface with the required characteristics. The present study investigates the outcomes of friction stir processing of ss304 with CoCrFeCuTi high entropy alloy(hEA) as reinforcement and the property enhancements post-annealing. The synthesized CoCrFeCuTi hEA exhibited irregular fragments with 17 μm mean particle size and body centred cubic(BCC) phase. The microstructure of the processed surface revealed ultra-refined grains with a uniform distribution of hEA filler. The microstructures of the samples annealed at 400℃, 550℃, 700℃ and 850℃ for 2 h also showed significant grain growth and grain refinements. The processed sample with hEA reinforcement annealed at 700℃ exhibited enhanced microhardness and tensile strength by 63% and 0.88 times than that of the processed sample with hEA pre-annealing. The subsequent electrochemical corrosion test displayed better corrosion resistance for the hEA-processed and annealed sample. hot corrosion tests at 900℃ showcased excellent resistance for the hEA processed and annealed samples by 14.92%, 12.75%, and 14.83% against the samples pre-annealed under three different salt mixtures, and the corroded surface was analyzed.
