Environmental effects of mariculture in China:An overall study of nitrogen and phosphorus loads

Eutrophication in coastal area has become more and more serious and mariculture potential is a main *** there are some quantitative research on nutrient loads in national and global perspective,the calculation method problems make the results *** this paper,the farming activities are divided into fed culture types(include cage culture and pond culture)and extractive culture types(***,filter-feeding shellfish culture).Based on the annual yield of China in 2019 and feed coefficient of fed culture types and carbon(C),nitrogen(N),and phosphorus(P)content of extractive culture types,the annual nutrient loads was *** results showed that to coastal region of China(1)annual nutrient released by fed culture types were about58451 t of N,9081 t of P,and annual nutrient removed by harvest of extractive culture types were 109245 t of N,11980 t of P and 1.86×10^(6)t of ***,the net amount of nutrient removed annually by mariculture industry were 50794 t of N and 2901 t of P.(2)The nutrient released from mariculture industry influenced nutrient *** farming and seaweed farming had the potential of increasing the molar concentration ratio of N and P(N:P),while cage farming and bivalve farming decreased the N:P.(3)Due to different mariculture types and layouts in the coastal regions in China,N and P loading were regional *** the coastal regions in China,net release of nutrient from mariculture occurred only in hainan and Guangxi regions,while in the other regions,N and P were completely removed by *** suggest decrease the amount of fed culture types and increase the amount of integrated culture with extractive culture *** study will help to adjust mariculture structure and layout at the national level to reduce the environmental impact.

In the past few decades,significant progress in block copolymer self-assembly has been achieved in many fields,and with the development of nanoscience and nanotechnology,more and more complex situations need block copolymer self-assembly based nanoplatforms having more complex structures for specific multimodal or multiplexed *** the combination of emulsification and self-assembly of the block copolymer,different materials with exotic architectures and functions could be combined within an entity,such as controlled vesicles,Janus particles,and composite particles which are more like ideal *** designs can show their different desired properties depending upon the application situation,including molecular delivery,surfactants,and multicolor *** review will provide a complete summary of the optimization and the synthesis method for the recently designed emulsion confined block copolymer assemblies,and also the challenges and limitations this method faces,and the potential solutions in this field.

While most types of malignancies remain recalcitrant to treatment, application of natural products or their analogs in daily life has offered some hopes as an effective prophylaxis against cancer onset and progression in the past decades. Emerging evidence supports a link between garlic consumption and decreased cancer incidence. Notably, aged garlic extract(AGE) exhibits stronger anti-cancer activities than that of fresh garlic, by virtue of enrichment of several AGE-specific organosulfur compounds, including S-allylmercaptocysteine(SAMC). In this review, we summarize the up-to-date mechanistic pathways associated with the anti-proliferative, anti-metastatic and pro-apoptotic effects of SAMC in various cancer models. Based upon the proven safety and improved understanding on its anti-neoplastic properties, SAMC has gained recognition as a promising daily food supplement for cancer prevention or management.

Discoveries in geckos locomotion have advanced the bio-inspired ***,the gecko-inspired robots still lag behind animals in attachments and maneuvers due to our failure to understand and implement gecko bionics ***,we studied the toe deployments that facilitate the upside-down motion of geckos by focusing on the directions and contact area of toes to offer inspirations for the design and control of feet of legged robots that must operate on inverted *** of clustering toes,geckos align toes in varying *** distribute adhesion to toes by controlling the magnitude of contact area,with one square millimeter setae generating〜153.8 mN shear force and〜39.5 mN attractive force on *** feet deploy toes in a〜190°span that centers on〜16°from the motion *** distribute uniformly and contribute ***,hind feet deploy toes in a〜220°span centering around^90°relative to the fore-aft *** last two toes point toward the rear and contribute most in hind feet while the first two toes adhere *** deployments involving distributed control among toes not only provide insight into biological adhesion but will also deliver useful information to the next generation of climbing robotics.

A floating breakwater(FB)has extensive potential applications in the fields of coastal,offshore,and ocean engineering owing to its advantages such as eco-friendliness,low cost,easy and rapid construction,and quick dismantling and *** FB composed of twin pontoons and multi-porous vertical plates is proposed to improve the wave attenuation *** wave attenuation performance is investigated for different FB structures and vertical plate types under different incident wave heights and periods using 2D wave physical model tests in a wave *** results demonstrate that the proposed FB has a better performance than that of the conventional single pontoon-type *** reduces the wave transmission due to its enhanced wave reflection and energy *** wave transmission coefficient of the proposed FB decreases with an increase in the number of layers and relative draft depth of the vertical ***,a further decrease in the wave transmission coefficient is not observed when the number of porous vertical plates is increased from 4 to 5 *** equation has been derived to predict the wave transmission of the proposed FB based on the experimental results.

Analysis of spatial patterns to describe the spatial correlation between a tree location and marks(i.e.,structural variables),can reveal stand history,population dynamics,competition and ***,most studies of spatial patterns have concentrated on tree location and tree sizes rather than on crown asymmetry especially with direct analysis among marks characterizing facilitation and competition among of trees,and thus cannot reveal the cause of the distributions of tree locations and quantitative *** explore the spatial correlation among quantitative and vectorial marks and their implication on population dynamics,we extracted vertical and horizontal marks(tree height and crown projection area)characterizing tree size,and a vectorial mark(crown displacement vector characterizing the crown asymmetry)using an airborne laser scanning point cloud obtained from two forest stands in Oxfordshire,*** and vectorially marked spatial patterns were developed,with corresponding null models established for a significance *** analyzed eight types of univariate and bivariate spatial patterns,after first proposing four *** accuracy of the pattern analysis based on an algorithm-segmented point cloud was compared with that of a truly segmented point *** algorithm-segmented point cloud managed to detect 70–86%of patterns *** eight types of spatial patterns analyzed the spatial distribution of trees,the spatial correlation between tree size and facilitated or competitive interactions of sycamore and other *** four types of univariate patterns jointly showed that,at smaller scales,the trees tend to be clustered,and taller,with larger crowns due to the detected facilitations among trees in the study *** four types of bivariate patterns found that at smaller scales there are taller trees and more facilitation among sycamore and other species,while crown size is mostly homogeneous across *** results indicate that

Spatial-temporal changes and driving factors of eco-environmental quality in the Three-North region of China

Eco-environmental quality is a measure of the suitability of the ecological environment for human survival and socioeconomic *** the spatial-temporal distribution and variation trend of eco-environmental quality is essential for environmental protection and ecological *** remote sensing ecological index(RSEI)can quickly and objectively quantify eco-environmental quality and has been extensively utilized in regional ecological environment *** this paper,Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer(MODIS)images during the growing period(July-September)from 2000 to 2020 were obtained from the Google Earth Engine(GEE)platform to calculate the RSEI in the three northern regions of China(the Three-North region).The Theil-Sen median trend method combined with the Mann-Kendall test was used to analyze the spatial-temporal variation trend of eco-environmental quality,and the hurst exponent and the Theil-Sen median trend were superimposed to predict the future evolution trend of eco-environmental *** addition,ten variables from two categories of natural and anthropogenic factors were analyzed to determine the drivers of the spatial differentiation of eco-environmental quality by the geographical *** results showed that from 2000 to 2020,the RSEI in the Three-North region exhibited obvious regional characteristics:the RSEI values in Northwest China were generally between 0.2 and 0.4;the RSEI values in North China gradually increased from north to south,ranging from 0.2 to 0.8;and the RSEI values in Northeast China were mostly above *** average RSEI value in the Three-North region increased at an average growth rate of 0.0016/a,showing the spatial distribution characteristics of overall improvement and local degradation in eco-environmental quality,of which the areas with improved,basically stable and degraded eco-environmental quality accounted for 65.39%,26.82%and 7.79%of the total study area,*** hurst

Parkinson’s disease is a progressive neurodegenerative disease characterized by motor deficits,dopaminergic neuron loss,and brain accumulation ofα-synuclein aggregates called lewy *** in protein degradation pathways,such as autophagy,has been demonstrated in neurons as a critical mechanism for eliminating protein aggregates in Parkinson’s ***,it is less well understood how protein aggregates are eliminated in glia,the other cell type in the *** the present study,we show that autophagy-related gene 9(Atg9),the only transmembrane protein in the autophagy machinery,is highly expressed in Drosophila glia from adult *** from immunostaining and live cell imaging analysis reveal that a portion of Atg9 localizes to the trans-Golgi network,autophagosomes,and lysosomes in ***9 is persistently in contact with these *** glial atg9 reduces the number of omegasomes and autophagosomes,and impairs autophagic substrate *** suggests that glial Atg9 participates in the early steps of autophagy,and hence the control of autophagic ***,loss of glial atg9 induces parkinsonian symptoms in Drosophila including progressive loss of dopaminergic neurons,locomotion deficits,and glial *** findings identify a functional role of Atg9 in glial autophagy and establish a potential link between glial autophagy and Parkinson’s *** results may provide new insights on the underlying mechanism of Parkinson’s disease.
