Short-term cold storage of blowfly Lucilia sericata embryos

The developmental rate under low temperatures and cold tolerance were investigated in embryos of the blowfly Lucilia sericata. The larvae of this species are now widely used in maggot debridement therapy. Embryonic development was dependent on temperature, with a lower developmental threshold of 9.0℃. The duration of the egg stage at a rearing temperature of 25℃was 14 h, and a low temperature of 12.5℃ successfully prolonged this period to 66 h. Embryonic stages differed markedly in their cold tolerance; young embryos were less tolerant to cold than old ones. Late embryonic stages are suitable for cold storage at 5℃ and the storage for 72 h did not decrease the hatching rate by more than 50%. In the mass-rearing process required for maggot debridement therapy, either of these two simple protocols would be beneficial.

The deep understanding about the electrochemical behavior of the nanostructured electrode in electrolytes provides crucial insights for the rational design of electrode for sodium(Na)-ion storage system(NIS).here,we report redox charge transfer kinetics and reversibility of VO_(2)(B) nanorod electrodes in both aqueous and organic electrolytes for *** assynthesized VO_(2)(B) nanorods show the reversible redox reaction with the h.g.er specific and rate capacitances at h.g. current density in aqueous electrolytes than in organic ***-dependent impedance measurements demonstrate the more facile interfacial charge transfer of Na ions into VO_(2)(B) nanorods in aqueous *** reversible evolution in oxidation state and chemical composition of VO_(2)(B) nanorods is observed in aqueous electrolytes,as confirmed by ex situ XRD and ex situ X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy *** by the facile and reversible pseudocapacitive feature,the electrochemical performances of VO_(2)(B) nanorods are further improved by constructing the hierarchical structure of the reduced graphene oxide-VO_(2) composite for aqueous Na+ion storage.

Recently, the h.g.-tech industry has become a key industry for economic development in many countries. however, vibration sensitive equipment located in these industrial buildings is vulnerable during earthquakes, which may cause h.g. economic loss. In this study, an innovative isolator for safeguarding the vibration sensitive equipment, namely, the static dynamics interchangeable^all pendulum system （SDI-BPS） is proposed and investigated to examine its protective capability for the vibration sensitive equipment during earthquakes through a series of tri-directional shaking table tests. The experimental results illustrate that the SDI-BPS isolator can provide significant damping to rolling types of base isolation systems for reducing the bearing displacement and size, and avoid the stress concentration, which can cause damage or scratches on the rolling surface of the isolator, to prolong its life span of service. The SDI-BPS isolator also provides excellent capability in protecting the vibration sensitive equipment and exhibits a stable behavior under long terms of service loadings and earthquakes.

Shell-and-tube vaporizers are the most commonly used and dominated types of vaporizers in liquefied natural gas （LNg） realm. Due to efficient performance, shell-side flow in this type of vaporizers has received considerable attention and has been investigated extensively. however, the detailed flow structure in the shell needs to be determined for reliable and effective design. Therefore, the objective of this study was to clarify the flow structure in shell by particle image velocimetry （PIV）. Experiments were conducted using two types of model; 15% baffle cut having inlet and outlet positions !n the direction of 90° to the cut and 30% baffle cut having inlet and outlet positions in the direction of 180° to the cut. Each test section is 169 mm in inner diameter and 344.6 mm in length. The flow features were characterized in different baffle cuts with regards to the velocity vector field and velocity distribution. The results show that the flow characteristics of 15% baffle cut type vaporizer are comparable to those of 30% baffle cut type vaporizer.

The effect of potassium pyrophosphate in the electrolyte on plasma electrolytic oxidation(PEO) process for AZ91 Mg alloy was *** morphologies and chemical compositions of the coating layer on the AZ91 Mg alloy were evaluated and corrosion resistance was also estimated by potentiodynamic polarization *** coating layer on AZ91 Mg alloy coated from the Bath 2 containing 0.03 mol/L of potassium pyrophosphate for 360 s exhibited considerably dense structure and contained 11%-18%(mass fraction) of *** h.g.er content of phosphorous of coating layer coated from Bath 2 could be detected at the bottom of oxide layer,which strongly implied that the phosphorous ion might be concentrated at the barrier *** potential of coating layer of AZ91 Mg alloy increased and corrosion current density decreased with increasing the concentration of potassium *** polarization resistance(Rp) of coating layer of AZ91 Mg alloy coated from Bath 2 was 4.65×107 Ω/cm2,which was h.g.er than that(Rp=3.56×104 Ω/cm2) of the sample coated from electrolyte without potassium *** coating layer coated from Bath 2 containing 0.03 mol/L potassium pyrophosphate exhibited the best corrosion resistance.

Ultrafast optical control of ferroelectricity using intense terahertz fields has attracted significant *** we show that the nonlinear interactions between two optical phonons in SnTe,a two-dimensional in-plane ferroelectric material,enables a dynamical amplification of the electric polarization within subpicoseconds time *** first-principles time-dependent simulations show that the infrared-active out-of-plane phonon mode,pumped to nonlinear regimes,spontaneously generates in-plane motions,leading to rectified oscillations in the in-plane electric *** suggest that this dynamical control of ferroelectric material,by nonlinear phonon excitation,can be utilized to achieve ultrafast control of the photovoltaic or other nonlinear optical responses.

It has been established that cancer can be promoted and exacerbated by *** carcinoma(hCC) is the fifth most common cancer worldwide,and its long-term prognosis remains *** hCC is a complex and heterogeneous tumor with several genomic mutations,it usually develops in the context of chronic liver damage and inflammation,suggesting that understanding the mechanism(s) of inflammation-mediated hepatocarcinogenesis is essential for the treatment and prevention of *** liver damage induces a persistent cycle of necroinflammation and hepatocyte regeneration,resulting in genetic mutations in hepatocytes and expansion of initiated cells,eventually leading to hCC ***,several inflammation-and stress-related signaling pathways have been identified as key players in these processes,which include the nuclear factor B,signal transducer and activator of transcription,and stress-activated mitogen-activated protein kinase *** these pathways may suggest potential therapeutic targets,they have a wide range of functions and complex crosstalk occurs among *** review focuses on recent advances in our understanding of the roles of these signaling pathways in hepatocarcinogenesis.

We investigate the Painleve integrabiiity of nonautonomous nonlinear Schr6dinger （NLS） equations with both space-and time-dependent dispersion, nonlinearity, and external potentials. The Painleve analysis is carried out without using the Kruskal＇s simplification, which results in more generalized form of inhomogeneous equations. The obtained equations are shown to be reducible to the standard NLS equation by using a point transformation. We also construct the corresponding Lax pair and carry out its Kundu-type reduction to the standard Lax pair. Special cases of equations from choosing limited form of coefficients coincide with the equations from the previous Painleve analyses and/or become unknown new equations.

The bounds for the eigenvalues of the stiffness matrices in the finite element discretization corresponding to Lu := - u' with zero boundary conditions by quadratic hierarchical basis are shown explicitly. The condition number of the resulting system behaves like O(1/h) where h is the mesh size. We also analyze a main diagonal preconditioner of the stiffness matrix which reduces the condition number of the preconditioned system to O(1).
