An event mixing technique for Bose-Einstein correlations of two pions in photoproduction around 1 GeV

We have developed an event mixing technique to observe Bose-Einstein correlations （BEC） between two identical neutral pions produced in photo-induced reactions in the non-perturbative QCD energy region. It is found that the missing-mass consistency cut and the pion-energy cut are essential for the event mixing method to effectively extract BEC observables. A Monte Carlo （MC） simulation is used to validate these constraints and confirms the efficiency of this method. Our work paves the way for similar BEC studies at lower energies where the multiplicity of emitted bosons is limited.

Production of a high-Mach-Number Plasma Flow for an Advanced Plasma Space Thruster

A higher specific impulse and a larger thrust are required for a mannedinterplanetary space thruster. Prior to a realization of a fusion-plasma thruster, amagneto-plasma-dynamic arcjet (MPDA) powered by a fission reactor is one of the promising candidatesfor a manned Mars space thruster. The MPDA plasma is accelerated axially by a self-induced j x Bforce. Thrust performance of the MPDA is expected to increase by applying a magnetic nozzle insteadof a solid nozzle. In order to get a much higher thruster performance, two methods have beeninvestigated in the hITOP device, Tohoku University. One is to use a magnetic Laval nozzle in thevicinity of the MPDA muzzle for converting the high ion thermal energy to the axial flow energy. Theother is to heat ions by use of an ICRF antenna in the divergent magnetic nozzle. It is found thatby use of a small-sized Laval-type magnetic nozzle, the subsonic flow near the muzzle is convertedto be supersonic through the magnetic Laval nozzle. A fast-flowing plasma is successfully heated byuse of an ICRF antenna in the magnetic beach configuration.

Density matrix method and ultrafast processes

When femtosecond （fs） timeresolved experiments are used to study ultrafast processes, quantum beat phenomena are often observed. In this paper, to analyze the fs timeresolved spectra, we will present the density matrix method, a powerful theoretical technique, which describes the dynamics of population and coherence of the system. how to employ it to study the pumpprobe experiments and fs ultrafast processes is described. The transition of pyrazine is used as an example to demonstrate the application of the density matrix method. Recently, Suzuki＇s group have employed the 22 fs time resolution laser to study the dynamics of the state of pyrazine. In this case, conical intersection is commonly believed to play an important role in this nonadiabatic process. how to treat the effect of conical intersection on nonadiabatic processes and fs timeresolved spectra is presented. Another important ultrafast process, vibrational relaxation, which takes place in subps and ps range and has never been carefully studied, is treated in this paper. The vibrational relaxation in water dimer is chosen to demonstrate the calculation. It should be noted that the vibrational relaxation of （h20）2 has not been experimentally studied but it can be accomplished by the pump-probe experiments.
