Phytochemical, antioxidant and hepatoprotective effects of different fractions of Moringa oleifera leaves methanol extract against liver injury in animal model

Objective: To evaluate the potential antioxidant and hepatoprotective effects of n-hexane, dichloromethane(DCM), ethyl acetate(EtOAc), n-butanol and aqueous fractions of Moringa oleifera(M. oleifera) leaves methanol extract against carbon tetrachloride(CCl_4)-induced liver injury in rats. Methods: These fractions were prepared from the M. oleifera leaves methanol extract by solubilization in water and partitioning in n-hexane, EtOAc, DCM and n-butanol. Their phyto-components were identified by GC-MS analysis. The in vitro antioxidant effect of these fractions was carried out by assessment of 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl scavenging activity. A total of 40 Sprague Dawley rats were allocated into 8 equal groups: group 1 given olive oil(1 m L/kg ***.), group 2 injected with CCl_4, group 3 to 7 administered with n-hexane, DCM, EtOAc, n-butanol and aqueous fractions, respectively after CCl_4, group 8 administered with silymarin after CCl_4. The activities of aspartate aminotransferase, alanine aminotransferase, and the levels of total cholesterol, triglycerides, glucose, total proteins and albumin in serum were determined spectrophotometrically. Glutathione reduced, lipid peroxide by-products levels, glutathione-s-transferase and catalase enzyme activities in the liver homogenate were determined by spectrophotometer. Liver specimens were also examined for histopathological alterations under light microscope. Results: The GCMS analysis of different fractions of the M. oleifera leaves methanol extract revealed that n-hexane, DCM, EtOAc, n-butanol, and aqueous fractions contained 17, 22, 23, 19 and 32 compounds, respectively. The percent and the molecular structure of each component in each fraction were identified. The n-butanol and EtOAc fractions exhibited the strongest in vitro antioxidant activity against 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl. Background: Inflammatory pseudotumor (IPT) also known as inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor (IMT) or plasma cell granuloma (PCG) has been rarely reported in the skin. Methods: We describe five patients with cutaneous IPT and present clinicopathologic features along with detailed immunohistochemical analysis including anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK)-1. Results: The patients age ranged from 15 to 89 years with a median of 56 years. All patients presented with solitary, firm, papules and nodules. There was no evidence of constitutional symptoms, local recurrence, or lymph node involvement. histopathological examination revealed two distinct patterns; one type (n = 3) displayed dense, lymphoplasmacytoid infiltrates containing lymphoplasmacytoid cells and plasma cells with occasional germinal centers and hyalinized collagen bundles but was devoid of a myofibroblastic component. It showed features of tumors previously described as cutaneous PCG. Although an infectious etiology, including Borrelia burgdorferi-specific DNA, could not be demonstrated, we observed many features that overlapped with those of fibrous nodules of acrodermatitis chronica atrophicans. The other pattern (n = 2) revealed spindled myofibroblasts focally arranged in a fascicular pattern, an admixed lymphoplasmacytoid infiltrate set in a background of thickened collagen bundles, findings akin to the conventional type of EMT. The cases with a myofibroblastic component (n = 2) did not show any evidence of ALK-1 reactivity. Conclusions: We believe that the term cutaneous IPT subsumes lesions of diverse etiology. Tumors with detectable myofibroblasts represent true cases of IMT. Cutaneous PCG is a discrete disorder biologically distinct from conventional IMT representing a reaction pattern that is also found in disorders, such as spirochete-induced fibroid nodules and localized chronic fibrosing vasculitis.

Constructing bimodal grain structure is a promising approach to achieve the high strength-ductility syn-ergy in Mg *** of bimodal grain is closely related to the dynamic and/or static recrystal-lization process,which has not been fully understood in the typical Mg-RE based *** this work,it is claimed for the first time that the minor Ce addition(∼0.3 wt%)into Mg matrix significantly pro-motes the pyramidaland non-basaldislocations at the early stage of extrusion,which con-sequently enhances the formation of sub-grain boundaries via the movement and recovery of pyramidal II-type*** this stage,fine sub-grain lamellae are widely observed predominantly due to the low migration rate of sub-grain boundary caused by the limited mobility of*** the later stage,the sub-grains continuously transform into dynamic recrystallized(DRXed)grains that have10¯10Taylor axis and also strong fiber texture,indicating substantial activation of pyramidal II-type*** low mobility ofdislocations,accompanied with the solute drag from grain boundary(GB)segregation and pinning from nano-phases,cause a sluggish DRX process and thus a bimodal microstructure with ultra-fined DRXed grains,∼0.51μ*** resultant texture hardening and grain refinement hardening effects,originated from bimodal microstructure,result in a yield strength of∼352 MPa,which is exceptional in Mg-Ce dilute *** work clarifies the critical role of Ce addition in tuning recrystallization behavior and mechanical property of magnesium,and can also shed light on designing the other high-performance Mg alloys.

Exciton-polariton condensation is regarded as a spontaneous macroscopic quantum phenomenon with phase ordering and collective *** engineering artificial annular potential landscapes in halide perovskite semiconductor microcavities,we experimentally and theoretically demonstrate the room-temperature spontaneous formation of a coherent superposition of exciton-polariton orbital states with symmetric petal-shaped patterns in real space,resulting from symmetry breaking due to the anisotropic effective potential of the birefringent perovskite *** lobe numbers of such petal-shaped polariton condensates can be precisely controlled by tuning the annular potential *** petal-shaped condensates form in multiple orbital states,carrying locked alternating nphase shifts and vortex-anti vortex superposition cores,arising from the coupling of counterrotating exciton-polaritons in the confined circular *** geometrically patterned microcavity exhibits promise for realizing room-temperature topological polaritonic devices and optical polaritonic switches based on periodic annular potentials.

A newly developed severe plastic deformation （SPD） technique, i.e. repetitive upsetting （RU）, is employed to improve the strength and ductility of a Mg-Gd-Y-Zr alloy. During the RU processing, dynamic recrystallization occurs in the Mg alloy, which leads to a significant grain refinement from 11.2 p.m to 2.8 μm. The yield strength （YS）, ultimate tensile strength （UTS） and elongation increase simultaneously with increasing RU passes. The microstructural evolution is affected by processing temperatures. Dynamic recrystallization prevails at low temperatures, while dynamic recovery is the main effect factor at high temperatures. Texture characteristics gradually become random during multiple passes of RU processing, which reduces the tension-compression asymmetry of the Mg-Gd-Y-Zr alloy. 2018 Published by elsevier Ltd on behalf of The editorial office of Journal of Materials Science ＆ Technology.

Background: Diabetes has been associated with an increa- sed risk of hepatocellular carcinoma (hCC) in studies of referred patients. Th is is the first population based case control study in the USA to examine this a ssociation while adjusting for other major risk factors related to hCC. Methods: We used the Surveillance Epidemiology and End-Results Program (SEER)Medicare l inked database to identify patients aged 65 years and older diagnosed with hCC a nd randomly selected non-cancer controls between 1994 and 1999. Only cases and controls with continuous Medicare enrolment for three years prior to the index d ate were examined. Inpatient and outpatient claims files were searched for diagn ostic codes indicative of diabetes,hepatitis C virus (hCV), hepatitis B virus (h BV), alcoholic liver disease, and haemochromatosis. hCC patients without these c onditions were categorised as idiopathic. Unadjusted and adjusted odds ratios we re calculated in logistic regression analyses. Results: We identified 2061 hCC p atients and 6183 non-cancer controls. Compared with non-cancer controls, patie nts with hCC were male (66%v 36%) and non-White (34%v 18%). The proportion of hCC patients with diabetes (43%) was significantly greater than non-cancer controls (19%). In multiple logistic regression analyses that adjusted for demo graphics features and other hCC risk factors (hCV, hBV, alcoholic liver disease, and haemochromatosis),diabetes was associated with a threefold increase in the risk of hCC. In a subset of patients without these major risk factors, the adjus ted odds ratio for diabetes declined but remained significant (adjusted odds rat io 2.87 (95%con-fidence interval 2.49-3.30)).
