Periph.ral nerve injuries induce a severe motor and sensory deficit. Since th. availability of autologous nerve transplants for nerve repair is very limited, alternative treatment strategies are sough., including th. use of tubular nerve guidance conduits(tNGcs). h.wever, th. use of tNGcs results in poor functional recovery and central necrosis of th. regenerating tissue, wh.ch.limits th.ir application to sh.rt nerve lesion defects(typically sh.rter th.n 3 cm). Given th. importance of vascularization in nerve regeneration, we h.poth.sized th.t enabling th. growth.of blood vessels from th. surrounding tissue into th. regenerating nerve with.n th. tNGc would h.lp eliminate necrotic processes and lead to improved regeneration. In th.s study, we reported th. application of macroscopic h.les into th. tubular walls of silk-based tNGcs and compared th. various features of th.se improved silk^(+) tNGcs with.th. tubes with.ut h.les(silk^(–) tNGcs) and autologous nerve transplants in an 8-mm sciatic nerve defect in rats. Using a combination of micro-computed tomograph. and h.stological analyses, we were able to prove th.t th. use of silk^(+) tNGcs induced th. growth.of blood vessels from th. adjacent tissue to th. intraluminal neovascular formation. A significantly h.gh.r number of blood vessels in th. silk^(+) group was found compared with.autologous nerve transplants and silk^(–), accompanied by improved axon regeneration at th. distal coaptation point compared with.th. silk^(–) tNGcs at 7 weeks postoperatively. In th. 15-mm(critical size) sciatic nerve defect model, we again observed a distinct ingrowth.of blood vessels th.ough.th. tubular walls of silk^(+) tNGcs, but with.ut improved functional recovery at 12 weeks postoperatively. Our data proves th.t macroporous tNGcs increase th. vascular supply of regenerating nerves and facilitate improved axonal regeneration in a sh.rt-defect model but not in a critical-size defect model. A one-dimensional momentum conservation equation for a straigh. jet driven by an electrical field is developed. It is presented in terms of a stress component, wh.ch.can be applied to any constitutive relation of fluids. Th. only assumption is th.t th. fluid is incompressible. Th. results indicate th.t both.th. axial and radial constitutive relations are required to close th. governing equations of th. straigh. ch.rged jet. h.wever, wh.n th. trace of th. extra stress tensor is zero, only th. axial constitutive relation is required. It is also found th.t th. second normal stress difference for th. ch.rged jet is always zero. Th. comparison with.oth.r developed momentum equations is made.

current industrial robotic welding systems can- not ach.eve automated solutions for multi-layer multi-pass welding of complex joints due to th. presence of non- uniform and irregular welding groove geometries. Th.s paper presents an adaptive pass planning approach.for robotic welding of such.complex joints. Th. welding groove is first segmented considering both.th. variation in groove dimension and th. reach.bility of th. robot welding torch. For each.welding segment, th. welding passes are planned to be in accordance with.welding practices, viz., keeping th. same number of welding passes in each.layer wh.le maintaining consistent welding parameters. An adaptive pass adjustment sch.me is developed to address th. discrepancies between th. simulated results and th. actual welding deposition after finish.ng a few layers of welding. corresponding robot path. are generated and optimized to ensure minimum joint movement subject to th.ee constraints, viz., reach.bility, collision-free and singularity avoidance. Th. proposed approach.h.s been sim- ulated with.th. arc welding of a Y-type joint found typically in offsh.re structures.

Formulation and numerical evaluation of a novel twice-interpolation finite element meth.d （TFEM） is presented for solid mech.nics problems. In th.s meth.d, th. trial function for Galerkin weak form is constructed th.ough.two stages of consecutive interpolation. Th. primary interpolation follows exactly th. same procedure of standard FEM and is furth.r reproduced according to both.nodal values and averaged nodal gradients obtained from primary interpolation. Th. trial functions th.s constructed h.ve continuous nodal gradients and contain h.gh.r order polynomial with.ut increasing total freedoms. Several bench.ark examples and a real dam problem are used to examine th. TFEM in terms of accuracy and convergence. compared with.standard FEM, TFEM can ach.eve significantly better accuracy and h.gh.r convergence rate, and th. continuous nodal stress can be obtained with.ut any smooth.ng operation. It is also found th.t TFEM is insensitive to th. quality of th. elemental mesh. In addition, th. present TFEM can treat th. incompressible material with.ut any modification.

A novel numerical meth.d is explored and named as mesh.free poly-cell Galerkin meth.d. An improved moving least-square （MLS） sch.me is presented, wh.ch.can avoid th. matrix inversion in standard MLS and can be used to construct sh.pe functions possessing delta kronech.r property. A new type of local support is introduced to ensure th. alignment of integral domains with.th. cells of th. back-ground mesh. wh.ch.will reduce th. difficult in integration. An intensive numerical study is conducted to test th. accuracy of th. present meth.d. It is observed th.t solutions with.good accuracy can be obtained with.th. present meth.d.

Th. canopy stomatal movement, a plant ph.siological process, generally occurs with.n leaves but its influence on exch.nge of cO2, water vapor, and sensible h.at fluxes between atmosph.re and terrestrial ecosystem. Many studies h.ve documented th.t th. interaction between leaf ph.tosynth.sis and canopy stomatal conductance is obvious. Th.s, information on stomatal conductance is valuable in climate and ecosystem models. In current study, a newly developed model was adopted to calculate canopy stomatal conductance of winter wh.at in h.ang-h.ai-h.i (h.h.h. Plain of ch.na (31.5 - 42.7°N, 110.0 - 123.0°E). Th. remote sensing information from NOAA-AVh.R and meteorological observed data were used to estimate regional scale stomatal conductance distribution. canopy stomatal conductance distribution pattern of winter wh.at on March.18, 1997 was also presented. Th. developed canopy stomatal conductance model migh. be used to estimate canopy stomatal conductance in land surface sch.mes and seems can be acted as a boundary condition in regional climatic model runs.

Th.refore, to ach.eve re-indus- trialization, an industrial Internet of th.ngs （IIoT） suite consisting of a micro-services-based IIoT cloud platform and IIoT-based smart h.b is proposed, wh.ch.h.lps to materialize re-industrialization and to conduct industrial upgrading and transformation to ach.eve smart production and h.gh.value-added manufacturing processes.

Exact solutions are obtained for transient torsio- nal responses of a finitely long, functionally graded h.llow cylinder under th.ee different end conditions, i.e. free-free, free-fixed and fixed-fixed. Th. cylinder with.its external surface fixed is subjected to a dynamic sh.aring stress at th. internal surface. Th. material properties are assumed to vary in th. radial direction in a power law form, wh.le keep invariant in th. axial direction. With.expansion in th. axial direction in terms of trigonometric series, th. governing equations for th. unknown functions about th. radial coordinate r and time t are deduced. By applying th. variable substitution tech.ique, th. superposition meth.d and th. separation of variables consecutively, series-form solutions of th. equations are obtained. Natural frequencies and th. transient torsional responses are finally discussed for a functionally graded finite h.llow cylinder.

Research.rs in th. past h.d noticed th.t application of Artificial Neural Networks （ANN） in place of conventional statistics on th. basis of data mining tech.iques predicts more accurate results in h.draulic predictions. Mostly th.se works pertained to applications of ANN. Recently, anoth.r tool of soft computing, namely, Genetic Programming （GP） h.s caugh. th. attention of research.rs in civil engineering computing. Th.s article examines th. usefulness of th. GP based approach.to predict th. relative scour depth.downstream of a common type of ski-jump bucket spillway. Actual field measurements were used to develop th. GP model. Th. GP based estimations were found to be equally and more accurate th.n th. ANN based ones, especially, wh.n th. underlying cause-effect relationsh.p became more uncertain to model.
