Neoadjuvant treatment for advanced esoph.geal cancer: response assessment before surgery and h.w to predict response to ch.moradiation before starting treatment

Patients with.advanced esoph.geal cancer（T3-4, N） h.ve a poor prognosis. Ch.moradiation or ch.moth.rapy before esoph.gectomy with.adequate lymph.denectomy is th. standard treatment for patients with.resectable advanced esoph.geal carcinoma. h.wever, only patients with.major h.stopath.logic response（regression to less th.n 10% of th. primary tumor） after preoperative treatment will h.ve a prognostic benefit of preoperative ch.moradiation. Using current th.rapy regimens about 40% to 50% of th. patients sh.w major h.stopath.logical response. Th. remaining coh.rt does not benefit from th.s neoadjuvant approach.but migh. benefit from earlier surgical resection. Th.refore, it is an aim to develop tools for response prediction before starting th. treatment and for early response assessment identifying responders. Th. current review discusses th. different imaging tech.iques and th. most recent studies about molecular markers for early response prediction. Th. results sh.w th.t [^18F]-fluorodeoxyglucose-positron emission tomograph.（FDGPET） h.s a good sensitivity but th. specificity is not robust enough.for routine clinical use. Newer positron emission tomograph. detector tech.ology, th. combination of FDG-PET with.computed tomograph., additional evaluation criteria and standardization of evaluation may improve th. predictive value. Th.re exist a great number of retrospective studies using molecular markers for prediction of response. Until now th. clinical use is missing. But th. results of first prospective studies are promising. A future perspective may be th. combination of imaging tech.ics and special molecular markers for individualized th.rapy. Anoth.r aspect is th. response assessment after finish.ng neoadjuvant treatment protocol. Th. different clinical meth.ds are discussed. Th. results sh.w th.t until now no non-invasive meth.d is valid enough.to assess complete h.stopath.logical response.

<i>STAT</i>1 gene mutation is not implicated in upper aerodigestive cancers

Autosomal Dominant Ch.onic Mucocutaneous Candidiasis (AD-CMC) is ch.racterized by defective T cell immunity, leading to fungal infections limited to mucosal surfaces. Recently it was discovered th.t mutations in th. coiled-coil (CC) domain of STAT1 are th. cause of AD-CMC. STAT1 deficiency h.s been implicated in experimental models of oesoph.geal cancer (EC) and h.ad and neck carcinoma (h.C). Both.carcinoma types are prevalent among CMC patients. Consequently, we postulated th.t th. same mutation in th. STAT1 gene triggering AD-CMC, could also be involved in oesoph.geal- or h.ad and neck carcinogenesis. h.wever we failed to identify th. c.820C>T mutation in th. STAT1 CC domain in 3 coh.rts of Dutch.Caucasian origin: being 351 EC patients, 325 h.C patients and 309 controls. Alth.ugh.it seems valuable to investigate th. relationsh.p between AD-CMC and upper aerodigestive neo- plasms, th. c.820C>T mutation in th. STAT1 gene does not seem implicated in EC and h.C aetiology.

h.gh.spin states in182Au h.ve been produced and studied via th.152Sm(35Cl,5nγ)182Au reaction. Th. level sch.me consisting of th. πh.9/2?νi 13/2 and πi 13/2?νi 13/2 bands h.s been establish.d for th. first time. Th. low spin signature inversion in both.bands h.s been found. Th. observed signature inversion ph.nomena can be interpreted qualitatively using th. pairing and deformation self-consistent cranked Wood-Saxon calculations.

Th. Gas-to-Dust Relation in th. Dark Cloud L1523-Observational Evidence for CO Gas Depletion

Correlation between gas and dust column density h.s been studied for th. dark globule L1523. Th. 13CO（J=1→0） emission is used for tracing th. gas, and th. IR emissions, for tracing th. dust constituent. In order to match.th. beam resolution between th. images, a beam de-convolution algorith. based on th. Maximum Correlation Meth.d （MCM） was applied on th. Infrared Astronomical Satellite （IRAS） data. Th. morph.logy of 13CO column density map sh.ws a close correlation to th.t of 100μm dust optical depth. Th. distribution of th. optical depth.at 100 μm follows th.t of gas column density more closely th.n does th. flux map at eith.r 60 or 100μm. Th. ratio of th. 13CO column density to th. 100μm optical depth.sh.ws a decreasing trend with.increasing dust optical depth.in th. central part, indicating possible molecular gas condensation onto dust particles. Th. excessive decrease in th. CO column density in th. envelope may most probably be due to th. ph.to-dissociation of CO molecules.

Cyclic beh.vior of reinforced sand under principal stress rotation

Alth.ugh.th. cyclic rotation of th. principal stress direction is important,its effect on th. deformation beh.vior and dynamic properties of th. reinforced soil h.s not been reported to *** carried out on large-scale h.llow cylinder samples reveal th.t th. cyclic rotation of th. principal stress direction results in significant variations of strain components(ε,ε,εand γ) with.periodic ch.racteristics despite th. deviatoric stress being constant during *** oscillation can be related to th. corresponding variations in th. stress components and th. anisotropic fabric th.t rotate continuously along th. principal stress *** under rotation appears to develop a plastic *** trends are observed for reinforced sand,but th. sh.ar interaction,th. interlocking between particles and reinforcement layer,and th. confinement result in significant reductions in th. induced strains and associated irrecoverable plastic *** of th. strains occur in th. first cycle,and as th. number of cycles increases,th. presence of strains becomes very small,wh.ch.is almost *** indicates th.t th. soil h.s reach.d anisotropic critical state(ACS),wh.re a stable structure is formed after continuous orientation,realignment and rearrangement of th. particles accompanied with.increasing cyclic *** in th. range of 60°-135° produces more induced strains even in th. presence of th. reinforcement,wh.n compared with.oth.r *** relates to th. extension mode of th. test in th.s range in wh.ch.σ>σand to th. relative approach.between th. mobilized plane and th. weakest h.rizontal *** results in an increase in sh.ar modulus wh.le it appears to h.ve no effect on th. damping *** cycles of rotation result in an increase in sh.ar modulus and lower damping ratio due to th. densification th.t causes a decrease in sh.ar strain and less dissipation of energy.
