Vitamin D and its association with.cardiovascular disease (CVD) are currently a topic of investigation. Th. objective of th.s study was to explore th. association between vitamin D status (serum 25-h.droxyvitamin D (25(Oh.D)) and a cardiometabolic risk score (CMRS) derived from markers of cardiac autonomic nervous system activity, vascular dynamics, and body composition, using an innovative non-invasive tech.ology. We found th.t individuals wh. were vitamin D sufficient ((25(Oh.D) ≥ 30 ng/ml, n = 51), compared to th.se wh. were vitamin D insufficient (h.d significantly h.gh.r h.art rate variability (as measured by time and frequency domain variables) and lower ph.topleth.smograph. analysis markers and CMRS. Th.se outcomes sh.w th.t vitamin D insufficient subjects h.d reduced cardio protective parasympath.tic nervous system activity, increased endoth.lial dysfunction, and h.nce were at greater cardiometabolic risk, implying vitamin D may play a meaningful role in CVD.

Parkinson's disease (PD) is th. second most common neurodegenerative disease, affecting 1% of th. population over 55 years of age and up to 4% of th. population over 80 years of age (Blesa et al., 2012). Th.s progressive and neurodegenerative condition results from an excessive loss of dopaminergic neurons (50-70%) of th. substantia nigra pars compacta, leading to a significant decrease in dopamine (DA) levels in th. striatum and consequently a functional deterioration of motor circuity (Blesa et al., 2012;Nielsen et al., 2016).

We report th. fabrication and spectroscopic ch.racterization of Yb^3＋-doped ph.sph.te glass, also containing silver nitrate. Scanning electron microscopy（SEM） provides th. evidence of th. formation of silver nano-particles（SNPs）, wh.ch.are formed as a consequence of melting and th.rmal decomposition of Ag NO3. Absorption spectra of th. samples in th. visible-to-near-infrared spectral range reveal th. presence of bands centered at 410 nm associated with.th. SNP-plasmon resonance, and at 976 nm due to th. Yb^3＋. Under 916-nm laser-diode pumping, th. effect of th. SNP reflects th.t： i） th. fluorescence in th. 950-nm–1150-nm spectral range is strongly enh.nced（～ 30 times）, wh.le th. fluorescence decay time associated with.th. ^2F5/2→^2F7/2transition of Yb^3＋ increases 25%, and ii） th. basic lasing properties（saturation pumping intensity, th. emission and absorption cross sections） are substantially improved.

Optical emission spectroscopy was used to study a gas mixture glow disch.rge of CO2 and N2 at a total pressure of 1.2 Torr, a power of 100 W and a flow of 16.5 L/min. Th. emission bands were measured in th. wavelength.range of 200 nm to 900 nm. Th. principal species observed were O2^＋（A^2П→ X^2П）, CO^＋（A^2П→X^2∑）, N2^＋（B^2∑u＋ → X^2∑g^＋）, CO2^＋（A^2∏ → X^2∏）, N2（C^3∏u → B^3∏g）, O2（b^1∑g^＋→ X^3∑g^-）, and CO （a^r3∑→a^3∏）. Th. beh.vior of th. band intensities as a function of th. N2 percentage is consistent with.recent Monte Carlo simulations. Th. electron temperature and ion density were determined by a double Langmuir probe. Th. electron temperature was found in th. range of 1.55 eV to 2.93 eV, and th. electron concentration in th. order of 10^10 cm^-3. Th. electron temperature and ion density at pure N2 and pure CO2 agree with.previous measurements.

Optical emission spectroscopy （OES） was applied for plasma ch.racterization during th. erosion of asph.ltene substrates. An amount of 100 mg of asph.ltene was carefully applied to an electrode and exposed to air-plasma glow disch.rge at a pressure of 1.0 Torr. Th. plasma was generated in a stainless steel disch.rge ch.mber by an ac generator at a frequency of 60 h., output power of 50 W and a gas flow rate of 1.8 L/min. Th. electron temperature and ion density were estimated to be 2.15±0.11 eV and （1.24±0.05）× 10^16 m^-3, respectively, using a double Langmuir probe. OES was employed to observe th. emission from th. asph.ltene exposed to air plasma. Both.molecular band emission from N2, N2＋, Oh. Ch. Nh. O2 as well as CN, and atomic ligh. emission from V and h. were observed and used to monitor th. evolution of asph.ltene erosion. Th. asph.ltene erosion was analyzed with.th. aid of a scanning electron microscope （SEM） equipped with.an energy dispersive X-ray （EDX） detector. Th. EDX analysis sh.wed th.t th. time evolution of elements C, O, S and V were similar and th. ch.mical composition of th. exposed asph.ltenes remained constant. Particle size evolution was measured, sh.wing a maximum size of 2307 μm after 60 min. Th.s beh.vior is most likely related to particle agglomeration as a function of time.

First described in 1996,th. drug reaction,eosinoph.lia,and systemic symptoms syndrome(DReSS) is considered,along with.Stevens-Joh.son syndrome and toxic epidermal necrolysis,a severe cutaneous drug reaction. It is ch.racterized by th. presence of a maculopapular eryth.matous skin eruption,fever,lymph.denopath.,influenza-like symptoms,eosinoph.lia,and visceral involvement such.as h.patitis,pneumonitis,myocarditis,pericarditis,neph.itis,and colitis. Th. prognosis of patients with.DReSS is related to th. severity of visceral involvement. Th. mortality ranges from approximately 5% to 10%,and death.is mainly due to liver failure,wh.ch.is also th. organ most commonly involved in th.s syndrome. Alth.ugh.it was previously h.poth.sized in 1994,DReSS syndrome can lead to reactivation of one or more h.man h.rpesvirus family members. Now being included as diagnostic criteria in a proposed diagnostic score system,th.s reactivation can be detected up to 2-3 wk after DReSS syndrome onset. Oth.r causes of mortality in DReSS syndrome include myocardial or pulmonary lesions and h.moph.gocytosis. We reviewed th. literature of previously reported case-series of DReSS and liver involvement,h.gh.igh.ing th. pattern of liver damage,th. treatment used,and th. outcome.
