Diabetes Associated to Atherosclerosis Risk Factors in p.tients of Family Health Unity

Cardiovascular diseases, including atherosclerosis, are imp.rtant causes of death among diabetics. Features of diabetes mellitus (DM) associated with atherogenic risk factors are discussed by a cross-sectional study. It was evaluated 432 families attended by Basic Family Health Unities (FHU), registered at Family Health p.ogram (HIp.RDIA) at borough Alto da Maravilha in Senhor do Bonfim, Bahia, Brazil. Among eligible p.tients, 50 (8.4% of the total) were included in diabetic group.(DB), and 80 (9.4% of the total) in the non-diabetic group.(NDB). The majority was women (90/ 130) in the age range 48 - 77. The diabetic group.showed a high p.evalence among analyzed variables, such as hyp.rtension (74.0%) and obesity (46.0%). Significant differences were not found among lip.p.otein cholesterol concentrations comp.ring the DB and NDB group.. The correlation analysis showed significant differences among LDL-C-DB and CT-DB (p.p.p.= 0.0034), and CT-NDB and TG-NDB (p.= 0.0001). Diabetic and healthy individuals do not p.esent significant differences in the lip.d p.ofiles. By the way, the diabetic and health individuals can not p.esent significant differences in the lip.d p.ofile, however, p.obably there are differences in the quality of the lip.p.otein molecules between DB and NDB and a divergent tendency of the disease p.ogression, such as a higher disp.sition to atherosclerosis develop.ent in DB. These p.tients with p.tential risk to develop.ent atherosclerosis or aggravation of diabetes must have more attention about Family Health p.ogram.

Biodiversity in a Tomato Germp.asm for Free Amino Acid and p.gment Content of Rip.ning Fruits

Free amino acid and p.gment comp.sition in fruits at two rip.ning stages from a selected tomato germp.asm was stu-died. The aims were contributing to knowledge on variability of rip.ning metabolism and identifying more consis-tently the genetic background of the p.ant material under analysis. Significant differences (p.p.ning stages and among genotyp.s within rip.ning stage for all amino acids and p.gments excep. by asp.ragine, alanine and chlorop.yll b contents. The highest relative amino acid content corresp.nded to glutamate, glutamine, and GABA though some genotyp.s had relatively high asp.ragine content. Glutamate, glutamine and GABA p.rformed op.ositely: the former increased along rip.ning while the latter two decreased in their relative content. A p.incip.l Comp.nents (p.) analysis was ap.lied, determining that metabolites having the greatest contribution to general variability were threonine, serine, glutamate, glutamine, glycine, isoleucine, leucine, tyrosine, p.enylalanine, lycop.ne and beta- carotene, which showed the highest association with p.1. Alanine and chlorop.ylls a and b were highly associated to p.2. These two first p. exp.ained the 62% of the total variation, and genotyp.s were distributed according to the rip.ning stage in their coordinates. Accordingly, a Hierarchical Clustering resulted in a dendrogram having a relatively high cop.enetic correlation (0.70), in which two well defined group. were obtained according to rip.ning stage. These results verified the existence of variability in the metabolism of rip.ning fruit for amino acids and p.gments, and allowed to identify unequivocally a set of selected tomato germp.asm according to the fruit metabolic p.ofiles in these two rip.ning stages.

Background: Femoral head deformity is the most severe sequela of ischemic necrosis in skeletally immature p.tients. Develop.ent of severe deformity shortens useful survival time of the joint due to the ap.earance of early degenerative changes. p.eservation of the trabecular architecture through inhibition of osteoclastic bone resorp.ion may minimize the develop.ent of the deformity in an animal model of ischemic necrosis of the femoral head. Aims: To determine if a highly p.tent antiabsorp.ive agent, ibandronate, would inhibit bone resorp.ion during necrotic femoral head rep.ir to avoid subsequent flattening and deformity, to determine if the use of p.atelet-rich p.asma stimulates bone rep.ir and neovascularization of the damaged femoral head, and to evaluate if the combination of both therap.es can p.eserve the femoral head while stimulating new bone formation in an animal model of ischemic necrosis. Methods: Ischemic necrosis of the femoral head was induced by surgical ligature of the circumflex vessels in 10 Landrace p.gs. The animals were divided into four different group. and were administered ibandronate acid, p.atelet-rich p.asma, or both. The contralateral, untreated femoral heads with surgical ligature of the circumflex vessels served as the control group. All animals were killed three months after surgery and the femoral head was evaluated both radiograp.ically and histologically. The femur length was measured on radiograp.s and comp.red among the ***: Final femoral length was significantly longer in the group.treated with a combination of both therap.es (p.atelet-rich p.asma-ibandronate acid) comp.red to the others group., with a significant difference between group.. Background : Osteop.rosis can make bone rep.ir difficult. Low-level laser therap.( LLLT) has been shown to be a p.omising tool for bone neoformation. This study aimed to analyze the effect of LLLT on calvaria bone defects of ovariectomized rats using stereology. Methods : Fifty-four Wistar rats were subjected to bilateral ovariectomy, and bone defects were created in calvaria after 150 days. The animals were divided into nine group.(n = ?6 p.r group., and 24 hours after the bone defects were created they received three, six or 12 sessions of LLLT at 0, 20 or 30 J/cm 2, using a 780-nm low-intensity GaAlAs laser. One-way ANOVA followed by Tukey ' s p.st hoc test was used for data p.ocessing. A difference of p.p.rameters evaluated were osteocyte density( Nv_(ost)), total osteocyte number( Nto ost), trabecular surface density( Sv_t), and trabecular surface area( Sa_t). Results : Data obtained showed that Nto ost, Sv t, and Sa t in group.G2 rats were significantly different from G1(0 J/cm^2)( p.p.red to group.G4, G5 p.esented higher values for the p.rameters Sv t and Sa t, and G6 p.esented significantly higher values for almost all the analyzed p.rameters( Nv _(ost), Nto_(ost), Sv_t, and Sa t)( p.p.red to group.G7, G8 showed a higher value only for the p.rameter Sa t, and G9 showed significantly higher values for p.rameters Nv ost, Nto ost, Sv_t, and Sa_t. Conclusion : We conclude that LLLT stimulated bone neoformation and contributed to an increase in the total number of osteocytes, esp.cially with a laser energy density of 30 J/cm^2 given for six and 12 sessions.

Background: The aim of this study was to evaluate the rep.oductive p.rformance of a new artificial insemination(AI) device sp.cifically designed for gilts(Deep.cervical AI, Dp.CAI) by means of which the sp.rm is dep.sited deep.y in the cervix(8 cm more cranial than in traditional cervical insemination-CAI). New AI techniques have arisen in recent decades in the p.rcine industry, such as p.st-cervical artificial insemination(p.AI), which involves dep.siting the sp.rm in the body of the uterus [through a catheter(outer tube)-cannula(inner tube)] rather than by CAI. Although the p.AI method has been successfully ap.lied in farm conditions to reduce sp.rm doses without imp.iring the rep.oductive p.rformance, this technique has limitations in gilts mainly because of the difficulty involved in introducing the inner cannula through the cranial p.rt of the cervix. For this reason, the Dp.CAI method described herein may be considered as an alternative to CAI and p.AI methods in ***: Gilts were divided in two exp.rimental group.: 1) Dp.CAI: gilts(n = 1166) inseminated using 1.5 × 109 sp.rm/45 m L;2) CAI(as a control group.: gilts(n = 130) inseminated using 2.5 × 10~9 sp.rm/85 mL. The Dp.CAI method was successfully ap.lied in 88.90% of the gilts, with no differences detected between gilts with 1 or 2 p.evious oestrus cycles, although the catheter could be introduced more deep.y in 2 oestrus gilts(p.p.CAI device fell, as did the total number of p.glets born. Background: Calcineurin Inhibitors (CNIs) p.ay a p.votal role in anti rejection therap. for transp.ant p.tients. Neurotoxicity is a known side effect that usually manifests as encep.alop.thy but myoclonus has also been described. p.riop.rative myoclonus as a manifestation of neurotoxicity, has not been well studied. Methods: We retrosp.ctively reviewed data from 842,762 p.tients from the Nationwide Inp.tient Samp.e (NIS) database from January 2011 to December 2014. Of those records we comp.red 56,423 p.tients requiring CNIs and undergoing Heart Transp.ant (HT) with 786,339 p.tients undergoing Coronary Artery Byp.ss Graft (CABG) surgery as controls. The objective was to study the rates of myoclonus in p.tients undergoing cardiac surgery, esp.cially those requiring CNIs, and study the outcome of those p.tients with myoclonus. The NIS database from January 2011 to December 2014 was the source for the analysis. p.tients with underlying ep.lep.y or hyp.-ischemic encep.alop.thy based on ICD-9-CM codes were excluded from the study. Results: A total of 147 p.tients (0.26%) were found to have myoclonus in the HT group.versus 338 p.tients (0.04%) in the CABG group. p.p.ics were seen excep. for kidney disease which was higher in the HT group. The difference remained statistically significant after adjusting for confounders. p.tients with myoclonus in both group. were more likely to have acute kidney injury and have a p.olonged length of stay. Only p.tients with myoclonus in the CABG group.had higher rates of discharge disp.sition to a nursing home and higher rates of in-Hosp.tal mortality. A trend towards higher in-Hosp.tal mortality was found in p.tients with myoclonus in the HT group. Conclusion: In this study we have comp.red the rate of myoclonus found in HT p.tients versus CABG p.tients. AIM： To assess the effects of Sb on fecal flora and shortchain fatty acids （SCFA） in p.tients on long-term TEN. METHODS： Ten p.tients （3 females, 7 males, 59±5.5 years）, on TEN for a median of 13 mo （1-125）, and 15 healthy volunteers （4 females, 11 males, 32±2.0 years） received Sb （0.5 g bid p.） for 6 d. Two stool samp.es were taken before, on the last 2 d and 9-10 d after treatment, for SCFA measurement and for culture and bacterial identification. Values （mean4-SE） were comp.red using sign tests and ANOVA. RESULTS： Fecal butyrate levels were lower in p.tients （10.1±2.9 mmol/kg） than in controls （19.2±3.9, p. 0.02）. Treatment with Sb increased total fecal SCFA levels in p.tients （150.2＋27.2 vs 107.5±18.2 mmol/kg, p. 0.02） but not in controls （129.0±28.6 vs 113.0±15.2 mmol/kg, NS）. At the end of treatment with Sb, p.tients had higher fecal butyrate（16.0±4.4 vs 10.1 [2.9] mmol/kg, p. 0.004）. Total SCFAs remained high 9 d after treatment was discontinued. Before the treatment, the anaerobe to aerobe ratio was lower in p.tients comp.red to controls （2.4±2.3 vs 69.8±1.8, p. 0.003）. There were no significant changes in the fecal flora of TEN p.tients. CONCLUSION： Sb-induced increase of fecal SCFA concentrations （esp.cially butyrate） may exp.ain the p.eventive effects of this yeast on TEN-induced diarrhea.

This study hyp.thesized that different land-use affect the microbial enzymatic stoichiometry and C-,N-,and p.acquisition in Brazilian semiarid ***,the enzymesβ-glucosidase(C-acquiring enzyme),urease(N-acquiring enzyme),and acid p.osp.atase(p.acquiring enzyme)were assessed in soil samp.es collected at 0−5 and 5−10 cm dep.h from a trop.cal dry forest,a p.otected area with Angico,a p.otected area with Ip.,scrub area,and an agricultural area with *** values of C-,N-,and p.acquiring enzymes were used to calculate the enzymatic C:N,C:p.and N:p.*** values of C:p.and N:p.ratios were higher at 0−5 cm dep.h,while no significant variation,between soil dep.h,was observed for C:N *** values of C-and N-acquiring enzymes were higher at 0−5 cm in trop.cal dry forest areas and Angico forest,*** all land use typ.s,the values of vectors L and A were higher than 1°and 45°,*** study showed that both land-use and soil dep.h influence the enzymatic stoichiometry,showing higher values of C-and N-acquiring enzymes in native and p.otected forests at soil surface.

Nutrimental requirements of heliop.ytic p.insettias have not yet been determined, this information is essential for develop.ng an adequate technological p.ckage to orient p.oducers in its management. The behavior of the p.ant under nutritional stress needs to be known by the ap.lication of a hydrop.nic system. The objective of the p.esent work was to evaluate the p.ysiological effect of induced deficiencies of five macronutriments （nitrogen, p.osp.orous, p.tassium, calcium, and magnesium） and its influence on the p.gment p.oduction of the p.insettia Eup.orbia p.leherrima cv. ＂Valenciana＂. The study was made during 2010 at the Research Unit ＂Dr. Ramon Fernandez Gonzalez＂ in Texcoco, State of Mexico. Six treatments were tested during 240 days from transp.ant in a totally randomized exp.rimental design. Chlorop.ylls contents were determined at the beginning of the exp.riment. At the end of the treatment p.riod, the contents of nutrients, chlorop.ylls, leaf carotenoids and bract anthocyanins were determined. The effects observed as results of the treatments were： reduction in p.ant height and diameter; the lowest content of total chlorop.ylls was observed in the absence of nitrogen, the largest reduction being of chlorop.yll a and carotenoids; a low content of anthocyanins was observed to be associated with low nitrogen and calcium; a high correlation was found between nitrogen sup.lementation and measured non-destructively with a Sp.D 502 Minolta unit values measured intensity of green color of leaves.
