Mechanical response of a tunnel subjected to strike-slip faulting processes,based on a multi-scale modeling method

The stick-slip action of strike-slip faults poses a significant threat to the safety and stability of underground *** this study,the north-east area of the Longmenshan fault,Sichuan,provides the geological background;the rheological characteristics of the crustal lithosphere and the nonlinear interactions between plates are described by Burger’s viscoelastic constitutive model and the friction constitutive model,respectively.A large-scale global numerical model for plate squeezing analysis is established,and the seemingly periodic stick-slip action of faults at different crust depths is *** a second model at a smaller scale,a local finite element model(sub-model),the time history of displacement at a ground level location on the Longmenshan fault plane in a stick-slip action is considered as the displacement *** integration of these models,creating a multi-scale modeling method,is used to evaluate the crack propagation and mechanical response of a tunnel subjected to strike-slip *** determinations of the recurrence interval of stick-slip action and the cracking characteristics of the tunnel are in substantial agreement with the previous field investigation and experimental results,validating the multi-scale modeling *** can be concluded that,regardless of stratum stiffness,initial cracks first occur at the inverted arch of the tunnel in the footwall,on the squeezed side under strike-slip *** smaller the stratum stiffness is,the smaller the included angle between the crack expansion and longitudinal direction of the tunnel,and the more extensive the crack expansion *** the tunnel in a high stiffness stratum,both shear and bending failures occur on the lining under strike-slip faulting,while for that in the low stiffness stratum,only bending failure occurs on the lining.

Carbonated recycled powder as cementitious auxiliary material can reduce carbon emissions and realize high-quality recycling of recycled *** this paper,microscopic property of recycled powder with three carbonation methods was tested through XRD and SEM,the mechanical property and microstructure of recycled powder mortar with three replacement rates were studied by ISO method and SEM,and the strengthening mechanism was *** results showed that the mechanical property of recycled powder mortar decreased with the increasing of replacement *** is suggested that the replacement rate of recycled powder should not exceed 20%.The strength index and activity index of carbonated recycled powder mortar were improved,in which the flexural strength was increased by 27.85%and compressive strength was increased by 20%at the *** powder can be quickly and completely carbonated,and the improvement effect of CH pre-soaking carbonation was the *** activity index of carbonated recycled powder can meet the requirements of Grade II technical standard for recycled *** results revealed the activation mechanism of carbonated recycled powder such as surplus calcium source effect,alkaline polycondensation effect and carbonation enhancement effect.

Harnessing bacteria for tumor therapy:Current advances and challenges

After a century of standstill,bacteria-based tumor therapy has resurged recently benefiting from the revolution of tumor immunotherapy,which provides unique solutions to tackle the obstacles of traditional tumor *** and facultative anaerobes with active tropism can selectively colonize at tumor sites and suppress tumor growth via different mechanisms,serving as attractive tools for tumor treatment either as a monotherapy or combining with other therapies for synergistic anti-tumor *** this critical review,we introduce the recent advances of bacteria-based tumor therapy from the following ***,the general properties of bacteria are reviewed emphasizing on their structural components related to tumor immunotherapy,and the main bacteria that have been used in tumor therapy are ***,the benefits of bacteria for tumor therapy are illustrated,such as tumor targetability,deep penetration,and facile genetic engineering for attenuation,enhanced efficacy,as well as ***,anti-tumor mechanisms of bacteria are summarized,which refer to intrinsic tumoricidal activities,immune activation,bacteria metabolism,and their capability to regulate gut microbiota ***,bacteria could act as carriers to deliver various types of therapeutics to achieve combination therapy with improved *** addition,several challenges for anti-tumor applications of bacteria are discussed regarding the delivery,efficacy and safety issues,and potential solutions are also ***,the possible improvements and perspectives are discussed in the end,which provide a guideline for the design of advanced bacteria-based tumor therapeutics in the future.

Saline conducted electric coagulation (SCEC):original experience in experimental hepatectomy

Objective: To evaluate the feasibility and superiority of a new coagulating and hemostatic method named "saline conducted electric coagulation (SCEC)". Methods: The Peng's multifunction operative dissector (PMOD) was modified to enable saline to effuse persistently out of its nib at a constant speed. In a group of six New Zealand rabbits, two hepatic lobes of each rabbits were resected respectively by SCEC and conventional electric coagulation (EC). The features of SCEC were recorded by photo and compared with conventional EC. After 7 d, the coagulating depth was measured in each residual hepatic lobe. Hepatic tissue was dyed by hematoxylin and eosin (HE) and studied under a microscope. Results: The coagulating depth increased with the continuation of SCEC time. Hepatectomies were performed successfully, no rabbit died in the perioperative period. The incisal surface of SCEC was gray-white with no red bleeding point. There was a thick solidified layer at the margin and a thin red-white intermittent layer between the solidified layer and normal hepatic tissue at the vertical section of SCEC. The mean coagulating depth of SCEC was 1.8 cm vs. 0.3 cm of conventional EC. Pathological examination showed a mild inflammatory reaction by SCEC. Conclusions: SCEC is a feasible and safe method for surgical hemostasis. As a new technique for liver resection, SCEC shows better coagulating effect and milder inflammatory reaction than conventional EC. Our study shows bloodless liver resection can also be performed by SCEC, especially for liver malignant tumor.

Transumbilical single-port laparoscopic cholecystectomy using traditional laparoscopic instruments:a report of thirty-six cases

Objective:To evaluate the feasibility and safety of the operation of transumbilical single-port laparoscopic cholecystectomy (TSPLC) by traditional laparoscopic instruments and summarize the initial ***:Sixty subjects with cholelithiasis were divided into two *** group (36 cases) underwent TSPLC and the control group (24 cases) underwent traditional three-port laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC).Postoperative complications were observed and operation time,hospital days,visual analogue scale (VAS) after 6 and 24 h of operation,and subject satisfaction score were ***:TSPLC and traditional LC were performed successfully in the two *** operation time in the TSPLC group was significantly longer than that in the control *** was no statistically significant difference in hospital stay and VAS between the TSPLC and control *** subject satisfaction score in the TSPLC group was 91.2,significantly higher than that in the control group (P<0.01).All subjects recovered from the operation and no postoperative complication occurred during the period of two weeks after ***:TSPLC is a feasible and safe method for cholecystectomy,although it may be more ***,it is welcomed by patients who are more concerned with cosmetic *** studies are needed to confirm its disadvantages and contraindications.

The 2022 Extreme Heatwave in Shanghai,Lower Reaches of the Yangtze River Valley:Combined Influences of Multiscale Variabilities

In the summer of 2022,China(especially the Yangtze River Valley,YRV)suffered its strongest heatwave(HW)event since *** this study,we examined the influences of multiscale variabilities on the 2022 extreme HW in the lower reaches of the YRV,focusing on the city of *** found that about 1/3 of the 2022 HW days in Shanghai can be attributed to the long-term warming trend of global *** mid-summer of 2022,an enhanced western Pacific subtropical high(WPSH)and anomalous double blockings over the Ural Mountains and Sea of Okhotsk,respectively,were associated with the persistently anomalous high pressure over the YRV,leading to the extreme *** Pacific Decadal Oscillation played a major role in the anomalous blocking pattern associated with the HW at the decadal time ***,the positive phase of the Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation may have contributed to regulating the formation of the double-blocking *** warming of both the warm pool of the western Pacific and tropical North Atlantic at the interannual time scale may also have favored the persistency of the double blocking and the anomalously strong *** the subseasonal time scale,the anomalously frequent phases 2-5 of the canonical northward propagating variability of boreal summer intraseasonal oscillation associated with the anomalous propagation of a weak Madden-Julian Oscillation suppressed the convection over the YRV and also contributed to the ***,the 2022 extreme HW originated from multiscale forcing including both the climate warming trend and air-sea interaction at multiple time scales.

AIM:To characterize the distribution of meibomian gland(MG)area loss(MGL)and its relationship with demographic characteristics,mites,and ***:This retrospective observational study included patients who visited the Dry Eye Clinic of Shenzhen Eye Hospital between June 2020 and August *** patient characteristics,ocular symptoms,Demodex test results of the eyelid edges,and the results of a comprehensive ocular surface analysis were *** was analyzed using Image J ***:This study enrolled 1204 outpatients aged 20-80(40.70±13.44)y,including 357 males(29.65%)and 847 females(70.35%).The patients were classified into mild(n=155;12.87%),moderate(n=795;66.03%),severe(n=206;17.11%),and extremely severe(n=48;3.99%)MGL *** was significantly larger in female than in male(P=0.006).The degree of MGL also significantly differed in age(P<0.001)and the more numbers of mites with severity(P<0.001).Multivariate disordered multinomial logistic regression analysis identified that female sex,older age,secretory symptoms,and a large number of mites were risk factors for MGL(P<0.05).CONCLUSION:Patients with MGL are more likely to be older,female,more numbers of mites,and increased secretion.

In this work,the underlying mechanism responsible for the near-linear elastic deformation behavior of a dual-phase Ti-Nb alloy consisting of β and α'' phase with large recoverable strain was systematically *** on in situ synchrotron X-ray diffraction(SXRD)analyses,it was found that besides intrinsic elastic deformation,a slight reversible β-α'' stress-induced martensitic(SIM)transformation,which proceeded in a consecutive mode under the retarding effect of micro-defects,took place during the near-linear elastic *** unloading,a small amount of residual macroscopic strain remained in the specimen due to the incomplete reverse α''→β transformation on *** high near-linear elastic deformability of the cold drawing(CD)Ti-Nb alloy has been revealed to be attributed to the coupling actions of intrinsic elasticity as well as the consecutive and reversible β-α'' SIM *** research may contribute to a new avenue for the design and development of novel dual-phase Ti-based alloys with desirable elastic deformability.
