There are four subtypes. namely, Ia, Ib, Ic and Id of the Early Carboniferous bauxite deposits of the old weathered crust type in guizhou, Sichuan, Hunan and Hubei provinces. They are all distributed in the Upper Yangtze old land. As a result of the Hunan-guizhou palaeo-faulting, the crust on the northern side of the fault was uplifted and became land, thus suffering denudation. The bauxitic substances left in the weathered crust evolved and were reworked into bauxite. On the other hand, the crust on the southern side of the fault sank and remained to be part of an ocean. The bauxite deposits of Ia and Ib subtypes were formed by in-situ enrichment of residual bauxitic substances in the weathered crust of the old land, but bauxite deposits of Ic and Id subtypes resulted from transportation, accumulation and sedimentation of allothogenous bauxitic substances on the weathered crust of the old land. The processes of transportation may be distinguished as dry transportation and wet transportation, both of which proceeded under atmospheric conditions.

The Carboniferous in guizhou may be divided into 3 lithostratigraphic regions, 2 series and 7 stages. TheLower Carboniferous is composed of 4 regional stages, 1 foraminifer assemblage, 4 fossil coral zones (with 9subzones) and 11 brachiopod assemblages; the Upper Carboniferous is divided into 3 regional. stages, 9fusulinid zones (with 2 subzones) and 4 ammonite zones. Based on the studies of foraminifers and *** base of the Carboniferous in guizhou 1s placed at least near the top of the coral Cystophrentis zone.

The Daposhang section at Muhua, Changshun. guizhou. is an excellent and attractive DevonianCarboniferous boundary section. The transitional beds between the Devonian and Carboniferous of the sectionare continuous and well exposed. belonging to the deep-water basin facies Abundant fossil groups have beendiscovered from this section: conodonts. ammonoids. trilobites. ostracods. vertebrate microfossils and so *** far as known. it has the most continuous and complete conodont zonation for the Devonian-Carboniferousboundary beds in the world. It is especially worth pointing out that both typical Siponodella pracsulcata andthe transitional forms between S. praesulcata and S. sulcata have been found from the upper pracsulcata Zoneof the Daposhang section. Evidently. we can not only prove the actual existence of the evolutionary lineagefrom S. praesulcata to S. sulcata, but also exactly define the level of the Devonian-Carboniferous boundary. Inthis paper. the development of the Devonian-Carboniferous boundary beds at the Daposhang section is dealtwith and the section is compared with the Muhua section and the Nanbiancun section which are the candidatesfor the Devonian-Carboniferous boundary stratotype. In the authous opinion the Daposhang section is obvi-ously better than the Muhua and the Nanbiancun sections. hence it can be recommended as one of the candi-dates for the international Devonian-Carboniferous boundary stratotype.

The bauxite in northern guizhou is shown by its unique palaeokarst forms and weathering textures andstructures to be of palaeokarst-weathering origin. On the basis of detailed studies of the sections of the bauxitedeposits, the genetic types of minerals, the hydrogen and oxygen stable isotopic composition of diaspore andcompositions of parent materials, the writer has revealed that Early Carboniferous laterization was the mainmineralizing stage of the bauxite, and the various mineralizing processes dominated by desilication andiron-separation created an excellent time-space environment for the formation of the bauxite.

Pteridophte resources are rich in guizhou, China. More than 700 species, belonging to 150 genera and 53 families, have been known so far Many of them are of edible, medicinal and ornamental value, and the rare and endemic species attract pteridologists being engaged in their research. Pteridophyte protection is much necessary and natural reserves provide an efficient method for most of them in guizhou. For better study and use, the establishment of special fern section or garden is of significance. A project of setting up a fern section in guizhou Botanioal Garden is being carried out. It is hopeful that it will be one of the ideal bases as a gone pool of subtropical ferns in China.

THE samples were collected from the Dachang, Gulu, Xishe and Houpo prospects of the deposit and theminerals for fluid inclusion studies include stibnite and its associated minerals quartz, fluorite, barite,pyrite, calcite, etc. Based on systematical studies by the authors, the data have been obtained on theshape, size and vapor/liquid ratio of 615 fluid inclusions, the homogenization temperatures of 176 fluidinclusions, the salinities of 49 fluid inclusions, the decrepitation temperatures of 20 fluid inclusions, thechemical composition of 8 fluid inclusions and the hydrogen and oxygen isotopic composition of 3 fluid inclusions. On the basis of the above data, this note discusses the low-temperature geochemical characteristics of the Dachang deposit.

The barite deposit in the Niutitang Formation of Lower Cambrian,in Tianzhu County,guizhou Province,western China,is a super- large barite deposit with about 2·109tons of ***,petrological and geochemical studies reveal that this barite deposit belongs to a hydrothermal sedimentary *** observations indicate that a lot of algae,sponge spicules and tube-type fos- sils are well-preserved in this barite section,and moreover,those fossils share most characteristics of the deep-sea hydrothermal venting community in the modern *** suggest that the hydrothermal venting community was thriving in hydrothermal vent in early Cam- brian,and it is of great significance for elucidating the geological background of the‘‘Cambrian explosion’’.China *** rights reserved.

This paper briefly reviews the Triassic marine reptile fossils in guizhou Province, especially the fossils that have been recently found in the Guanling area. Based on three sections at Guanling and Xingyi, guizhou Province and Luoping, Yunnan Province, four horizons with vertebrate fossils are recognized in the Middle and Upper Triassic of this area; They are from bottom to top: Member I and Member II of the Guanling Formation, and the Zhuganpo Member and the Wayao Member of the Falang Formation.

Dong ethnic people have rich indigenous knowledge in terms of their daily life and production, which plays an important role in the sustainable development of their village. This paper aims to understand traditional knowledge of Dong ethnic people in resource management and population control, including traditional resource management, traditional medicinal knowledge and village regulations in Zhanli Village in Southeast guizhou Province. The research methods include key informant interview, group discussion, participant observation and secondary data collect- ing. The results show that Zhanli villagers try their best to utilize indigenous knowledge to manage the natural resources and keep the stable population to make themselves live in a sustainable way. Indigenous knowledge plays an important role in managing their limited natural resources and keeping the population stable under an excellent condition. Zhanli villagers employ indigenous knowledge to manage natural resources and use local herbs to control the population. Village regulation terms significantly influence villagers’ awareness in resource management and birth control. Women play the chief role in employing indigenous knowledge in weaving as well as medicinal knowledge in birth control, and these kinds of knowledge are passed down through the female line. However, the inheritance style of traditional knowledge is decreasing. Indig- enous knowledge plays an important role in the sustainable development of this village, which gives implications for development practices to involve indigenous knowledge to achieve sustainable development.

Abundant and well-preserved macroalgae fossils have been discovered in silty mudstones and shales from the Middle Cambrian of Taijiang County, guizhou Province, China. Corallina Paraamphiroa siniansis gen. et sp. nov. in the Kaili Fm., is the earliest Corallina fossil, which usually coexists with other carbonaceous macroalgae fossils on the bedding planes of mudstone and shale and is different from the calcareous and phosphatized Precambrian-Cambrian thallus discovered in the Lower Cambrian of Siberia and the Doushantou phosphate rocks of Weng’an County, guizhou Province, China. The discovery of calcified thallus in the Kaili Fm. bears great importance on the study of phylogeny and evolution of early calcareous macroalgae.
