Isolation, screening and identifi cation of Bacillus spp. as direct-fed microbial candidates for aflatoxin B_1 biodegradation

Objective: To evaluate the ability of Bacillus spp. as direct-fed microbials(DFM) to biodegrade al atoxin B1(AFB1) by using an in vitro digestive model simulating in vivo ***: Sixty-nine Bacillus isolates were obtained from intestines, and soil samples were screened by using a selective media method against 0.25 and 1.00 μg/m L of AFB1 in modii ed czapek-Dox medium. Plates were incubated at 37 °c and observed every two days for two weeks. Physiological properties of the three Bacillus spp. candidates were characterized biochemically and by 16 S r RNA sequence analyzes for identii cation. Tolerance to acidic p H, osmotic concentrations of Na cl, bile salts were tested, and antimicrobial sensitivity proi les were also determined. Bacillus candidates were individually sporulated by using a solid fermentation method and combined. Spores were incorporated into 1 of 3 experimental feed groups: 1) Negative control group, with unmedicated starter broiler feed without AFB1; 2) Positive control group, with negative control feed contaminated with 0.01% AFB1; 3) DFM treated group, with positive control feed supplemented with 109 spores/g. After digestion time(3:15 h), supernatants and digesta were collected for high-performance liquid chromatography l uorescence detection analysis by ***: Three out of those sixty-nine DFM candidates showed ability to biodegrade AFB1 in vitro based on growth as well as reduction of l uorescence and area of clearance around each colony in modii ed czapek-Dox medium which was clearly visible under day light after 48 h of evaluation. Analysis of 16S-DNA identii ed the strains as Bacillus amyloliquefaciens, Bacillus megaterium and Bacillus subtilis. The three Bacillus strains were tolerant to acidic conditions(p H 2.0), tolerant to a high osmotic pressure(Na cl at 6.5%), and were able to tolerate 0.037% bile salts after 24 h of incubation. Root proliferation in native perennial grasses of arid Patagonia,Argentina

Pappophorum vaginatum is the most abundant c4 perennial grass desirable to livestock in rangelands of northeastern Patagonia, Argentina. We hypothesized that （1） defoliation reduce net primary productivity, and root length density and weight in the native species, and （2） root net primary productivity, and root length density and weight, are greater in P. vaginatum than in the other, less desirable, native species （i.e., Aristida spegazzinfi, A. subulata and Sporobolus cryptandrus）. Plants of all species were either exposed or not to a severe defoliation twice a year during two growing seasons. Root proliferation was measured using the cylinder method. cylindrical, iron structures, wrapped up using nylon mesh, were buried diagonally from the periphery to the center on individual plants. These structures, initially filled with soil without any organic residue, were dug up from the soil on 25 April 2008, after two successive defoliations in mid-spring 2007. During the second growing season （2008-2009）, cylinders were destructively harvested on 4 April 2009, after one or two defoliations in mid- and/or late-spring, respectively. Roots grown into the cylinders were obtained after washing the soil manually. Defoliation during two successive years did reduce the study variables only after plants of all species were defoliated twice, which supported the first hypothesis. The greater root net primary productivity, root length den- sity and weight in P. vaginatum than in the other native species, in support of the second hypothesis, could help to explain its greater abundance in rangelands of Argentina.

BAcKGROUND The outcomes of Hodgkin's lymphoma(HL)in Mexico have not been widely *** and affordable treatments have been adopted in middleincome *** The aim was to evaluate long-used therapies for HL in Mexico in a long-term *** In a 34-year time period,88 patients with HL were treated at a single institution in *** were treated with adriamycin bleomycin vinblastine and dacarbazine(ABVD)or mechlorethamine,vincristine,procarbazine,and prednisone(MOPP).Relapsed or refractory patients were given ifosfamide,carboplatin,and etoposide(IcE)followed by autologous or allogeneic stem cell *** Thirty-seven women and 51 men were included;the median age was 29 *** were followed for a mean of 128 *** 310-mo overall survival(OS)was 83%for patients treated with MOPP and 88%for those treated with *** OS of patients who received autologous stem cell transplantation was 76%(330 mo)vs 93%(402 mo)in those who did *** HL may be less aggressive in Mexican population than in *** chemotherapy renders acceptable results,regardless of clinical stage.

Kinetic Aspects of Gold and Silver Recovery in cementation with Zinc Power and Electrocoagulation Iron Process

The Merrill-crowe or cementation process is used for concentration and purification of gold and silver from cyanide solutions. Among other available options for recovery of precious metals from cyanide solutions, Electrocoagulation (Ec) is a very promising electrochemical technique for the recovery of this precious metals. In this work first, an introduction to the fundamentals of the Merrill crowe and Ec process are given, then Kinetic aspects conditions and results of the both process, for the removal of gold and silver from cyanide solutions are presented, and finally the characterization of the solid products formed during the Ec process with X-ray Diffraction and SEM are shown. Results suggests that The cementation of both gold and silver by suspended zinc particles conforms to well-behaved fist order kinetics and for the Ec process the results show that is an excellent option to remove Au and Ag from cyanide solution by using iron electrodes. Finally, 99.5% of gold and silver were removed in the experimental Ec reactor, and it was achieved in 5 minutes or less.

Effect of a 5% Neem Solution on the Presence of Ticks in cattle in Two Locations in Jalisco, Mexico

The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of a 5% neem extract on the presence of ticks. Forty creole cattle were used, divided into four groups: 2 experimental and 2 controls, in the towns of cocula and El chante, Jalisco. The tick count was by direct palpation, and with an acarometer (25 cm2). Eight body regions were evaluated: neck, thorax, flank and thigh, left and right. At zero time, after the initial tick count, it was applied by spraying and once, the 5% neem extract, at a dose of 10 ml/L. Ticks were quantified at 7, 14, 21, 28, 35 and 42 days post-treatment. The data were subjected to descriptive statistical analysis and Sum of Kruskal-Wallis Ranges (α = 0.05) (SigmaStat 3.1). In cocula, at zero time, the average of ticks was in neck 32, in thorax 64, in flanks 96 and in thighs 129 (average per animal 323 ticks). In subsequent sampling, the average decreased in the experimental group to 1 or 4 parasites. In “El chante”, an average of 60 ticks was found at the time of the neck, in the thorax 121, in flanks 181 and in thighs 242 (average per animal 600 ticks). In subsequent sampling, the average decreased in the experimental group, with averages of 1 to 4. Statistical differences (p ≤ 0.001) were found between the groups. It can be concluded that 5% neem extract has a repellent and tick effect in cattle for at least 42 days.

Productive Response and Reproductive Performance of Dairy cows Subjected to Different Feeding Systems

Fifty Holstein cows (2.6 ± 1.0 lactations) in early lactation (52.6 ± 16.4 days in milk) calved in autumn and producing 34.3 (±4.4) kg milk per cow·day-1 were randomly assigned for 27 weeks to one of two treatments (feeding systems) in 10 groups (pens) of 5 animals each (5 groups/treatment). The confined treatment was a total mixed ration (TMR_100) whereas the supplemented grazing system was defined by a partially mixed ration (PMR_75) with 75% TMR and 25% oat pasture (Avena sativa L.) during the autum-winter (Period I) and alfalfa pasture (Medicago sativa L.) plus concentrate (7.0 kg per cow·day-1) (P + c) during the next spring (Period II). Milk production was daily and individually recorded throughout the trial while the chemical composition of milk was measured on individual samples every 2 weeks. Live weight (LW) and body condition score (BcS) using a scale of 1 to 5 were recorded every 3 weeks after the morning milking. Simultaneously, blood samples were taken for determinations of glucose, urea, non-esterified fatty acids (NEFA), insulin, somatotrophin (GH) and somatomedin c (IGF-I). Total DM intake was measured using the difference method four times per repetition in the months of July, August, September and October. The experimental herd was inseminated at fixed time at the start of the service (May-July) and on the return with estrus detection. The diagnosis of pregnancy was made by transrectal ultrasonography at 30 and 60 days after the start of the service. The productive data were analyzed according to a model with repeated observations in time adjusted by covariate with 2 periods and using the animal as the experimental unit. Data of DM intake were analyzed using ANOVA for 2 treatments with 5 repetitions. cows from the TMR_100 group produced more milk (kg·cow-1·day-1) during Period I (33.7 vs. 32.3) and Period II (28.8 vs. 27.8) (P ·cow-1·day-1) in Periods I (1.33 vs. 1.24) and II (1.10 vs. 0.92) and for milk protein (1.19 vs. 1.13

This work presents the results of the Radon (220Rn and 222Rn) measurements made with 486 chips of cR-39 (Allyl Dyglicol Poly carbonate) MASL? bared detectors, in a reticular mode distribution, inside of a cellar with average indoor radon concentration 862 ± 49 Bq/m3. The exposure time was 3 months, in microclimate condition of constant temperature, humidity, barometric pressure and no airflow. After these 3 months, all the detectors were chemically etched in KOH 6.25 M solution at 60°c ± 1°c for 18 hours, following a very well established protocol for indoor radon survey by the Dosimetry Applications Laboratory of the Physics Institute of the National Autonomous University of Mexico, and later read automatically by cADIS (counting Automatically Digital Image System). The results show that each one of the nine measured planes is not homogeneous presenting important differences of indoor radon concentration values. Specifically, the Radon (220Rn and 222Rn) concentration levels vary for each measured point within the cellar. It is a very important observation to consider for the calculation of dose and radiological risk.
