Microclimatic parameters affect Cladosporium rot development and berry quality in table grapes

Cladosporium cladosporioides is an emerging pathogenic fungus that causes Cladosporium rot in postharvest table grapes(Vitis vinifera). However,studies investigating the infection process of C. cladosporioides are lacking. Therefore, this study aimed to elucidate the infection process by investigating the influence of microclimatic parameters(temperature, wetness and fungal age) in C. cladosporioides pathogenesis, activities of grape defense-related enzymes and grape quality during the infection. C. cladosporioides effectively infects grapes by developing distinct colonies on the artificial wounds and berry surfaces, completing its life cycle within 48 h. The C. cladosporioides disease incidence optimally occurred at 20 ℃ and 25 ℃. Wetness played an influential role in the infectivity of C. cladosporioides and 7-day-old C. cladosporioides resulted in the most serious disease incidence of table grapes. As a result of infection, the quality of grapes was affected, including berry weight, p H, titratable acidity(TA), total soluble solids(TSS), and ascorbic acid level. This infection also induced defense-related enzymes, including polyphenoloxidase(PPO), peroxidase(POD), phenylalanine ammonialyase(PAL), and catalase(CAT), at certain times. The findings of this study demonstrated that Cladosporium rot development depended on the microclimatic parameters of grapes, significantly affected the grape quality and induced grape's defense-related enzymes.

High flow rate aeroengines typically employ axial flow compressors, where aerodynamic loss is predominantly due to secondary flow features such as tip leakage and comer vortices. In very high altitude missions, turbo- machinery operates at low density ambient atmosphere, and the recent trend toward more compact engine core inevitably leads to the reduction of blade size, which in turn increases the relative height of the blade tip clearance. Low Reynolds number fiowfield as a result of these two factors amplifies the relative importance of secondary flow effects. This paper focuses on the behavior of tip leakage flow, investigating by use of both experimental and numerical approaches. In order to understand the complex secondary flow behavior, cascade tests are usually conducted using intrusive probes to determine the loss. However relatively few experimental studies are pub- lished on tip leakage flows which take into account the interaction between a rotating blade row and its casing wall. Hence a new linear cascade facility has been designed with a moving belt casing in order to reproduce more realistic flowfield as encountered by a rotating compressor row. Numerical simulations were also performed to aid in the understanding of the complex flow features. The experimental results indicate a significant difference in the flowfield when the moving belt casing is present. The numerical simulations reveal that the leakage vortex is pulled by the shearing motion of the endwall toward the pressure side of the adjacent blade. The results highlight the importance of casing wall relative motion in analyzing leakage flow effects.

In recent years, more and more manufacturers and operators of fleets of mobile systems have been focusing their efforts on studying and developing condi-tional maintenance, monitoring, and diagnostic strategies to cope with an increasingly competitive, unstable, costly, and unpredictable environment. This paper proposes a case study concerning the application of a novel event management architecture, called EMH^2, to a fleet of trains. This EMH^2 architecture, which applies the holonic paradigm, aims to facilitate the monitoring and diagnosis of a fleet of mobile systems. It is based on a recursive decomposition of cooperative monitoring holons. The definition of a generic event modeling, called SurfEvent, is the second key element of the contribution. EMH^2 has been designed to be applicable to any kind of system or equipment up to fleet level. The edge computing paradigm has been adopted for implementation purpose. The EMH^2 architecture is designed to facilitate asynchronous and progressive onboard and off-board deployments. A real-world application of EMH^2 to a fleet of ten trains cur-rently in use, in collaboration with our industrial partner, Bombardier Transport, is presented. Three key perfor-mances indicators have been estimated by comparing EMH^2 with the current industrial situation. These indi-cators are (1) the number of fleet maintenance visits,(2) the time needed by a maintenance operator to investigate and diagnose, and (3) the time needed by the system to update data regarding the health status and monitoring of trains. Results obtained outperformed industrial expecta-tions. The paper finally discusses feedbacks from experi-ence and limitations of the work.

Thanks to their outstanding mechanical properties,Bulk Metallic Glasses(BMGs)are new alternatives to traditional crystalline metals for mechanical and micromechanical applications including power ***,the tribological properties of BMGs are still poorly understood,mostly because their amorphous nature induces counter intuitive responses to friction and *** the present study,four different BMGs(Cu_(47)Zr_(46)Al_(7),Zr_(46)Cu_(45)Al_(7)Nb_(2),Zr_(60)Cu_(28)Al_(12),and Zr_(61)Cu_(25)Al_(12)Ti_(2))underwent ball-on-disc friction tests against 100Cr6 steel balls(American Iron and Steel Institute(AISI)52100)at different relative humidities(RHs)ranging from 20%to 80%.Controlling humidity enabled to observe a high repeatability of the friction and wear responses of the ***,the friction coefficient decreased by a factor of 2 when the humidity was increased,and the wear rate of BMGs was particularly low thanks to a 3rd-body tribolayer that forms on the BMG surface,composed of oxidized wear particles originating from the *** morphology of this tribolayer is highly correlated to *** study also identifies how the tribolayer is built up from the initial contact until the steady state is achieved.

A Low-Cost, Portable Optical Sensing System With Wireless Communication Compatible of Real-Time and Remote Detection of Dissolved Ammonia

A low-cost and portable optical chemical sensor based ammonia sensing system that is capable of detecting dissolved ammonia up to 5 ppm is presented. In the system, an optical chemical sensor is designed and fabricated for sensing dissolved ammonia concentrations. The sensor uses eosin as the fluorescence dye which is immobilized on the glass substrate by a gas-permeable protection layer. A compact module is developed to hold the optical components, and a battery powered micro-controller system is designed to read out and process the data measured. The system operates without the requirement of laboratory instruments that makes it cost effective and highly portable. Moreover, the calculated results in the system can be transmitted to a PC wirelessly, which allows the remote and real-time monitoring of dissolved ammonia.

In precision agriculture,the accurate segmentation of crops and weeds in agronomic images has always been the center of *** methods have been proposed but still the clean and sharp segmentation of crops and weeds is a challenging issue for the images with a high presence of *** work proposes a segmentation method based on the combination of semantic segmentation and K-means algorithms for the segmenta-tion of crops and weeds in color *** images of two different databases were used for the segmentation *** the thresholding technique,everything except plants was removed from the ***,semantic segmentation was applied using U-net followed by the segmentation of crops and weeds using the K-means subtractive *** comparison of segmentation performance was made for the proposed method and K-Means clustering and superpixels *** proposed algorithm pro-vided more accurate segmentation in comparison to other methods with the maximum accuracy of equivalent to 99.19%.Based on the confusion matrix,the true-positive and true-negative values were 0.9952 and 0.8985 representing the true classification rate of crops and weeds,*** results indicated that the proposed method successfully provided accurate and convincing results for the segmentation of crops and weeds in the images with a complex presence of weeds.
