Marigold(Tagetes erecta): The Poten.ial Value in.the Phytoremediation.of Chromium

En.iron.en.al pollution.with chromium （Cr） is harmful to human., an.mals an. plan.s, while in.plan.s it causes dimin.shed growth, an.tomical alteration. an. death. In.the presen. study, the poten.ial value of marigold （Tagetes erecta） in.the phytoremediation.of Cr has been.in.estigated. The ran.omized experimen.al design.in.olved the exposure of plan.s to n.trien. solution. con.ain.n. 0.00, 0.04, 0.08, 0.12, 0.16 or 0.24 mmol L-1 Cr（III）. Chromium toxicity was observed at Cr（III） con.en.ration. ≥ 0.12 mmol L-1 as demon.trated by dimin.shed growth of the aerial parts an. reduced den.ity of the root system. In.reasin. Cr（III） con.en.ration. in.the n.trien. solution.resulted in.a higher bioaccumulation.of total Cr in.the tissues, although tran.location.from roots to aerial parts was n.t efficien. （maximum value of 25% at 0.12 mmol L-1 Cr（III））. The Cr bioaccumulation.was up to 11-fold greater in.roots than.in.the aerial parts. Tagetes erecta exhibited leaf plasticity when.exposed to Cr, in.icatin. the existen.e of a toleran.e mechan.sm to Cr in.this species. Chromium caused a reduction.in.xilem vases, resultin. in.a plastic effect in.T. erecta leaves that in.reased the metal toleran.e in.culture solution. Tagetes spp. are poten.ial Cr hyperaccumulators; at Cr（III） con.en.ration. up to 0.12 mmol L-1, the plan.s accumulated levels above that proposed for hyperaccumulators an. still main.ain.d a con.iderable growth an. even.flourished. However, this study was con.ucted in.n.trien. solution. an. studies on.species con.irmation.as Cr hyperaccumulator should be con.ucted in.soils for further clarification.

We determin.d whether the in.lusion.of 100 g/kg dry matter of grape pomace silage (GPS) an. grape pomace bran.(GPB) as substitutes for other tradition.l fiber sources in.the diet of steers (Charolais x n.llore) would improve carcass characteristics, meat quality an. composition. an. shelf life. Twen.y-four an.mals (248 ± 19.32 kg of in.tial body weight) were fed a high con.en.rate diet for 121 days. Carcass characteristics were measured, an. the lon.issimus dorsi muscle was an.lyzed for fatty acid (FA) profile an. composition. The meat was sliced an. stored in.air-permeable packages for 10 days. On.each samplin. day (d 1, 3, 7, an. 10), oxidative stability, bacterial load, lipid an. protein.oxidation. an. stain.n. were an.lyzed. The experimen.al diets in.luen.ed the pH of cold carcasses on.y. The GPS group had a higher pH than.the con.rol. The GPS an. GPB groups showed improved oxidan. status (i.e., lower lipid peroxidation.an. con.en.ration. of reactive oxygen.species were in.the meat of both groups than.in.con.rol). On.the first day of storage, the an.ioxidan. en.yme glutathion. S-tran.ferase activity was more sign.fican. in.the meat of the GPS an. GPB groups than.in.the con.rol. The bacterial loads in.the meat were atten.ated by GPS in.lusion.there were lower total coliform coun.s an. a tren. toward lower coun.s for en.erobacteria in.the con.rol group. The diets altered the FA profile of the meat;i.e., the GPB diet allowed for a more sign.fican. amoun. of the n.6 omegas in.the meat, while the GPS diet showed a ten.en.y for a more sign.fican. amoun. of n.6 an. 9 omegas. Both diets (GPS an. GPB) in.reased the amoun.s of lon.-chain.FAs. The GPS diet decreased saturated FA levels. We con.lude that the dietary treatmen.s GPS an. GPB are a promisin. altern.tive to main.ain.meat quality stan.ards throughout in.real-world retail con.ition.. The scien.e space in.a state school in.n.tal city was built usin. a composite con.istin. of gypsum, EPS （expan.ed polystyren.）, shredded tire, cemen. an. water. Mechan.cal an. thermal resistan.es were evaluated. In.ide the blocks, three types of fillin.s （EPS plates, alumin.m can. an. 500 mL bottles of min.ral water） were placed in.order to obtain.a walls with higher thermal resistan.e, but also to give it an.ecologically correct order, con.iderin. that both the tire an. the EPS occupy a large space in.lan.fills an. require years to be degraded when.released in.o the en.iron.en.. Compression.tests were con.ucted accordin. to the rules. The experimen.s demon.trated that the temperature differen.e between.the in.ern.l an. extern.l surfaces on.the walls reached levels above 12.0 ℃. It was also demon.trated that the proposed composite has adequate mechan.cal stren.th to be used for sealin. walls. The proposed use of the composite can.con.ribute to reduce the sign.fican. housin. deficit of Brazil, producin. popular houses at low cost an. with little time to work.

The results observed in.the literature raise the hypothesis accordin. to which cytokin.n.plays importan. roles in.photosyn.hetic metabolisms an. an.ioxidan. en.ymes. Thus, the study aimed to evaluate the effect of foliar application.of the isolated cytokin.n.kin.tin.at the production.cycle, seekin. to an.lyze its effects on.en.yme activity an. photosyn.hetic parameters. The plan.s treated with CK presen.ed reduction.of leaf CO_2 assimilation.rate(Pn. an. stomatal con.uctan.e(Gs), while that tran.piration.rate(Tr) was un.ffected. The in.ern.l CO_2 con.en.ration. decreased with the in.rease in.cytokin.n.levels, but were main.ain.d un.er CK 50 mg·L^(-1). The plan.s treated with CK 75 mg·L^(-1) was verified higher carboxylation.efficien.y(Pn.Ci), which was associated to values of CO_2 assimilation.an. tran.piration.un.ltered. Apparen. electron.tran.port rate showed variation. in.the con.en.ration.of 25 mg·L^(-1). Con.iderin. the study of en.yme activity, on.the other han., it can.ot be stated that kin.tin.has an.effective action.in.delayin. oxidative damage. It presen.s mixed results, sin.e an.efficien.y in.the application.of cytokin.n.was n.t observed, presen.in. in.uction.levels of ascorbate peroxidase activity. Thus, further research is n.eded to determin. more precisely the effects of kin.tin.on.gas exchan.e an. an.ioxidan. en.ymes in.an.hurium plan.s.
