Therapeutic Properties of Flavonoids in Treatment of Cancer through Autophagic Modulation:A Systematic Review

Highly Dynamic Polynuclear Metal Cluster Revealed in a Single Metallothionein Molecule

Human metallothionein(MT)is a small-size yet efficient metal-binding protein,playing an essential role in metal homeostasis and heavy metal *** contains two domains,each forming a polynuclear metal cluster with an exquisite hexatomic ring *** apoprotein is intrinsically disordered,which may strongly influence the clusters and the metal-thiolate(M-S)bonds,leading to a highly dynamic ***,these features are challenging to identify due to the transient nature of these *** individual signal from dynamic conformations with different states of the cluster and M-S bond will be averaged and blurred in classic ensemble *** circumvent these problems,we combined a single-molecule approach and multiscale molecular simulations to investigate the rupture mechanism and chemical stability of the metal cluster by a single MT molecule,focusing on the Zn4S11 cluster in theαdomain upon *** multiple unfolding pathways and intermediates are observed for both domains,corresponding to different combinations of M-S bond *** of the pathways is clearly preferred suggesting that unfolding proceeds from the distribution of protein conformational substates with similar M-S bond *** indicate that the metal cluster may rearrange,forming and breaking metal-thiolate bonds even when MT is folded independently of large protein backbone ***,a highly dynamic polynuclear metal cluster with multiple conformational states is revealed in MT,responsible for the binding promiscuity and diverse cellular functions of this metal-carrier protein.

Clinical outcomes after intrastromal corneal ring segments reoperation in keratoconus patients

AIM:To evaluate the clinical outcomes after Ferrara intrastromal corneal ring segments(ICRS)reoperation in patients with ***:A total of 37 keratoconus eyes implanted with intrastromal corneal ring segments,which had an ICRS exchange,addition,reposition or removal were *** visual acuity(UCVA),best corrected visual acuity(BCVA),keratometry(K),asphericity(Q)and pachymetry at the thinnest point(PTP)of the cornea were evaluated using a corneal tomography(Oculus Pentacam,USA)ResULTS:The mean follow-up time after the reoperation was 30.5±9.7 *** mean UCVA improved from 20/300 to 20/80(P=0.005);the mean BCVA improved from 20/160 to 20/50(P=0.0002),the mean keratometry reduced from 49.33±4.19D to 46.16±3.90D(P=0.0001),the mean pachymetry at the thinnest point increased from 450±42.9μm to 469±40.8μm(P=0.0001).The asphericity increased from-0.84±0.74 to-0.35±0.81(P=0.15)and the spherical equivalent reduced from-4.64±4.87D to-3.04±3.45D(P=0.137).The changes in the asphericity and spherical equivalent were not statistically ***:Ferrara ICRS implantation showed to be a reversible and readjustable surgical procedure for keratoconus *** outcomes can be obtained even after removal,addition,reposition or exchange of ICRS.

Characterization of Read/Write Head Shield Asperities in Hard Disk Drives

A new way to characterize asperities on metallic surfaces at the nanometer scale is proposed. Asperities are often treated using conventional statistical descriptors such as average and root mean square roughness, which do not provide adequate mechanistic insight into surface defect formation and mitigation. The new rationale revolves around developing a mathematical description of the evolution of the area occupied by asperities at each height slice on a topography image, with direct implications on how asperity instances are tracked and their risk of breakage leading to potential exposure and degradation of the metal surface upon thermo-mechanical stresses during the operation of read/write heads is assessed. The technique was shown to be disruptive by surpassing all other surface quality metrics, such as conventional roughness and static area % asperity at 0.5 nm height, in its ability to statistically differentiate surfaces coming from various manufacturing process iterations tailored to produce different surface conditions in the hard disk drive industry. A theoretical formulation proposing that the static asperity technique is fundamentally insufficient, is presented and validated experimentally.

Red Rice Control and Soybean Tolerance to <i>S</i>-Metolachlor in Association with Glyphosate

Red rice is one of the major troublesome and difficult weeds to control in rice production regions. The introduction of the Clearfield® technology allowed producers to control red rice using rice genotypes tolerant to the imidazolinone herbicides. However, because the consecutive use of this technology red rice biotypes have evolved resistance to imidazolinone herbicides, the rice-soybean rotation has been an alternative used by producers to control this weed. This system allows the use of herbicides with different modes of action to control red rice, such as S-metolachlor. Thus, greenhouse and field experiments were carried out during the 2011 to 2012 and 2012 to 2013 growing seasons to evaluate: 1) sensitivity of imidazolinone-resistant red rice to S-metolachlor;2) red rice control and soybean tolerance in response to associations of S-metolachlor and glyphosate. In greenhouse, S-metolachlor effectively controlled both susceptible and imidazolinone-resistant red rice in preemergence. In field, preemergence applications of S-metolachlor provided greater red rice control in comparison to S-metolachlor alone in early postemergence. The association of S-metolachlor with glyphosate did not improve red rice control in preemergence application. However, association of S-metolachlor with glyphosate significantly improved red rice control in early postemergence applications. S-metolachlor injury to soybean increased with early postemergence applications. These results indicate that S-metolachlor effectively control imidazolinone-resistant red rice in rice-soybean rotation.

Reviewing Design References with Diagrams： A Metropolitan Performance Assessment Perspective

The announcement of major sporting events scheduled to take place in Rio de Janeiro in the coming years is now producing several radical urban transformations that are attracting the attention of renowned architects of the international circuit. All this is happening in a city where relevant architectural references have not been produced for a long while because of the prolonged economic crisis of the past. Despite these conditions, people were able to detect “invisible” design lessons to be learned in this city by sharing perceptual experiences with foreign observers who are, by definition, unaware of their preconceptions. This paper deals with the development of a strategy for re-presenting design references that are locally rooted and accessible for direct embodied experience. The strategy put forward a MPI （metropolitan performance index） drawn out from a bibliographical survey coupled with analytical spatial diagrams of different case-studies presented as a tour guide for the recognition of the architecture produced in Rio de Janeiro. It is believed that this strategy can favor the adoption of an eye attuned to contemporary theories especially interested in the spatial and programmatic concerns that today instigate the designer.

PED Flex with Shield Technology:a feasible alternative for fusiform MCA aneurysms

BACKGROUND The advent of flow diverters(FDs)has changed the scope of endovascular treatment options for intracranial aneurysms(IAs).FDs can effectively treat complex aneurysms in which both microsurgical and conventional endovascular options are less than ideal.12 The Pipeline Flex Embolization Device(PED;Medtronic,Irvine,California,USA)has been available in the USA for several years demon-strating positive *** recently,the PED Flex with enhanced delivery features has been introduced,and although decreased,thromboembolic complications are still a potential risk.3 In light of this,a new surface modification was applied to the PED Flex known as Shield Technology consisting of a phosphorylcholine layer covalently bound to its metal braids potentially reducing its thrombogenicity.4 Herein,we report our initial experience using the PED Flex with Shield Technology in the treatment of an unruptured fusiform aneurysm located in the middle cerebral artery(MCA)using dual-an-tiplatelet therapy.

Development and validation of a morphological model for multiple sediment classes

The complexity of sediment dynamics in aquatic systems can be better understood by applying numerical models. The development of a comprehensive morphological model is presented in this *** model aims to predict the sediment transport and bed evolution in natural systems composed of different sediment types. The morphological model was implemented in MOHID, a modelling system that solves the three-dimensional hydrodynamics and advection-diffusion transport of suspended sediments. Multiple sediment classes were taken into account(non-cohesive and cohesive) considering the effects of sediment mixtures and bed consolidation on resistance to erosion. To represent bottom stratigraphy, the bottom column can be divided into several layers. The key points of the simulated processes are discussed in this paper. Model results are assessed in six test cases through comparison with analytic solutions or experimental data. The outcomes demonstrate the model's capacity to simulate the transport dynamics of non-cohesive and cohesive sediments. The speed up of morphological changes by an acceleration factor permitted modelling bed evolution for long time ***, a test case for the Tagus estuary demonstrated the model's capacity for generating realistic sediment distribution based on the local hydrodynamic conditions. Limitations in the availability of bed composition data can be overcome by considering a warm-up run to provide realistic initial conditions for further predictions of morphological developments.
