Endoscopic vs radiologic gastrostomy for enteral feeding:A systematic review and meta-analysis

Virulence Factor Profile of Staphylococcus aureus Isolated from Bovine Milk from Brazil

This study investigates the biofilm formation, presence and distribution of virulence genes and the capacity to induce an inflammatory response in strains of Staphylococcus aureus isolated from milk samples in Bahia, Brazil. A total of 132 samples of raw milk were collected from four dairy farms (designated A to D) located in southwestern Bahia, in the municipality of Vitória da Conquista, from October/2009 to September/2010. After processing of the samples, 94 (71.2%) S. aureus isolates were obtained. These strains were subjected to the antibiogram method MIC (Minimum Inhibitory Concentration). As for the pathogenicity, tests were performedin vitrobiofilm formation induced by glucose. Moreover, we performed PCR for their virulence genes: sea (enterotoxin A), seb (B), sec (C), pvl (Panton-Valentine Leukocidin), clfA (Clumping Factor A) and spa (protein A) and analysis of cytokine induction in the inflammatory response of J774 macrophages by exocellular lipoteichoic acid. No isolates were resistant to oxacillin and vancomycin. In biofilm production, 5.31% (5/94) isolates did not produce biofilm, 5.31% (5/94) of the samples were poor producers, 15.96% (15/94) strains were moderate producers, 18.09% (17/94) were producers and 55.32% (55/94) of isolates were strong biofilm producers. One (1.06%) isolate expressed the seb gene, one (1.06%) sec, 18 (19.2%) cflA and 44 (46.8%) had spa. There was no expression of sea and pvl between isolates analyzed. The analysis of cytokine induction in the inflammatory response did not show statistical difference in the levels of IL-6, TNF-α and IL-10 induction. However, there was statistical difference in IL-1 induction between isolates from different farms. Dynamic Analysis of Steel Platforms When Subjected to Mechanical Equipment-Induced Vibrations

The competitive trends of the world market have long been forcing structural engineers to develop minimum weight and labour cost solutions. A direct consequence of this new design trend has been a considerable increase in problems related to undesired floor vibrations. For this reason, structural floor systems can become vulnerable to excessive vibrations that are produced by, for example, impacts due to mechanical equipment （e.g., rotating machinery）. This study investigates the dynamic behaviour of a production platform constructed of steel and located in the santos Basin （Merluza field）, Sao Paulo/SP, Brazil, when subjected to impacts produced by mechanical equipment （rotating machinery）. The structural model consists of two steel decks with a total area of 1,915 m^2 （upper deck： 445 m^2, lower deck： 1,470 m^2） and supported by piles. A numerical analysis is performed to assess the dynamic impacts on the deck structure originating from the electrical generators and compressors. Based on the peak acceleration values obtained for the structure steady-state response, it is possible to evaluate the structural model performance in terms of human comfort, the maximum tolerances of the mechanical equipment and the vibration serviceability limit states of the structure.

Background: Alzheimer’s disease is a progressive and neurodegenerative disorder characterized by deterioration of brain functions. Psychosocial interventions such as music and photographic stimuli may contribute to cognitive and sensory exercise or rehabilitation. Objective: Evaluate musical and photographic stimuli in elderly people with Alzheimer’s disease. Methods: It is an uncontrolled clinical trial, before-after type, eleven subjects composing the sample. Participants were submitted to Katz Index, Autobiographical Memory Test, GDS-15, Mini-Mental State Examination. The collection instruments were used on the first and last day of intervention, individually. There were 2 sessions in the week with duration of 50 minutes totaling 20 sessions. Data were analyzed by descriptive and inferential statistics and as variables expressed as mean standard deviation. Results: There was a significant effect of cognitive activity (P , it was observed that a small advance (P = 0.05) of the daily life activities. With the analysis of GDS-15, it is verified that they are more effective for the increase of the previous self-estimation of the therapy (P = 0.94). In the application of the AMT, it is observed that there was a better recruitment of the memory for the neutral words. Conclusion: Musical and photographic stimuli had a positive effect on the cognitive level, daily life activities and autobiographical memory in seniors with Alzheimer’s disease.
