Chemical Activation of S/li2S in li-S Batteries by a Bidirectional Organic Redox Mediator

The energy density and lifespan of prototype li-S batteries under high sulfur loading and lean electrolyte have been mainly restricted by the incomplete interconversion between insulating S8 and li2S. The introduction of an electrocatalyst has been preserved as an effective way to breakthrough the bottleneck of the interconversion rate. Herein, we demonstrate a novel bidirectional redox mediator, insoluble dithiobisphthalimide (DTPI), as the electrocatalyst for both S8 reduction and li2S oxidation. Due to the dual-functional role of both electron/li+ donor and acceptor, DTPI can efficiently accelerate the redox reactions during charge/discharge and significantly alleviate the incomplete conversion of sulfur species. Consequently, the li-S batteries with DTPI deliver superior specific capacity and cycling stability in comparison with those without DTPI. Especially, the redox mediator is scalable for synthesis and the DTPI-based 5 Ah pouch cell delivers a specific discharge capacity of around 870 mAhg(-1) at 0.1 C (1 C=1675 mA/g) without capacity fading over 80 cycles. The bidirectional catalysis mechanism has been studied through theoretical calculation and ex-situ characterization of the cathode materials. This work approves the effectiveness of bidirectional organic redox mediator in the construction of practical li-S batteries.

DEAR EDITOR, In this study, we sequenced the complete mitochondrial DNA genome （mitogenome） of the Zhengyang Yellow chicken （Gallus gallus domesticus） by next-generation sequencing technology. Samples were taken from Zhumadian city, Henan Province, China. The complete mitogenome was 16 785 bp in size, and had a nucleotide composition of 30.3% （A）, 23.7% （T） 32.5% （C）, and 13.5% （G）, with a high AT content of 54.0%. The assembled mitogenome exhibited typical mitochondrial DNA （mtDNA） structure, including a non-coding control region, two rRNA genes, 13 protein-coding genes, and 22 tRNA genes. Phylogenetic analysis indicated that this mitogenome defined a novel sub-haplogroup B3 within haplogroup B. These results should provide essential information for chicken domestication and insiqht into the evolution of genomes.

Understanding the processes of immune regulation in patients infected with the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)is crucial for improving ***,we performed longitudinal whole-transcriptome RNA sequencing on peripheral blood mononuclear cell(PBMC)samples from 18 patients with coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)during their treatment,convalescence,and *** analyzing the regulatory networks of differentially expressed messenger RNAs(mRNAs),microRNAs(miRNAs)and long non-coding RNAs(lncRNAs)between the different clinical stages,we found that humoral immunity and type I interferon response were significantly downregulated,while robust T-cell activation and differentiation at the whole transcriptome level constituted the main events that occurred during recovery from *** formation of this T cell immune response might be driven by the activation of activating protein-1(AP-1)related signaling pathway and was weakly affected by other clinical *** findings uncovered the dynamic pattern of immune responses and indicated the key role of T cell immunity in the creation of immune protection against this disease.

The hexagonal BaNd x Fe12?x O19(x=0.1?1.0) fine powders with M-type structure were synthesized by sol-gel auto-combustion high-temperature synthesis method. The structure of powders, gels’ combustion and magnetic properties of powders were respectively studied by means of X-ray diffractometer (XRD), differential thermal analysis-thermogravimetric analysis (DTA-TG) and vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM). The powders before and after combustion and calcination at 450–850 °C with different mole ratio of Nd to Ba (0.1–1.0) were compared in terms of XRD. In addition, the effects of different synthesis conditions on magnetic properties of powders were also discussed. The results show that at pH 7.0 or so, mole ratio of citrate to nitrate (1–3) and calcination temperature of 850 °C for 1 h, M-type BaNd x Fe12?x O19(x=0.1?1.0) fine powders can be obtained, and the coercive force reaches 436880 A·m?1 at x=1, which is far greater than that of barium permanent ferrite (BaFe12O19).

Study on Effectiveness of Solitary-Wave-like Form Based on Overtopping Data from Irregular Wave Tests

The previous study conducted by li(2022)demonstrates that the Goda graph can be adequately represented by a solitary-wave-like form across the entire range of relative water depth,with the exception of the extremely shallow ***,it remains uncertain whether this form is equally effective when applied to test data generated by irregular waves,as the Goda graph was initially developed based on overtopping data from regular wave ***,it is unclear whether this form is suitable for formulating overtopping discharge at composite vertical *** order to address these questions,a 2D overtopping experiment was conducted,incorporating both simple and composite types of vertical walls,with various relative water depths across the entire range,excluding the extremely shallow zone.A novel analysis procedure was developed,which proved to be highly productive and can be considered a general method for data ***,the study yielded two conclusions:(1)the solitary-wave-like form is remarkably effective in formulating overtopping test data generated by irregular waves,regardless of whether the vertical wall is simple or composite,and(2)the resulting formulas exhibit definitely better performance compared with existing formulas.

The development of energy storage devices with high energy density relies heavily on thick film electrodes,but it is challenging due to the limited ion transport kinetics inherent in thick ***,we report on the preparation of a directional vertical array of micro-porous transport networks on LTO electrodes using a femtosecond laser processing strategy,enabling directional ion rapid transport and achieving good electrochemical performance in thick film *** three-dimensional(3D)vertically aligned micro-pore networks are innovatively designed,and the structure,kinetics characteristics,and electrochemical performance of the prepared ion transport channels are analyzed and discussed by multiple characterization and testing ***,the rational mechanisms of electrode performance improvement are studied experimentally and simulated from two aspects of structural mechanics and transmission *** ion diffusion coefficient,rate performance at 60 C,and electrode interface area of the laser-optimized 60-15%micro-porous transport network electrodes increase by 25.2 times,2.2 times,and 2.15 times,respectively than those of untreated ***,the preparation of 3D micro-porous transport networks by femtosecond laser on ultra-thick electrodes is a feasible way to develop high-energy *** addition,the unique micro-porous transport network structure can be widely extended to design and explore other high-performance energy materials.

Side reactions and dendrite growth triggered by the unstable interface and inhomogeneous deposition have become the biggest obstacle to the commercialization for lithium metal *** this study,a highly-chlorinated organic-inorganic hybrid interfacial protective layer is developed by rationally tuning the interfacial passivation and robustness to achieve the convenient and efficient li metal *** polyvinyl chloride(PVC)can effectively resist water and oxygen,which is confirmed by density functional *** organic-dominant solid electrolyte interphases(SEI)with lithium chloride are investigated by the X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS)with little mineralization of oxide,such as li_(2)O and li_(2)CO_(3).With such artificial SEI,a uniform and dense lithium deposition morphology are formed and an ultra-long stable cycle of over 500 h are achieved even at an ultra-high current density of 10 m A/cm^(2).Moreover,the simple and convenient protected anode also exhibits excellent battery stability when paired with the liNi_(0.8)Co_(0.1)Mn_(0.1)O_(2)(NCM811)and liFePO_(4)(LFP)cathode,showing great potential for the commercial application of lithium metal batteries.
