As a leading cause of cancer deaths worldwide, lung cancer is a collection of diseases with diverse etiologies which can be broadly classified into small-cell lung cancer （SCLC） and non-small-cell lung cancer （NSCLC）. Lung cancer is characterized by genomic and epigenomic alterations; however, mechanisms underlying lung tumorigenesis remain to be elucidated. Long noncoding RNAs （lncRNAs） are a group of non-coding RNAs that consist of ≥ 200 nucleotides but possess low or no protein-coding potential. Accumulating evidence indicates that abnormal expression of lncRNAs is associated with tumorigenesis of various cancers, including lung cancer, through multiple biological mechanisms involving epigenetic, transcriptional, and post-transcriptional alterations. In this review, we highlight the expression and roles of lncRNAs in NSCLC and discuss their potential clinical applications as diagnostic or prognostic biomarkers, as well as therapeutic targets.

Yu et al.[1]reported that the tumor necrosis factor(TNF)receptor OX40(CD134)-TNF receptor-associated factor 6(TRAF6)axis mediates Lys63-linked ubiquitination and subsequent lysosomal degradation of cytotoxic T-lymphocyte antigen 4(CTLA-4),leading to the enhancement of CD8^(+)T-cell-mediated antitumor *** findings unveil a previously unknown mechanism in controlling the stability of the immune checkpoint CTLA-4 and provide a potential therapeutic target for the improvement of Tcell-based immunotherapy.

Thalidomide inducesγ-globin expression in erythroid progenitor cells,but its efficacy on patients with transfusion-dependentβ-thalassemia(TDT)remains *** this phase 2,multi-center,randomized,double-blind clinical trial,we aimed to determine the safety and efficacy of thalidomide in TDT patients.A hundred patients of 14 years or older were randomly assigned to receive placebo or thalidomide for 12 weeks,followed by an extension phase of at least 36 *** primary endpoint was the change of hemoglobin(Hb)level in the *** secondary endpoints included the red blood cell(RBC)units transfused and adverse *** the placebo-controlled period,Hb concentrations in patients treated with thalidomide achieved a median elevation of 14.0(range,2.5 to 37.5)g/L,whereas Hb in patients treated with placebo did not significantly *** the 12 weeks,the mean RBC transfusion volume for patients treated with thalidomide and placebo was 5.4±5.0 U and 10.3±6.4 U,respectively(P<0.001).Adverse events of drowsiness,dizziness,fatigue,pyrexia,sore throat,and rash were more common with thalidomide than *** the extension phase,treatment with thalidomide for 24 weeks resulted in a sustainable increase in Hb concentrations which reached 104.9±19.0 g/L,without blood *** increase in Hb concentration and reduction in RBC transfusions were associated with nonβ0/β0 and HBS1L-MYB(rs9399137 C/T,C/C;rs4895441 A/G,G/G)*** results demonstrated that thalidomide is effective in patients with TDT.

Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM)has been widelyand successfully used in treating illnesses ranging frominflammation to cancer,and compounds from medicinalherbs and minerals are playing more and more importantroles in taming various kinds of diseases[1],exemplifiedby artemisinin and arsenic trioxide(ATO).Artemisinin(or Qinghaosu in Chinese)is isolated from a plant calledsweet wormwood(Artemisia annua;or Qinghao in Chi-nese)which has been used as an antipyretic remedy formore than 1500 years in *** has impressiveparasiticidal properties in vitro and in vivo,and is now oneof the most important class of antimalarial agents[2,3].ATO is a common,naturally occurring substance whichhad been used in China for a long time as a therapeuticagent for some severe diseases with the ancient philosophyof'treating an evil with a toxic'[4].In 1990s,ATO wasshown to be able to cause partial differentiation at low doseand apoptosis at high concentration of acute promyelocyticleukemia(APL)cells[5],and induce complete remissionin 90% of patients with relapsed or refractory APL[6-8].

This study investigated the effect of 0.25 wt%Sc addition on the microstructure and mechanical properties of AA 7055 *** addition of Sc obviously refined the grains of AA 7055 alloy during casting,homogenizing,rolling,solution,and aging treatments due to the formation of primary and precipitate Al3(Sc,Zr)*** recrystallization and precipitation of AA 7055 alloy were inhibited during heat treatments by Sc *** Sccontaining AA 7055 alloy exhibited higher thermal stability than AA 7055 alloy during homogenizing treatment,because of the grain boundary pinning effect of nano-sized Al3(Sc,Zr)*** its structure characteristics such as fine grains,fineη′phase,and lessηphase,AA 7055 alloy with added Sc showed good mechanical properties after aging at 120℃for 24 h,with an ultimate tensile strength(UTS)of 679 MPa and elongation(EL)of 14%.This work provides an effective strategy to fabricate AlZn-Mg(-Cu)series(7 xxx)alloys with excellent mechanical properties.
