Surfaces of amplitude 1 in the ordinary projective space are of the general type, but this need not be the case in weighted projective spaces. Indeed, there are 4 classes of quasi-smooth weighted hypersurfaces in p（1, 2, a, b） of amplitude 1 with an elliptic pencil cut out by hyperplanes. Their moduli spaces are constructed,and the monodromy of their universal families is determined as well as their period maps which turn out to be generally immersive. For those that are not, a mixed Torelli theorem holds. We added an application to certain compactifications of moduli spaces of surfaces of the general type with K2= 1, pg= 2 and q = 0 as a follow up of Gallardo et al.（2022）, as well as detailed SageMath-calculations. The appendix written by Wim Nijgh shows that the general member of the types 1 and 2 elliptic family has a “trivial” picard lattice, i.e., is spanned by fiber components and a multisection.

This study investigated the impact of different ratios of soluble to insoluble dietary fiber (SDF:IDF) formulations by sugar beet pulp (SBp) supplementation on piglet growth performance, nutrient digestibility, immune function, intestinal morphology, intestinal microbiota and intestinal health. A total of 60 crossbred piglets (Duroc x [Landrace x Yorkshire]) at 40 d old with body weight of 10.0 +/- 0.3 kg were randomly assigned to 5 treatments with 6 replicates per treatment and 2 piglets per replicate in a 21d trial. The dietary treatments included a corn-soybean meal diet (0% SBp supplementation; CON), and diets supplemented with 2%, 4%, 6%, and 8% SBp, representing different SDF:IDF ratios at 10.16%, 13.53%, 16.79%, 19.86%, and 24.81%, respectively. The results indicated that the 8% SBp treatment had a negative effect on feed-to-gain ratio (linear, p = 0.009) compared with the CON treatment (p = 0.021). The apparent total tract digestibility (ATTD) of crude protein was lower in treatments supplemented with SBp (p = 0.002) and showed a linear decrease (p = 0.001), while the ATTD of IDF showed a linear increase (p = 0.037) in four SBp treatments compared to the CON treatment. The 4% SBp treatment increased serum concentrations of triglyceride (quadratic, p = 0.019) and K (linear, p p = 0.015) compared with the CON treatment. Abstract Male body size can play an important role in the mating systems of anuran amphibians. We conducted labora- tory-based trials with cane toads Rhinella （Bufo） marina from an invasive population in the wet-dry tropics of northern Australia, to clarify the effects of a male＇s body size on his reproductive success and behavior （mate choice）. Males were stimulated with a synthetic hormone to induce reproductive readiness. Larger body size enhanced a male toad＇s ability to displace a smaller rival from amplexus, apparently because of physical strength： more force was required to dislodge a larger than a smaller amplectant male. A male＇s body size also affected his mate-choice criteria. Males of all body sizes were as likely to attempt amplexus with another male as with a female of the same size, and preferred larger rather than smaller sexual targets. However, this size prefe- rence was stronger in larger males and hence, amplexus was size-assortative. This pattern broke down when males were given access to already-amplectant male-female pairs： males of all body sizes readily attempted amplexus with the pair, with no size discrimination. An amplectant pair provides a larger visual stimulus, and prolonged amplexus provides a strong cue for sex iden- tification （one of the individuals involved is almost certainly a female）. Thus, a male cane toad＇s body size affects both his ability to defeat rivals in physical struggles over females, and the criteria he uses when selecting potential mates, but the impacts of that selectivity depend upon the context in which mating occurs

To critically review the literature addressing the definition, epidemiology, aetiology and pathophysiology of acute colonic pseudo-obstruction (ACpO). METHODSA systematic search was performed to identify articles investigating the aetiology and pathophysiology of ACpO. A narrative synthesis of the evidence was undertaken. RESULTSNo consistent approach to the definition or reporting of ACpO has been developed, which has led to overlapping investigation with other conditions. A vast array of risk factors has been identified, supporting a multifactorial aetiology. The pathophysiological mechanisms remain unclear, but are likely related to altered autonomic regulation of colonic motility, in the setting of other predisposing factors. CONCLUSIONFuture research should aim to establish a clear and consistent definition of ACpO, and elucidate the pathophysiological mechanisms leading to altered colonic function. An improved understanding of the aetiology of ACpO may facilitate the development of targeted strategies for its prevention and treatment.

Astrocytes, glial cells that interact extensively with neurons and other support cells throughout the central nervous system, have recently come under the spotlight for their potential contribution to, or potential regenerative role in a host of neurodegenerative disorders. It is becoming increasingly clear that astrocytes, in concert with microglial cells, activate intrinsic immunological pathways in the setting of neurodegenerative injury, although the direct and indirect consequences of such activation are still largely unknown. We review the current literature on the astrocyte’s role in several neurodegenerative diseases, as well as highlighting recent advances in genetic manipulation of astrocytes that may prove critical to modulating their response to neurological injury, potentially combatting neurodegenerative damage.
