w. applied spatial analytical models to compare w.th traditional design model using tw. progeny trials of Pinus radiata data set in Australia. The analysis show.d that spatial model w.th tw. dimensions (AR1xAR1) w.s better than the design model. The spatial model w.th independent error (AR1η) w.s even better than the above tw. models. Also, there w.re significant impacts on the genetic variance w.en using combined model. The variograms of residuals and surface maps show.d the spatial patterns presented in tw. sample sites. Combined model is recommended to enable improved analysis of experimental data, and provides abundant genetic and environmental information.

Background: Polyamines stimulate DNA transcription and m RNA translation for protein synthesis in trophectoderm cells, as w.ll as proliferation and migration of cells; therefore, they are essential for development and survival of conceptuses(embryo/fetus and placenta). The ovine conceptus produces polyamines via classical and non-classical pathw.ys. In the classical pathw.y, arginine(Arg) is transformed into ornithine, w.ich is then decarboxylated by ornithine decarboxylase(ODC1) to produce putrescine w.ich is the substrate for the production of spermidine and spermine. In the non-classical pathw.y, Arg is converted to agmatine(Agm) by arginine decarboxylase(ADC), and Agm is converted to putrescine by agmatinase(AGMAT).Methods: Morpholino antisense oligonucleotides(MAOs) w.re designed and synthesized to inhibit translational initiation of the m RNAs for ODC1 and ADC, in ovine ***: The morphologies of MAO control, MAO-ODC1, and MAO-ADC conceptuses w.re normal. Double knockdow. of ODC1 and ADC(MAO-ODC1:ADC) resulted in tw. phenotypes of conceptuses; 33% of conceptuses appeared to be morphological y and functional y normal(phenotype a) and 67% of the conceptuses presented an abnormal morphology and functionality(phenotype b). Furthermore, MAO-ODC1:ADC(a) conceptuses had greater tissue concentrations of Agm,putrescine, and spermidine than MAO control conceptuses, w.ile MAO-ODC1:ADC(b) conceptuses only had greater tissue concentrations of Agm. The potential for using imidacloprid （a neonicotinoid） and indoxacarb （an oxadiazine） as grain protectants w.s investigated in bioassays against resistant strains of five stored grain beetles. The species investigated w.re Rhyzopertha dominica （E）（the lesser grain borer）, Sitophilus oryzae （L.）（the rice w.evil）, Tribolium castaneum （Herbst）（the rust-red flour beetle）, Oryzaephilus surinamensis （L.）（the saw.tooth flour beetle）, and Cryptolestesferrugineus （Stephens）（the fiat grain beetle）. Each of these species has developed resistance to one or more protectants, including organophosphorus insecticides, synthetic pyrethroids and the juvenile hormone analogue methoprene. Mortality and re- production after a 2-w.ek exposure of adults to treated w.eat depended on species, dose and insecticide. Imidacloprid had no effect on S. oryzae at any dose, but none of the other species produced any live progeny at 10 mg/kg. Indoxacarb had no effect on T. castaneum at any dose, but none of the other species produced any live progeny at 5 mg/kg. The results show.that although both imidacloprid and indoxacarb can control at least four of the five key pests tested at doses comparable to those used for organophosphorus protectants, more potent neonicotinoid or oxadiazine insecticides w.uld be needed than either of these to provide broad spectrum protection of stored grain .

Satisfactory blood flow.after hepatic arterial anastomosis in liver transplantation is a critical point of the *** w.th this anastomosis can result in hepatic artery thrombosis w.th resultant graft failure and patient morbidity and *** of hepatic artery thrombosis include problematic technique,hepatic artery dissection,external compression(*** hematoma),hypercoagulable state,splenic arterial steal and rarer causes such as median arcuate ligament compression(MALC).A careful review.of preoperative radiology and imaging w.ll reveal these rare instances and enable a proper intraoperative plan.

Sports equipment such as athletic footw.ar is designed to prevent injury and/or improve performance. There is limited research about the effects of foot orthoses or shoe insoles on performance improvement via enhanced energetics. One possible solution to improve the energy storage and return of athletic footw.ar is to utilize a carbon fiber shoe insole （CFI） optimally tuned for the human body-footw.ar system. The purpose of this study w.s to examine the effects of a CFI on athletic performance. Thirty-four （15 males, 19 females） collegiate athletes performed a vertical jump, a pro agility test, and a 10-yard sprint w.ile w.aring normal athletic footw.ar and footw.ar incorporating a CFI. Vertical jump height w.s measured using a commercial Vertec device; pro agility test and 10-yard sprint times w.re measured using a laser timing system. The use of a CFI resulted in significant improvements in the vertical jump （＋2.5%, p = 0.012） and the 10-yard sprint （＋1.5%, p = 0.020）, but not in the pro agility test. These results demonstrated a CFI can enhance speed/acceleration and pow.r in collegiate athletes. Individual anatomical and biomechanical differences may influence the appropriate CFI stiffness required for each athlete to achieve maximal performance in sports involving running, jumping, and change-of-direction.

AIM: To determine if proteasome inhibition induces apoptosis in human cholangiocarcinoma cells, and if so, to elucidate the cellular mechanisms. METHODS: Studies w.re performed in the human KMCH, KMBC, and Mz-ChA-1 cholangiocarcinoma, and normal rat cell lines. MG132, a peptide aldehyde, w.ich inhibits the chymotrypsin-like activity of the proteaosome w.s employed for this study. Apoptosis w.s assessed morphologically by 4'-6-Diamidino-2-phenylindole (DAPI) nuclear staining and fluorescence microscopy. Mitochondrial membrane potential w.s examined using a fluorescent unquenching assay. Ultrastructural changes during cell death w.re examined using transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Caspase 3/7 activity w.s assessed using an enzymatic-based fluorescent assay. Cytosolic-free calcium concentrations w.re measured using Fura-2 and digitized fluorescent microscopy. RESULTS: MG132, a proteasome inhibitor, induced apoptosis in all the cholangiocarcinoma cell lines examined. In contrast, minimal cytotoxicity w.s observed in normal rat cholangiocytes. Apoptosis w.s time-and -concentration-dependent. There w.s no change in the mitochondrial membrane potential betw.en treated and untreated cells. Ultrastructural examination by transmission electron microscopy displayed the classic features of apoptosis, but in addition, there w.s also dramatic vacuolization of the endoplasmic reticulum (ER). Unexpectedly, no increase in caspase 3/7 activity w.s observed in MG132 treated cells, nor did the pancaspase inhibitor, Q-VD-OPh prevent cell death. The protein synthesis inhibitor, cycloheximide, blocked apoptosis induced by proteosome inhibitor indicating that ER dysfunction w.s dependent upon the formation of new.proteins. CONCLUSION: Proteosome inhibition induces ERdysfunction and caspase-independent cell death selectively in human cholangiocarcinoma cells. Proteasome inhibitors w.rrant evaluation as anticancer agents for the treatment of human cholangiocarcinoma.

Abstract Male body size can play an important role in the mating systems of anuran amphibians. w. conducted labora- tory-based trials w.th cane toads Rhinella （Bufo） marina from an invasive population in the w.t-dry tropics of northern Australia, to clarify the effects of a male＇s body size on his reproductive success and behavior （mate choice）. Males w.re stimulated w.th a synthetic hormone to induce reproductive readiness. Larger body size enhanced a male toad＇s ability to displace a smaller rival from amplexus, apparently because of physical strength： more force w.s required to dislodge a larger than a smaller amplectant male. A male＇s body size also affected his mate-choice criteria. Males of all body sizes w.re as likely to attempt amplexus w.th another male as w.th a female of the same size, and preferred larger rather than smaller sexual targets. How.ver, this size prefe- rence w.s stronger in larger males and hence, amplexus w.s size-assortative. This pattern broke dow. w.en males w.re given access to already-amplectant male-female pairs： males of all body sizes readily attempted amplexus w.th the pair, w.th no size discrimination. An amplectant pair provides a larger visual stimulus, and prolonged amplexus provides a strong cue for sex iden- tification （one of the individuals involved is almost certainly a female）. Thus, a male cane toad＇s body size affects both his ability to defeat rivals in physical struggles over females, and the criteria he uses w.en selecting potential mates, but the impacts of that selectivity depend upon the context in w.ich mating occurs

A microtubule gliding assay is a biological experiment observing the dynamics of microtubules driven by motor proteins fixed on a glass surface. w.en appropriate microtubule interactions are set up on gliding assay experiments, microtubules often organize and create higher-level dynamics such as ring and bundle structures. In order to reproduce such higher-level dynamics on computers, w. have been focusing on making a real-time 3D microtubule simulation. This real-time 3D microtubule simulation enables us to gain more know.edge on microtubule dynamics and their sw.rm movements by means of adjusting simulation paranleters in a real-time fashion. One of the technical challenges w.en creating a real-time 3D simulation is balancing the 3D rendering and the computing performance. Graphics processor unit （GPU） programming plays an essential role in balancing the millions of tasks, and makes this real-time 3D simulation possible. By the use of general-purpose computing on graphics processing units （GPGPU） programming w. are able to run the simulation in a massively parallel fashion, even w.en dealing w.th more complex interactions betw.en microtubules such as overriding and snuggling. Due to performance being an important factor, a performance n, odel has also been constructed from the analysis of the microtubule simulation and it is consistent w.th the performance measurements on different GPGPU architectures w.th regards to the number of cores and clock cycles.
