The energy efficiency of a building depends on building envelope *** results presented in this paper are the first of a long-term building envelope research project at the Alternative Village at the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg,Manitoba,*** test buildings were constructed using the following systems:two wood frames with fiberglass batt insulation and dense pack cellulose,one polyurethane structural insulated panels(PUR SIP),and two with the Stay in place PVC concrete form building system using 102mm and 204mm of concrete externally insulated with 102mm of expanded polystyrene *** of the buildings had a common foundation and roof system with a footprint of 23.8 *** door tests were conducted to determine air *** structure was heated with an electrical resistance heater and maintained at a constant internal *** thermal gradient through the wall and power consumption were *** study period discussed in this report represents the main heating season from October 2011 to April 2012 consisting of 209 *** on the power consumption,the PUR SIP consumed the least at 2498 kWh,while the 204 mm Stay in place PVC concrete form building used the most at 2898 kWh for the same time *** thermal gradient through the cross section of the wood frame structures was compared through the cavity insulation and at the *** was found that the cellulose building provided better thermal resistance along the stud when compared to the fiberglass batt insulation.

The dynamics of frontal and transverse shocks in gaseous detonation waves is a complex phenomenon bringing many difficulties to both numerical and experimental *** laser-optical visualization of detonation structure may provide certain information of its reactive front,but the corresponding lead shock needs to be reconstructed building the complete flow *** the multi-layer perceptron(MLP)approach,we propose a shock front reconstruction method which can predict evolution of the lead shock wavefront from the state of the reactive *** method is verified through the numerical results of one-and two-dimensional unstable detonations based on the reactive Euler equations with a one-step irreversible chemical reaction *** show that the accuracy of the proposed method depends on the activation energy of the reactive mixture,which influences prominently the cellular detonation instability and hence,the distortion of the lead shock *** select the input variables for training and evaluate their influence on the effectiveness of the proposed method,five groups,one with six variables,and the other with four variables,are tested and analyzed in the MLP *** trained MLP is tested in the cases with different activation energies,demonstrates the inspiring generalization *** paper offers a universal framework for predicting detonation frontal evolution and provides a novel way to interpret numerical and experimental results of detonation waves.

Water quality has been found to significantly influence the flotation operations due to the alteration of surface properties of *** effect of cations on the flotation of RE minerals has been studied,however,there are still very limited information regarding the effect of *** present study examined the impact of specific anions such as Cl^(-),SO_(4)^(2-),and HCO_(3)^(-)on the flotation performance of rare earth(RE) *** study integrates flotation experiments,rheology measurements,entrainment experiments,zeta potential measurements and settling *** is observed that an increase in the concentration of these anions lead to a decrease in the recovery of RE minerals and an increase in the recovery of FeO minerals and thus negatively affecting flotation *** adverse effect is most pronounced with Cl^(-)and least noticeable with HCO_(3)^(-).An increase in the non-selective entrainment of gangue minerals is observed when the flotation pulp has higher *** reduction in the zeta potential of fine particles in the presence of these results in a higher pulp viscosity due to increased attractive forces between *** findings were verified by settling experiments and calculations based on the DLVO theory.

Laser-assisted process can enable facile,mask-free,large-area,inexpensive,customizable,and miniaturized patterning of laser-induced porous graphene(LIG)on versatile carbonaceous substrates(e.g.,polymers,wood,food,textiles)in a programmed manner at ambient *** with high tailorability of its porosity,morphology,composition,and electrical conductivity,LIG can find wide applications in emerging bioelectronics(e.g.,biophysical and biochemical sensing)and soft robots(e.g.,soft actuators).In this review paper,we first introduce the methods to make LIG on various carbonaceous substrates and then discuss its electrical,mechanical,and antibacterial properties and biocompatibility that are critical for applications in bioelectronics and soft ***,we overview the recent studies of LIG-based biophysical(e.g.,strain,pressure,temperature,hydration,humidity,electrophysiological)sensors and biochemical(e.g.,gases,electrolytes,metabolites,pathogens,nucleic acids,immunology)*** applications of LIG in flexible energy generators and photodetectors are also *** addition,LIG-enabled soft actuators that can respond to chemicals,electricity,and light stimulus are ***,we briefly discuss the future challenges and opportunities of LIG fabrications and applications.

The Jiuyishan complex massif,located in the northern section of the Nanling region,is a combination of five plutons,namely,the Xuehuading,Jinjiling,Pangxiemu,Shaziling and Xishan ***-rock geochemistry,Imineral electron microprobe analysis,zircon U-Pb dating and Hf isotope analysis were carried out for the Jinjiling and Pangxiemu *** zircon U-Pb dating yields weighted mean ages of 152.9±0.9 Ma for the Jinjiling pluton and 151.7±1.5 Ma for the Pangxiemu pluton,with a narrow gap between *** Jinjiling and Pangxiemu plutons both have geochemical characteristics of high SiO2,Al2 O3,Na2 O,K2 O and low TiO2,MgO,CaO,P2 O5 contents,with intense depletions in Sr,Ba,Ti,Eu and enrichments in Ga,FeoOT and HFSE,and these characteristics reflect an A-type *** the Jinjiling to the Pangxiemu plutons,the mineral composition of mica changes from lepidomelane to zinnwaldite,with increases in F,Li2 O and Rb2 O *** mineral composition of zircon changes from low Zr/Hf to high Zr/Hf,with increasing HfO2,P2 O5 and UO2+ThO2+Y2 O3 *** mineral compositions of feldspar indicate that the Pangxiemu pluton contains more alkali feldspar than the Jinjiling *** whole-rock geochemistry and mineral compositions reveal a higher degree of differentiation for the Pangxiemu *** nearly uniformεHf(t)indicates the same source region for the two plutons:both were derived from partial melting of the lower crust,with small contributions of mantle *** addition,higher F,lower Nb/Ta and Zr/Hf ratios in the Pangxiemu Pluton suggest a closer relationship with the rare metal mineralization than for the Jinjiling pluton.

Displaced fractures of patella often require open reduction surgery and internal fixation to restore the extensor continuity and articular *** fixation with biodegradable magnesium(Mg)pins enhanced fracture *** hypothesized that fixation with Mg pins and their degradation over time would enhance healing of patellar fracture radiologically,mechanically,and *** patellar fracture surgery was performed on thirty-two 18-weeks old female New Zealand White *** fracture was fixed with a pin made of stainless steel or pure Mg,and a figure-of-eight stainless steel band *** were harvested at week 8 or 12,and assessed with microCT,tensile testing,microindentation,and *** analysis showed that Mg group showed 12%higher in the ratio of bone volume to tissue volume at week 8,and 38.4%higher of bone volume at week *** testing showed that the failure load and stiffness of Mg group were 66.9%and 104%higher than the control group at week 8,*** week 12,Mg group was 60.8%higher in ultimate strength than the control *** showed that,compared to the Control group,Mg group showed 49.9%higher Vickers hardness and 31%higher elastic modulus at week 8 and 12,*** week 12,the new bone of Mg group remodelled to laminar bone,but those of the control group remained woven *** of transverse patellar fracture with Mg pins and its degradation enhanced new bone formation and mechanical properties of the repaired patella compared to the Control group.

Phytohormones, auxins in particular, play an important role in plant development and productivity. Earlier data showed positive impact of exogenous auxin on potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) tuberization. The aim of this study was to generate potato plants with increased auxin level predominantly in tubers. To this end, a pBinB33-tms1 vector was constructed harboring the Agrobacterium auxin biosynthesis gene tms1 fused to tuber-specific promoter of the class I patatin gene (B33-promoter) of potato. Among numerous independently generated B33:tms1 lines, those without visible differences from control were selected for detailed studies. In the majority of transgenic lines, tms1 gene transcription was detected, mostly in tubers rather than in shoots. Indoleacetic acid (IAA) content in tubers and the auxin tuber-to-shoot ratio were increased in tms1-expressing transformants. The organ-specific increase in auxin synthesis in B33:tms1-transformants accelerated and intensified the process of tuber formation, reduced the dose of carbohydrate supply required for in vitro tuberization, and decreased the photoperiodic dependence of tuber initiation. Overall, a positive correlation was observed between tms1 expression, IAA content in tubers, and stimulation of tuber formation. The revealed properties of B33:tms1 transformants imply an important role for auxin in potato tuberization and offer prospects to magnify potato productivity by a moderate organ-specific enhancement of auxin content.

HIV-1 capsid protein(CA) has emerged as a promising target for antiviral treatment considering its structural and regulatory roles in HIV-1 replication. Here, we disclose the design, synthesis, biological assessment, and mechanism investigation of a novel series of phenylalanine derivatives gained by further structural modification of PF74. The newly synthesized compounds demonstrated potent anti-HIV activity, represented by 7n displayed anti-HIV-1 activity 6.25-fold better than PF74, and 7h showed anti-HIV-2activity with nearly 139 times improved efficacy over PF74. Surface plasmon resonance(SPR) studies of representative compounds proved that HIV-1 CA was the binding target. Competitive SPR studies using CPSF6 and NUP153 peptides identified that 7n binds to a vital CA assembly interface between the Nterminal and C-terminal domain(NTD-CTD interface). Action stage determination assay revealed that the newly synthesized compounds were antiviral with a dual-stage inhibitory profile. Molecular dynamics(MD) simulations offered the crucial foundation for the hopeful antiviral potency of 7n. Besides, 7m and7n modestly increased metabolic stabilities in human liver microsome(HLM) and human plasma compared to PF74. Overall, these studies offer valuable insights and can regard as the beginning for succedent medicinal chemistry endeavors to discover promising HIV capsid inhibitors with improved efficacy and better drug-like characteristics.
