The paper by Lu et al. [1] ＂A survey on the status of semen analysis in 118 laboratories in China＂ provides a major review of the current methods of semen analysis in China's Mainland. It involved a 36-item questionnaire completed by technicians in 118 of a possible 145 potential semen laboratories. Recruitment for the study was via contacts developed at Chinese Andrology meetings and training sessions between 2005 and 2007. It is not stated how comprehensive this strategy would be for accessing all semen laboratories in China. About half the participating laboratories were in general hospitals and the others in hospitals with academic affiliations or family planning institutes.

Much of our understanding of the events which underlie cell migration has been derived from studies of cells intissue culture. One of the components that mediates this process is the dynamic actin-based microfilament system that canreorganize itself into so-called stress fibers that are considered essential components for cell motility. In contrast, relativelyfew studies have investigated cell movement along an extracellular matrix (ECM) which is known to influence both cellularorganization and behavior. This opinion/viewpoint article briefly reviews cell migration during corneal endothelial woundrepair along the tissue’s natural basement membrane, Descemet’s membrane. Because the tissue exists as a cell monolayer itaffords one an opportunity to readily explore the effect of cell/matrix influences on cell motility. As such, cell movementalong this substrate differs somewhat from that found in vitro and migrating endothelial cells also demonstrate an abilityto move along the ECM without the benefit of having an organized actin cytoskeleton.

The patient receives a pharmaceutical product, not a drug. The pharmaceutical products are formulated with a drug, an active ingredient to produce the maximum therapeutic effect after oral absorption. Therefore, it is the product we must optimize for the patients. In order to assure the safety and efficacy of pharmaceutical products, we need an in vivo predictive tool for oral product performance in patients. Currently, we are a surprisingly long way from accomplishing that objective. If the 20th century was the ＇age of the drug＇, i.e., the ＇magic bullet＇, the 21st century must become the ＇age of the guided missile＇, i.e., the delivery system, including the form of the active pharmaceutical ingredient （API）（＇drug＇）. The physical form of the drug and the delivery system must be optimized to maximize the therapeutic benefits of pharmaceutical products for humans. Oral immediate release （IR） dosage forms cannot be optimal for all drugs or likely even any drugs （APIs）. Still, the formulation of pharmaceutical products has to be optimized for patients. But how do we optimize oral delivery of drugs？ It is usually through ＇trial and error＇, in humans! We need a better way to optimize the oral dosage forms. We have suggested to select different dissolution methodologies for this optimization based on BCS Subclasses. In this article, we present the predicted in vivo drug dissolution profile of ketoconazole as a model drug from our laboratory utilizing a gastrointestinal simulator （GIS）, which is an adaptation of the ASD system. GIS consists of three chambers representing stomach, duodenum, and jejunum, to create the human gastrointestinal tract-like environment and enable the control the gastric emptying rate. This dissolution system allows the monitoring of the drug dissolution phenomena and the observation of the super- saturation and the precipitation of pharmaceutical pro- ducts, which is useful information to predict in vivo dissolution of pharmaceutical products. It has been well accepted that the folding energy landscape may resemble a funnel according to the theory of protein folding. This theory of ＂folding funnel＂ has been extensively studied and thought to play an important role in guiding the sampling process of the protein folding and refinement in protein structure prediction. Here, we have investigated the relationship between the ＂funnel likeness＂ of protein folding and the size/structure of the proteins based on a set of non-homologous proteins we have recently evaluated using a statistical mechanicsbased scoring function ITScorePro. It was found that larger proteins that consist of more helix/sheet structures tend to have a higher score-Root Mean Square Deviation（RMSD） correlation（or a more funnel like energy landscape）.Another measurement in protein folding, Z-score, has also shown some correlation with the size of the *** expected, proteins with a better ＂olding funnel likeness＂（or score-RMSD correlation） tend to have a betterpredicted conformation with a lower RMSD from their native structures. These findings can be extremely valuable for the development and improvement of sampling and scoring algorithms for protein structure prediction.

Rheology analysis of granular flows is important for predicting geophysical hazards and designing industrial processes. Using a discrete element method, we simulate simple shear flows in 3D under a constant confining pressure of 10 kPa. The inertial number proposed by the GDR MiDi group in France is adopted to distinguish rheology regimes, Both translational and angular velocity profiles are investigated, and both fluid-like and solid-like behavior modes are observed in the flows. The maximum angular velocity occurs near the localized deformation area. We also investigate the energy characteristics of the flows and find that at very small shearing speed, the mean kinetic energy density ek is close to zero, while the mean elastic energy density ec is much greater. At large shearing speed, ek increases. The fluctuating parts of the two types of energy increase with increasing shear speed. Thus, the mean energy density ratio ek/ec can be used in addition to the inertial number to distinguish flow regimes. These results provide insights from energetics into the rheological properties of granular flows.

Environmental education （EE） is a vital dimension of modern day acumen that portends a great promise in solving the myriad environmental resource management challenges at global, regional and local levels. A study was carried out in 18 locations in the Nandi North, Nandi South and Nandi Hills districts of Kenya, which cover the Nandi Hills and Nandi Forests in Nandi County, major water catchments for Lake Victoria. A mixed methodological approach, incorporating both qualitative and quantitative data obtained from focus group discussions, key informant interviews, household survey and observations was embraced in data collection and analysis. The study reveals that there are several strategies that have been adopted by the local population and institutions involved in the management of the Nandi Hills Forests （NHFs） and that these strategies have contributed to an improvement in the perceptions of the local population in terms of the importance of environmental management of the forests. This paper highlights EE as a vehicle for ensur- ing a sustainable management of the Nandi Hills Forests. As such, it illuminates the great potential that lies in sustainably managing the NHFs by integrating formal and informal EE approaches. It further points out the functional gaps in the management of NHFs and proposes best-practices that could be adopted and/or domesticated in NHFs management regimes.

On analyzing the achievement of the goal in the modem urban road traffic development planning, the alternative of Strategic Environmental Assessment for urban traffic planning should include the basic scheme, the extended scheme and the environmental protection scheme. This study from different perspectives designed the alternatives for Changchun＇s county-level road and urban road system planning, and used the method of System Dynamics to simulate, optimize and analyze those alternatives. Thereafter, some methods including the correlation function method were used to comprehensively assess and rank those alternatives for recommending two best alternatives with the consideration to the indicators, such as the total emission amount of CO, the total emission amount of nitrogen oxides, the noise value, the road construction cost, the fossil oil consumption and the traffic capacity. The result showed that the study would provide substantial supports for decision-makers to make more scientific decisions and promote the sustainable urban traffic in Changchun City.
