Fatigue is the main failure mode in pavement engineering. Typically, micro-cracks originate at the bottom of asphalt concrete layer due to horizontal tensile strains. Micro-cracks start to propagate towards the upper layers under repeated loading which can lead to pavement failure. Different methods are usually used to describe fatigue behavior in asphalt materials such as： phenomenological approach, fracture mechanics approach and dissipated energy ap- proach. This paper presents a comparison of fatigue resistances calculated for different dissipated energy models using 2-point bending （2PB） at IFSTTAR in Nantes. 2PB tests have been undertaken under different loading and environmental conditions in order to evaluate the properties of the mixtures （stiffness, dissipated energy, fatigue life and healing effect）.

A tunable broadband metamaterial absorber is demonstrated at microwave frequencies in this paper. The meta- material absorber is composed of ferrite slabs with large resonance beamwidths and a copper wire. The theoretical analysis for the effective media parameters is presented to show the mechanism for achieving the perfect absorptivity characteristic. The numerical results of transmission, reflectance, and absorptivity indicate that the metamaterial ab- sorber exhibits a near perfect impedance-match to free space and a high absorptivity of 98.2% for one layer and 99.97% for two layers at 9.9 GHz. The bandwidth with the absorptivity above 90% is about 2.3 GHz. Moreover, the absorption band can be shifted linearly in a wide frequency range by adjusting the magnetic bias. This metamaterial absorber opens a way to prepare perfectly matched layers for engineering applications.

With increasing world population the demand of food production has increased *** of Things(IoT)based smart agriculture system can play a vital role in optimising crop yield by managing crop requirements in *** can be an important factor to make such systems trusted and easily adopted by *** this paper,we propose a novel artificial intelligence-based agriculture system that uses IoT data to monitor the environment and alerts farmers to take the required actions for maintaining ideal conditions for crop *** strength of the proposed system is in its interpretability which makes it easy for farmers to understand,trust and use *** use of fuzzy logic makes the system customisable in terms of types/number of sensors,type of crop,and adaptable for any soil types and weather *** proposed system can identify anomalous data due to security breaches or hardware malfunction using machine learning *** ensure the viability of the system we have conducted thorough research related to agricultural factors such as soil type,soil moisture,soil temperature,plant life cycle,irrigation requirement and water application timing for Maize as our target *** experimental results show that our proposed system is interpretable,can detect anomalous data,and triggers actions accurately based on crop requirements.

Thinning and in-stream wood recruitment in riparian second growth forests in coastal Oregon and the use of buffers and tree tipping as mitigation

Many aquatic habitats in coastal Oregon have been impacted by historic land use practices that led to losses of in-stream wood and associated degraded fish habitats. Many of these streams are now bordered by stands of dense second growth forests（30–80 years） that are incorporated into riparian buffer zones with low wood recruitment and storage. Thinning in riparian zones is one management option to increase the rate of large tree growth and eventually larger in-stream wood, however, it raises concern about impacts on current wood recruitment, among other issues. Using a forest growth simulation model coupled to a model of in-stream wood recruitment, we explore riparian management alternatives in a Douglas-fir plantation in coastal Oregon. Alternatives included：（1） no treatment,（2） single and double entry thinning, without and with a 10-m buffer, and（3） thinning combined with mechanical introduction of some portion of the thinned trees into the stream（tree tipping）. compared to no treatment, single and double entry thinning on one side of a channel, without a 10-m buffer, reduce cumulative instream wood volume by 33 and 42 %, respectively, after100 years（includes decay）. Maintaining a 10-m buffer reduces the in-stream wood loss to 7 %（single entry thin）and 11 %（double entry）. To completely offset the losses of in-stream wood in a single entry thin（on one or both sides of the stream）, in the absence or presence of a 10-m buffer,requires a 12–14 % rate of tree tipping. Relative to the notreatment alternative, cumulative in-stream wood storage can be increased up to 24 % in a double-entry thin with no buffer by tipping 15–20 % of the thinned trees（increased to 48 % if thinning and tipping simultaneously on both sides of the stream）. The predicted increases in in-stream wood that can occur during a thin with tree tipping may be effective for restoring fish habitat, particularly in aquatic systems that have poor habitat conditions and low levels of in-stream wood due to h

Objective: To assess the efficacy of a curcumin supplementation on cognitive abilities in women suffering from premenstrual syndrome(PMS) and dysmenorrhea. Methods: A randomized, triple-blind, placebocontrolled trial was conducted from December 2019 to March 2020. A total of 124 women who had both PMS and dysmenorrhea were enrolled, and were equally and randomly assigned to the curcumin group or placebo group, 62 cases in each. Each subject received either a capsule containing 500 mg of curcuminoid, or a placebo daily, for 10 days(7 days before and until 3 days after the onset of menstrual bleeding) over 3 menstrual cycles. The cognitive abilities questionnaire was used to measures cognitive functions in 7 specific areas. Adverse reactions were monitored during and after the trial in both groups. Results: Administration of curcumin was associated with a significant increase in memory score(P=0.002), inhibitory control and selective attention(P=0.020), and total cognitive ability task(P=0.024). In addition, significant increments were found in scores of memory(3.5±3.1 vs. 0.4±3.8 in the curcumin and placebo groups, respectively;P=0.035), inhibitory control and selective attention(3.0±3.7 vs. 0.4±3.7;P=0.027) and total cognitive abilities(8.3±12.3 vs. 2.2±12.4;P=0.025) in the curcumin group versus placebo groups. curcumin was safe and well-tolerable in current clinical trial. conclusion: curcumin has a beneficial efficacy on cognitive function scores in women with PMS and dysmenorrhea, with improvements in memory, inhibitory control and selective attention.(Registration No. IRcT20191112045424N1, available at: https://***)
