The interaction between KIF21A and KANK1 regulates dendritic morphology and synapse plasticity in neurons

Morphological alterations in dendritic spines have been linked to changes in functional communication between neurons that affect learning and ***-4 KIF21A helps organize the microtubule-actin network at the cell cortex by interacting with KANK1;however,whether KIF21A modulates dendritic structure and function in neurons remains *** this study,we found that KIF21A was distributed in a subset of dendritic spines,and that these KIF21A-positive spines were larger and more structurally plastic than KIF21A-negative ***,the interaction between KIF21A and KANK1 was found to be critical for dendritic spine morphogenesis and synaptic *** of either KIF21A or KANK1 inhibited dendritic spine morphogenesis and dendritic branching,and these deficits were fully rescued by coexpressing full-length KIF21A or KANK1,but not by proteins with mutations disrupting direct binding between KIF21A and KANK1 or binding between KANK1 and *** down KIF21A in the hippocampus of rats inhibited the amplitudes of long-term potentiation induced by high-frequency stimulation and negatively impacted the animals’cognitive *** together,our findings demonstrate the function of KIF21A in modulating spine morphology and provide insight into its role in synaptic function.

Damage Failure Analysis of Z-Pins Reinforced Composite Adhesively Bonded Single-Lap Joint

In order to study themechanical properties of Z-pins reinforced laminated composite single-lap adhesively bonded joint under un-directional static tensile load,damage failure analysis of the joint was carried out bymeans of test and numerical *** failure mode and mechanism of the joint were analyzed by tensile failure *** to the experimental results,the joint exhibits mixed failure,and the ultimate failure is Z-pins pulling out of the *** order to study the failure mechanism of the joint,the finite element method is used to predict the failure *** numerical results are in good agreement with the experimental results,and the error is 6.0%,which proves the validity of the numerical *** progressive damage failure analysis,it is found that matrix tensile failure of laminate at the edge of Z-pins occurs first,then adhesive layer failure-proceeds at the edge of Z-pins,and finally matrix-fiber shear failure of the laminate takes *** the increase of load,the matrix-fiber shear failure expands gradually in the X direction,and at the same time,the matrix tensile failure at the hole edge gradually extends in different directions,which is consistent with the experimental results.

ACTPred: Activity Prediction in Mobile Social Networks

A current trend for online social networks is to turn *** social networks directly reflect our real social life,and therefore are an important source to analyze and understand the underlying dynamics of human behaviors （activities）.In this paper,we study the problem of activity prediction in mobile social *** present a series of observations in two real mobile social networks and then propose a method,ACTPred,based on a dynamic factor-graph model for modeling and predicting users＇ *** approximate algorithm based on mean fields is presented to efficiently learn the proposed *** deploy a real system to collect users＇ mobility behaviors and validate the proposed method on two collected mobile *** results show that the proposed ACTPred model can achieve better performance than baseline methods.

Theoretical study on magnetocaloric effect and its electric-field regulation in CrI_(3)/metal heterostructure

The extraordinary properties of a heterostructure by stacking atom-thick van der Waals(vdW)magnets have been extensively ***,the magnetocaloric effect(MCE)of heterostructures that are based on monolayer magnets remains to be ***,we deliberate MCE of vd W heterostructure composed of a monolayer CrI_(3)and metal atomic layers(Ag,Hf,Au,and Pb).It is revealed that heterostructure engineering by introducing metal substrate can improve MCE of CrI_(3),particularly boosting relative cooling power to 471.72μJ m^(-2)and adiabatic temperature change to 2.1 K at 5 T for CrI_(3)/*** improved MCE is ascribed to the enhancement of magnetic moment and intralayer exchange coupling in CrI_(3)due to the CrI_(3)/metal heterointerface induced charge *** field is further found to tune MCE of CrI_(3)in heterostructures and could shift the peak temperature by around 10 K in CrI_(3)/Hf,thus manipulating the working temperature window of *** theoretical results could enrich the research on low-dimensional magnetocaloric materials.

Numerical investigation on gas flow heat transfer and pressure drop in the shell side of spiral-wound heat exchangers

Numerical Simulation of Dynamic Electro-Mechanical Response of Ionic Polymer-Metal Composites

Ionic Polymer-Metal Composites （IPMC） is an emerging class of Electro-Active Polymer （EAP） materials. IPMC has attractive features, such as high sensitivity and light weight, which are useful for developing novel designs in the fields of bionic actuators, artificial muscles and dynamic sensors. A Finite Element （FE） model was developed for simulating the dynamic electro-mechanical response of an IPMC structure under an external voltage input. A lumped Resisto^Capacitor （RC） model was used to describe the voltage-to-current relationship of a Nation IPMC film for the computation of electric field intensity. Moreover, the viscoelastic property of the IPMC film was considered in the model and the non-uniform bending behavior was also taken into account. Based on the proposed model and the assumption that the thicknesses of the two electrodes are the same and uniform, the optimal coating thickness of the IPMC electrode was determined. It was demonstrated that the dynamic electro-mechanical response of the IPMC structure can be predicted by the proposed FE model, and the simulation results were in good agreement with the experimental findings.

Community Dynamics of Seed Rain in Mixed Evergreen Broad-leaved and Deciduous Forests in a Subtropical Mountain of Central China

Seed dispersal is a key process within community dynamics. The spatial and temporal variations of seed dispersal and the interspecific differences are crucial for understanding species coexistence and community dynamics. This might also hold for the mixed evergreen broadleaved and deciduous forests in the mountains of subtropical China, but until now little existing knowledge is available for this question. In 2001, we chose to monitor the seed rain process of our mixed evergreen broad-leaved and deciduous forest communities in Mount Dalaoling National Forest Park, Yichang, Hubei Province, China. The preliminary analyses show obvious variations in seed rain density, species compositions and timing of seed rain among four communities. The average seed rain densities of the four communities are 2.43 ± 5.15, 54.13 ±182.75, 10.05 ±19.30 and 24.91 ± 58.86 inds/m^2, respectively; about one tenth the values in other studies in subtropical forests of China. in each community, the seed production is dominated by a limited number of species, and the contributions from the others are generally minor. Fecundity of evergreen broadleaved tree species is weaker than deciduous species. The seed rain of four communities begins earlier than September, and stops before December, peaking from early September to late October. The beginning date, ending date and peak times of seed rain are extensively varied among the species, indicating different types of dispersal strategies. According to the existing data, the timing of seed rain is not determined by the climate conditions in the same period, while the density of seed rain may be affected by the disturbances of weather variations at a finer temporal resolution.

Subsurface Damage of Monocrystalline Germanium Wafers by Fixed and Free Abrasive Lappings

The subsurface damage(SSD)layers of monocrystalline germanium wafers lapped by three different ways were measured and compared by the method of nanoindentation and micro *** ways such as ice-fixed abrasive,thermosetting fixed abrasive and free abrasive lappings are adopted to lap monocrystalline germanium *** SSD depth was measured by a nanoindenter,and the morphology of SSD layer was observed by an atomic force microscopy(AFM).The results show that the SSD layer of monocrystalline germanium wafer is mainly composed of soft corrosion layer and plastic scratch and crack growth *** with thermosetting fixed abrasive and free abrasive lappings,the SSD depth lapped with ice-fixed abrasive is ***,the SSD morphology of monocrystalline germanium wafer lapped with ice-fixed abrasive is superior to those of two other processing ways.

Development of a radical polymerization algorithm for molecular dynamics simulations of antifreezing hydrogels with double-network structures

The development and understanding of antifreezing hydrogels are crucial both in principle and practice for the design and delivery of new *** current antifreezing mechanisms in hydrogels are almost exclusively derived from their incorporation of antifreezing additives,rather than from the inherent properties of the polymers ***,developing a computational model for the independent yet interconnected double-network(DN)structures in hydrogels has proven to be an exceptionally difficult ***,we develop a multiscale simulation platform,integrating‘random walk reactive polymerization’(RWRP)with molecular dynamics(MD)simulations,to computationally construct a physically-chemically linked PVA/PHEAA DN hydrogels from monomers that mimic a radical polymerization and to investigate water structures,dynamics,and interactions confined in PVA/PHEAA hydrogels with various water contents and temperatures,aiming to uncover antifreezing mechanism at atomic *** simulation results indicate that the antifreezing property of PVA/PHEAA hydrogels arises from a combination of intrinsic,strong water-binding networks and crosslinkers and tightly crosslinked and interpenetrating double-network structures,both of which enhance polymer-water interactions for competitively inhibiting ice nucleation and *** computational findings provide atomic-level insights into the interplay between polymers and water molecules in hydrogels,which may determine their resistance to freezing.

Structural insights of phosphorylated into the recognition FUNDC1 by LC3B in mitophagy

Mitophagy is an essential intracellular process that eliminates dysfunctional mitochondria and maintains cellular homeostasis. Mitophagy is regulated by the post-translational modification of mitophagy receptors. Fun14 domain-containing protein 1 （FUNDC1） was reported to be a new receptor for hypoxia-induced mitophagy in mammalian cells and interact with micro-tubule-associated protein light chain 3 beta （LC3B） through its LC3 interaction region （liR）. Moreover, the phosphorylation modification of FUNDC1 affects its binding affinity for LC3B and regulates selective mitophagy. However, the structural basis of this regulation mechanism remains unclear. Here, we present the crystal structure of LC3B in complex with a FUNDCI liR peptide phosphorylated at Ser17 （pS17）, demonstrating the key residues of LC3B for the specific recognition of the phosphorylated or dephosphorylated FUNDC1. Intriguingly, the side chain of LC3B Lys49 shifts remarkably and forms a hydrogen bond and electrostatic interaction with the phosphate group of FUNDC1 pS17. Alternatively, phosphorylated Tyr18 （PY18） and Ser13 （PS13） in FUNDC1 significantly obstruct their interaction with the hydrophobic pocket and Arg10 of LC3B, respectively. Structural observations are further validated by mutation and isothermal titration calorimetry （ITC） assays. Therefore, our structural and biochemical results reveal a working model for thespecific recognition of FUNDCI by LC3B and imply that the reversible phosphorylation modification of mitophagy receptors may be a switch for selective mitophagy.
