The strategies for thermal regulation and envir on mental control found in nature are countless. In this article, a parallelism between animals and building energy systems is defined in order to identJfy and emphasize the immediate opportunities that biomimicry offers for future research. The motivation was the need to find alternative solutions to tackle problems mainly in the efficiency of heating, ventilation and cooling systems. Due to the wide range of possibilities offered by animals, this study is largely limited to the strategies that cold-blooded animals have developed through evolutionary adaptation to the environment. The method used for the an a lysis is based on a soluti on-based approach. Firstly, differe nt animal thermoregulation strategies are defined (biological domain). Then the strategy is an a lyzed and classified into three categories. This classification is esse ntial in order to formulate the parallelism with building systems (transfer phase). The final step is to identify the potential implementation (technological domain).This approach has been seen to be useful in creating new research opportunities based on biomimicry. In addition, suitable solutions arising from multidisciplinary team research are presented as promising answers to the challenges that building energy systems face no wadays.

The ethanol electro-reforming process was studied over PtRu/C catalysts synthesized by the modified polyol method with different *** particular,this work reports the influence of anodic Pt:Ru ratio(5:1,2:1 and 1:2)on the organic product distribution(acetaldehyde,acetic acid and ethyl acetate)and pure hydrogen generation at different current densities operation *** characterization of the catalysts was made by X-ray diffraction(XRD),temperature-programmed reduction(TPR)and N_(2) adsorption-desorption *** patterns showed that Ru is introduced into the Pt structure,forming an alloy between both ***,the degree of alloy was higher by increasing the Ru *** TPR profiles Pt was found to be properly reduced while Ru was both in metallic state and forming *** electrochemical behaviour of each catalyst towards ethanol electroreforming process was investigated through electrochemical techniques in a half cell and a single proton exchange membrane(PEM)cell *** intermediate Pt:Ru ratio was found to result in high current density and electrochemical surface area(ECSA)values along with lower amounts of adsorbed ***,Ru addition seems to diminish the degree of degradation of the *** on characterization and in agreement with essays carried out in a PEM cell at mild conditions(80℃ and 1 atm),PtRu/C 2:1 anode provided the best electrocatalytic results in terms of current density(740 mA cm^(-2)),hydrogen production and selectivity toward acetic acid(up to 15%apart from acetaldehyde and ethyl acetate)while requiring the lowest energy consumption.

AIM： To investigate the angiogenesis-related protein expression profile characterizing metastatic colorectal cancer （mCRC） with the aim of identifying prognostic markers.METHODS： The expression of 44 angiogenesis- secreted factors was measured by a novel cytokine antibody array methodology. The study evaluated vas- cular endothelial growth factor （VEGF） and its soluble vascular endothelial growth factor receptor （sVEGFR）-I protein levels by enzyme immunoassay （EIA） in a panel of 16 CRC cell lines, mRNA VEGF and VEGF-A isoforms were quantified by quantitative reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction （Q-RT-PCR） and vascular en- dothelial growth factor receptor （VEGFR）-2 expressionwas analyzed by flow cytometry.

Total mesorectal excision(TME) is the standard treatment for rectal cancer, but complications are frequent and rates of morbidity, mortality and genitourinary alterations are high. Transanal endoscopic microsurgery(TEM) allows preservation of the anal sphincters and, via its vision system through a rectoscope, allows access to rectal tumors located as far as 20 cm from the anal verge. The capacity of local surgery to cure rectal cancer depends on the risk of lymph node invasion. This means that correct preoperative staging of the rectal tumor is necessary. Currently, local surgery is indicated for rectal adenomas and adenocarcinomas invading the submucosa, but not beyond(T1). Here we describe the standard technique for TEM, the different types of equipment used, and the technical limitations of this approach. TEM to remove rectal adenoma should be performed in the same way as if the lesion were an adenocarcinoma, due to the high percentageof infiltrating adenocarcinomas in these lesions. In spite of the generally good results with T1, some authors have published surprisingly high recurrence rates; this is due to the existence of two types of lesions, tumors with good and poor prognosis, divided according to histological and surgical factors. The standard treatment for rectal adenocarcinoma T2N0M0 is TME without adjuvant therapy. In this type of adenocarcinoma, local surgery obtains the best results when complete pathological response has been achieved with previous chemoradiotherapy. The results with chemoradiotherapy and TEM are encouraging, but the scientific evidence remains limited at present.

Nucleotide sugar transporters （NSTs） are antiporters comprising a gene family that plays a fundamental role in the biosynthesis of complex cell wall polysaccharides and glycoproteins in plants. However, due to the limited number of related mutants that have observable phenotypes, the biological function（s） of most NSTs in cell wall biosynthesis and assembly have remained elusive. Here, we report the characterization of AtUTr7 from Arabidopsis （Arabidopsis thaliana （L.） Heynh.）, which is homologous to multi-specific UDP-sugar transporters from Drosophila melanogaster, humans, and Caenorhabditis elegans. We show that AtUTr7 possesses the common structural characteristics conserved among NSTs. Using a green fluorescent protein （GFP） tagged version, we demonstrate that AtUTr7 is localized in the Golgi apparatus. We also show that AtUTr7 is widely expressed, especially in the roots and in specific floral organs. Additionally, the results of an in vitro nucleotide sugar transport assay carried out with a tobacco and a yeast expression system suggest that AtUTr7 is capable of transferring UDP-Gal and UDP-GIc, but not a range of other UDP- and GDP-sugars, into the Golgi lumen. Mutants lacking expression of AtUTr7 exhibited an early proliferation of lateral roots as well as distorted root hairs when cultivated at high sucrose concentrations. Furthermore, the distribution of homogalacturonan with a low degree of methyl esterification differed in lateral root tips of the mutant compared to wild-type plants, although additional analytical procedures revealed no further differences in the composition of the root cell walls. This evidence suggests that the transport of UDP-Gal and UDP-GIc into the Golgi under conditions of high root biomass production plays a role in lateral root and root hair development.

Occult hepatitis B infection(OBI) is characterized by hepatitis B virus(HBV) DNA in serum in the absence of hepatitis B surface antigen(HBsAg) presenting HBsAg-negative and anti-HBc positive serological *** HBV status is associated in some cases with mutant viruses undetectable by HBsAg assays;but more frequently it is due to a strong suppression of viral replication and gene *** is an entity with world-wide *** failure to detect HBsAg,despite the persistence of the viral DNA,is due in most cases to the strong suppression of viral replication and gene expression that characterizes this"occult"HBV infection;although the mechanisms responsible for suppression of HBV are not well *** majority of OBI cases are secondary to overt HBV infection and represent a residual low viremia level suppressed by a strong immune response together with histological derangements which occurred during acute or chronic HBV *** evidence suggests that it can favour the progression of liver fibrosis and the development of hepatocellular carcinoma.

AIM To investigate whether common variants in the oxidative pathway genes influence inflammatory bowel disease(IBD) risk among Moroccan patients. METHODS The distribution of(TAAA)n_rs12720460 and(CCTTT)n_rs3833912 NOS2 A microsatellite repeats, HIF-1 A_rs11549467 and NFKB1-94 ins/delA TTG_rs28362491 was analyzed in 507 subjects grouped in 199 IBD and 308 healthy controls. Genotyping was performed withpolymerase chain reaction-fluorescent method and the TaqMan~? allelic discrimination *** The allele and genotype frequencies of HIF1 A_ rs11549467, NFKB1_rs28362491 and NOS2 A_(TAAA)n did not differ significantly between patients and controls. Analysis of NOS2 A_(CCTTT)n markers evidenced differences between patients and healthy controls. A preferential presence of the(CCTTT)8(P = 0.02; OR = 1.71, 95%CI: 1.07-2.74),(CCTTT)14(P = 0.02; OR = 1.71, 95%CI: 1.06-2.76) alleles in IBD,(CCTTT)8(P = 0.008; OR = 1.95, 95%CI: 1.17-3.23) in CD and(CCTTT)7(P = 0.009; OR = 7.61, 95%CI: 1.25-46.08),(CCTTT)11(P = 0.05; OR = 0.51, 95%CI: 0.25-1.01),(CCTTT)14(P = 0.02; OR = 2.05, 95%CI: 1.07-3.94),(CCTTT)15(P = 0.01; OR = 2.25, 95%CI: 1.16-4.35) repeats in UC patients indicated its possible association with higher disease risk which need to be confirmed in a larger sample size. CONCLUSION Our results suggest that the NOS2 A_(CCTTT)n gene variations may influence IBD susceptibility in the Moroccan population.
