Crohn’s disease(CD)remains a chronic,incurable disorder that presents unique challenges to the *** factors must be considered to allow development of an appropriate treatment *** therapy often precedes or complements the surgical *** indications for operative management of CD include acute and chronic disease complications and failed medical *** surgery comes into play when patients are refractory to medical treatment if they have an obstructive *** colitis,acute obstruction,perforation,acute abscess,or massive hemorrhage represent indications for emergency *** patients are generally in critical conditions and present with intra-abdominal sepsis and a preoperative status of immunosuppression and malnutrition that exposes them to a higher risk of complications and mortality.A multidisciplinary team including surgeons,gastroenterologists,radiologists,nutritional support services,and enterostomal therapists are required for optimal patient care and decision *** of each emergency should be individualized based on patient age,disease type and duration,and patient goals of ***,the recurrent nature of disease mandates that we continue searching for innovative medical therapies and operative techniques that reduce the need to repeat surgical *** this review,we aimed to discuss the acute complications of CD and their treatment.

High density lipoproteins (HDL) promote the efflux of excess cholesterol from peripheral tissues to the liver for excretion. This ability is responsible for the most relevant anti-atherogenic effect of HDL. The ability of HDL to promote cholesterol efflux results also in the modulation of a series of responses in the immune cells involved in atherosclerosis,includingmonocyte-macrophages, B and T ***, during inflammation, the composition of this class of lipoproteins varies to a large extent, thus promoting the formation of dysfunctional HDL. The aim of this review is to discuss the emerging role of HDL in modulating the activity of immune cells and immune-inflammatory mediators during atherogenesis.

Effects of calibration process on the simulation of rear-end conflicts at roundabouts

A methodology for calibrating and validating VISSIM simulation model is presented that allows to replicate the observed vehicles conflicts. A roundabout case study has been selected to test the usefulness of a combined approach of VISSIM simulation package and the surrogate safety assessment model(SSAM) for providing reliable estimates of traffic conflicts. Safety performance has been assessed from the field by video-recording vehicle interactions at the roundabout, and then expressed in terms of time to collision(TTC)*** proposed calibration procedure has been performed by a multistage methodology involving microscopic drivers' car following behavior parameters to enhance the correlation between observed and simulated queue lengths at the roundabout's entries. The calibration procedure is based on a statistical screening of inputs leading to a linear expression relating significant parameters to the queue length. The best estimates of the model's parameters have been determined using a genetic algorithm *** spatial distribution of the rear-end conflicts and the TTC values determined by SSAM have been finally compared with the observed ones to analyze the capability of the model of replicating rear-end *** results suggest to this calibration procedure impacts positively on the estimate of the safety performance measures obtained through the simulation *** the good results in the evaluation of the model's accuracy, the simulation seems to fail in reproducing the traffic phenomena linked to unusual driving behavior, and therefore it is not able to replicate forced drivers' maneuvers that can lead to a conflict situation.

A design approach is presented in this paper for underactuation in robotic finger mechanisms. The characters of underactuated finger mechanisms are introduced as based on linkage and spring systems. The feature of self-adaptive enveloping grasp by underactuated finger mechanisms is discussed with feasible in grasping unknown objects. The design problem of robotic fingers is analyzed by looking at many aspects for an optimal functionality. Design problems and requirements for underactuated mechanisms are formulated as related to human-like robotic fingers. In particular, characteristics of finger mechanisms are analyzed and optimality criteria are summarized with the aim to formulate a general design algorithm. A general multi-objective optimization design approach is applied as based on a suitable optimization problem by using suitable expressions of optimality criteria. An example is illustrated as an improvement of finger mechanism in Laboratory of Robotics and Mechatronics （LARM） Hand. Results of design outputs and grasp simulations are reported with the aim to show the practical feasibility of the proposed concepts and computations.

In this paper, we are interested in answering the following research question: "Is it possible to form effective groups in virtual communities by exploiting trust information without significant overhead, similarly to real user communities?"In order to answer this question, instead of adopting the largely used approach of exploiting the opinions provided by all the users of the community(called global reputation), we propose to use a particular form of reputation, called local reputation. We also propose an algorithm for group formation able to implement the proposed procedure to form effective groups in virtual communities. Another interesting question is how to measure the effectiveness of groups in virtual communities. To this aim we introduce the index in a measure of the effectiveness of the group formation. We tested our algorithm by realizing some experimental trials on real data from the real world EPINIONS and CIAO communities, showing the significant advantages of our procedure w.r.t. another prominent approach based on traditional global reputation.

Background:There is increasing interest in evaluating home-range overlap(or,otherwise,segregation)between bird species,and between or within bird populations,to inform spatial *** far,studies of home-range overlap typically make use of comparisons between pairs of individuals,populations or species,and return a matrix of pairwise overlaps(e.g.,percent overlaps).However,when the number of individuals,populations or species to be compared is elevated,an overlarge overlap matrix is difficult to interpret from an ecological ***:We propose here a new,conceptually simple and computationally efficient index(general overlap index;GOI)for the ready computation within GIS of home range overlap of an arbitrarily large number(i.e.,n≥2)of individuals,populations or *** the number of home ranges to be compared,GOI always returns a single score between 0 and *** a case study,we applied our index to 24,074 GPS points of 10 Lesser Kestrels(Falco naumanni)in order to estimate within-colony and between-colony overlaps in two neighboring colonies in Southern ***:Within-colony overlap was elevated for both colonies(96.41%at Cassano delle Murge,n=5 individuals;81.38%at Santeramo in Colle,n=5 individuals),while between-colony overlap was low(19.12%;n=2 colonies)and,after a randomization procedure,more spatially-segregated than expected by ***:Modern biotelemetry offers huge amounts of data describing the space use of animal *** use of intuitive and straightforward indices,like GOI,can be useful to promptly extract ecological information from such an amount of data(*** change in space use over successive years,evaluating the reliability of various home-range estimators).
