We present u＇g＇R optical images taken with the MMT/Megacam and the Subaru/Suprime telescopes of the Extended Groth Strip survey. The total survey covers an area of about -1 degree2, including four sub-fields and is optimized for the study of galaxies at z - 3. Our methods for photometric calibration in AB magnitudes, the limiting magnitude and the galaxy number count are described. A sample of 1642 photometrically selected candidate Lyman-Break Galaxies （LBGs） to an apparent RAB magnitude limit of 25.0 is presented. The average sky surface density of our LBG sample is -1.0 arcmin-2, slightly higher than the previous finding.

Aberrant Squamous Cell Carcinoma Antigen (SCCA) expression is an early hepatocarcinogenetic event and circulating SCCA-IgM complexes are elevated in most HCC patients. We evaluated whether serum SCCA-IgM levels can identify HCV +ve cirrhotic patients at low HCC risk. In this retrospective study we enrolled 29 cirrhotic patients in whom serum SCCA-IgM was measured 8 - 69 months (median 31) before HCC diagnosis, and 28 cirrhotic patients who remained HCC- free, with SCCA-IgM measured 15 - 68 months (median 48) before the study end. The best discriminating value of SCCA-IgM was calculated and tested in predicting HCC diagnosis within 12, 24 and 36 months. Sensitivity analysis, considering different HCC incidence, was conducted to identify the patient subgroup with an annual cancer risk below the threshold of a cost-effective semiannual surveillance with ultrasound. Cumulative HCC incidence at 12, 24 and 36 months was 7.0%, 15.7% and 26.3%, respectively. SCCA-IgM levels were higher in HCC than in cirrhotic patients [median: 381 (95% C.I.: 50 - 5289) vs. 100 (70 - 493) AU/mL, P = 0.005]. The SCCA-IgM value ≤ 200 AU/mL accurately identified patients at low risk of HCC development in the subsequent year (sensitivity 75%, specificity 62%, positive predictive value 13% and negative predictive value 97%). Considering an annual HCC incidence ≤ 3%, patients with SCCA-IgM ≤ 200 AU/mL (60% of the whole patients) had an HCC risk below the accepted threshold of a cost-effective surveillance (1.5%). In conclusion, provided that our provocative results are confirmed in larger studies, SCCA-IgM serum measurement could permit implementation of a two step (with different costs) surveillance: an initial serological surveillance, based on the annual monitoring of this biomarker, and the conventional surveillance by semiannual US when SCCA-IgM becomes >200 AU/mL. This could improve the cost/effectiveness of surveillance of HCV infected patients at risk of HCC.

AIM:To investigate the serovirological prevalence and clinical features of hepatitis E virus(HEV) infection in end-stage renal failure patients and in the healthy ***:HEV infection is a viral disease that can cause sporadic and epidemic *** studies unexpectedly showed a high prevalence of HEV antibodies in immunosuppressed subjects,including hemodialysis(HD)patients and patients who had undergone kidney transplant.A cohort/case-control study was carried out from January 2012 to August 2013 in two hospitals in southern Italy(Foggia and *** Rotondo,Apulia).The seroprevalence of HEV was determined in 801 subjects;231 HD patients,120 renal transplant recipients,and450 health *** HD patients and the recipients of renal transplants were attending the Departments of Nephrology and Dialysis at two hospitals located in Southern Italy,and were included progressively in this *** samples were tested for HEV antibodies(Ig G/Ig M);in the case of positivity they were confirmed by a Western blot assay and were also tested for HEV-RNA,and the HEV genotypes were ***:A total of 30/801(3.7%)patients were positive for anti-HEV Ig(Ig G and/or Ig M)and by Western *** healthy population presented with a prevalence of 2.7%,HD patients had a prevalence of 6.0%,and transplant recipients had a prevalence of 3.3%.The overall combined HEV-positive prevalence in the two groups with chronic renal failure was 5.1%.The rates of exposure to HEV(positivity of HEV-Ig G/M in the early samples)were lower in the healthy controls,but the difference among the three groups was not statistically significant(P>0.05).Positivity for anti-HEV/Ig M was detected in 4/30(13.33%)anti-HEV Ig positive individuals,in 2/14 HD patients,in1/4 transplant individuals,and in 1/12 of the healthy *** relative risk of being HEV-Ig M-positive was significantly higher among transplant recipients compared to the other two groups(OR=65.4,95%CI:7.

AIM: To determine the DNA binding activity and protein levels of the Ku70/80 heterodimer, the functional mediator of the NHEJ activity, in human colorectal ***: The Ku70/80 DNA-binding activity was determined by electrophoretic mobility shift assays in 20 colon adenoma and 15 colorectal cancer samples as well as matched normal colonic tissues. Nuclear and cytoplasmic protein expression was determined by immunohistochemistry and Western blot ***: A statistically significant difference was found in both adenomas and carcinomas as compared to matched normal colonic mucosa (P＜0.00). However,changes in binding activity were not homogenous with approximately 50% of the tumors showing a clear increase in the binding activity, 30% displaying a modest increase and 15% showing a decrease of the ***, with increased DNA-binding activity, also showed a statistically significant increase in Ku70 and Ku86nuclear expression, as determined by Western blot and immunohistochemical analyses (P＜0.001). Cytoplasmic protein expression was found in pathological samples,but not in normal tissues either from tumor patients or from healthy ***: Overall, our DNA-binding activity and protein level are consistent with a substantial activation of the NHEJ pathway in colorectal tumors. Since the NHEJ is an error prone mechanism, its abnormal activation can result in chromosomal instability and ultimately lead to tumorigenesis.

目的评估联合节段性肺动脉化疗栓塞术(SPACE)和经皮射频(RF)消融术治疗肺肿瘤不能切除/可切除但拒绝手术的病人的可行性、安全性和有效性,并与既往单独应用射频消融治疗的肿瘤局部进展(LTP)率进行比较。材料与方法经机构委员会批准并获得知情同意书后,17例原发肺癌并伴转移的病人纳入此项前瞻性研究。2008年1月—2011年2月间在19个疗程内对20个结节(直径中位数为3.0cm,范围2.0～5.0cm)进行治疗。选择性将附着在50～100μm微粒上的抗肿瘤药注入至特定的肺动脉。SPACE治疗48h后行经皮CT引导下的肺结节射频消融治疗。联合治疗后的48h、30d及此后的每3个月均行增强CT检查。联合治疗后3个月及此后每6个月行氟-18-脱氧葡萄糖正电子发射扫描。采用t检验行组间比较。结果所有病例均顺利完成联合治疗。在SPECT检查中,与SPACE治疗后无通气的肺实质相比,通气的肺实质显示区域更为广泛。直径为3～5cm的肿瘤LTP率为21%(3/14结节),3cm或直径更小的肿瘤LTP率为0(0/6结节)。至少6个月时,65%(11/17)的病人显示完全应答。总体而言,治疗的耐受性良好。主要并发症为气胸(5/19疗程,26%)和支气管胸膜瘘(1/19疗程,5%)。未发生与治疗相关的总体肺功能变化。结论 SPACE术后联合射频消融治疗不可切除的肺肿瘤在技术上是可行、安全和有效的,并较单独应用射频消融治疗具有优势。
