It is known that the performances of multi-phase reactors depend on the operating parameters(the temperature and the pressure of the system),the phase properties,and the design parameters(the aspect ratio(AR),the bubble column diameter,and the gas sparger design).Hence,the precise design and the correct operation of multi-phase reactors depends on the understanding and prediction of the fluid dynamics *** paper contributes to the existing discussion on the effect of operating and design parameter on multi-phase reactors and,in particular,it considers an industrial process(e.g.,the LOPROX(low pressure oxidation)case study,which is typical example of two-phase bubble columns).Based on a previously-validated set of correlations,the influence of operating and design parameter on system performances is studied and critically ***,we studied the effects of the design parameter on the liquid–gas interfacial area,by keeping constant the fluid physical–chemical properties as well as the operating conditions;subsequently,we discussed for a fixed system design,the influence of the liquid phase properties and the operating *** conclusion,this paper is intended to provide guidelines for the design and scale-up of multi-phase reactors.

The aim of this work is to optimize iron nanoparticle production in stirred tank reactors equipped with two classical impellers:Rushton and four-pitched blade turbines,which are largely used in batch industrial synthesis and efficient *** main operative parameters of nanoparticle synthesis are the precursor initial concentration,reducing agent/precursor molar ratio,impeller-tank clearance,and impeller rotational *** parameters were varied during the synthesis to find the optimal operating values based on the Fe(0)(%)production,zeta potential,particle size distribution,and powder X-ray diffraction pattern *** found that the optimal operating conditions for nanoparticle production were an impeller velocity of 1500 rpm,initial iron precursor concentration of 20 mM,molar ratio of reducing agent to iron precursor of 3 mol/mol,and impeller clearance of 0.25 and 0.4 times the vessel diameter for Rushton and four-pitched blade impellers,*** these conditions achieved a total conversion of 0.94-0.98 and yielded a product with a unimodal size distribution and average diameters in the range 30-50 *** computational fluid dynamics results agreed with the expectations,and the obtained mixing Damkohler numbers show that the process is mixed controlled.

The aim of this study was to ascertain whether some patients with psychogenic erectile dysfunction （PED） who chose psychotherapy spontaneously improved their sexual function immediately after diagnosis. Two hundred eighty-five patients with PED were retrospectively studied. Complete resolution of PED was analyzed regarding age, primary or secondary PED, marital status, domestic status, prevailing attitude of the female partner to the dysfunction, duration of their partnership, social status, duration of PED, International Index of Erectile Function score, and prevailing attitude of the patient after a diagnosis of PED. The data were analyzed using post-hoc tests. PED was resolved in 32.3% of the patients immediately after diagnosis. These patients were older, more frequently affected by secondary ED, more frequently living with their partner, and more frequently resigned or happy with the diagnosis of PED than the patients who did not resolve their PED. A nonchalant or cooperative female attitude to PED improved the possibility of PED resolution. The other variables did not influence PED resolution. Our data showed that a clear-cut diagnosis of psychogenic erectile deficiency and some psychosocial factors were critical for the management of some patients with PED.

Reliable 3D modelling of underground hydrocarbon reservoirs is a challenging task due to the complexity of the underground geological formations and to the availability of different types of data that are typically affected by uncertainties. In the case of geologically complex depositional environments, such as fractured hydrocarbon reservoirs, the uncertainties involved in the modelling process demand accurate analysis and quantification in order to provide a reliable confidence range of volumetric estimations. In the present work, we used a 3D model of a fractured carbonate reservoir and populated it with different lithological and petrophysical properties. The available dataset also included a discrete fracture network(DFN) property that was used to model the fracture distribution. Uncertainties affecting lithological facies, their geometry and absolute positions(related to the fault system), fracture distribution and petrophysical properties were accounted for. We included all different types of uncertainties in an automated approach using tools available in today’s modelling software packages and combining all the uncertain input parameters in a series of statistically representative geological realizations. In particular, we defined a specific workflow for the definition of the absolute permeability according to an equivalent, single porosity approach, taking into account the contribution of both the matrix and the fracture system. The results of the analyses were transferred into a 3D numerical fluid-dynamic simulator to evaluate the propagation of the uncertainties associated to the input data down to the final results, and to assess the dynamic response of the reservoir following a selected development plan. The "integrated approach" presented in this paper can be useful for all technicians involved in the construction and validation of 3D numerical models of hydrocarbon-bearing reservoirs and can potentially become part of the educational training for youn

CFD Study of Ejector Flow Behavior in a Blast Furnace Gas Galvanizing Plant

In recent years, there has been a growing interest toward Blast Furnace Gas （BFG） as a low-grade energy source for industrial furnaces. This paper considers the revamping of a galvanic plant furnace converted to BFG from natural gas. In the design of the new system, the ejector on the exhaust line is a critical component. This paper studies the flow behavior of the ejector using a Computational Fluid Dynamics （CFD） analysis. The CFD model is based on a 3D representation of the ejector, using air and exhaust gases as working fluids. This paper is divided in three parts. In the first part, the galvanic plant used as case study is presented and discussed, in the second part the CFD approach is outlined, and in the third part the CFD approach is validated using experimental data and the numerical results are presented and discussed. Different Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes （RANS） turbulence models （k-to SST and k-e Realizable） are evaluated in terms of convergence capability and accuracy in predicting the pressure drop along the ejector. Suggestions for future optimization of the system are also provided.

The interaction of regular quasi-monochromatic waves with a weakly submerged rectangular shelf is studied by means of CFD simulations. The fundamental incident wave frequency is kept constant for the full set of simulated cases, while the incident wave amplitude is made increase progressively, so that the interaction with the shelf is dominated by almost inviscid non-linear flow for the smallest and by breaking for the highest incident waves. A parameter identification（PI） procedure is used to adapt a reduced model to the highly resolved time-space matrix of wave elevations obtained from the numerical simulations, on the weather and lee side respectively. In particular the wave number and the frequency of the component waves in the reduced model are left uncoupled, thus computed by the PI independently. The comparison of simulated data with experiments generally shows a very good agreement. Free/locked, incident/reflected, first/higher order wave components are quantified accurately by the PI and the energy transfer to super-harmonics is clearly evidenced. Moreover the results of the PI show clearly a very large increase in the phase speed of the higher order free waves on the lee side of the shelf, with increasing deviation from the linear behavior with increasing incident wave amplitude.

In this study the copper and lead adsorption efficiency onto banana peels powder was investigated. The agroindustrial waste recovery represents one of the Circular Economy pillars. In the view of the synthesis of an environmentally friendly adsorbent material, the powder was used without any preliminary chemical or thermal activation, but only after simple washing, drying and grinding. The bio-adsorbent was characterized by the FTIR technique and tested in batch mode on synthetic aqueous solutions containing Pb and Cu in the range 10–90 mg·L^(-1). A selection of two(Langmuir, Freundlich) and three(Sips, Redlich–Peterson, Koble–Corrigan) parameter isotherm models was chosen to fit adsorption equilibrium data by non-linear regression procedure. The best fit isotherm model was selected relying on the error function with the lowest average percentage error(APE) value, among those characterized by the highest R^2 values. As expected, the three-parameter models are found to better represent both metals bio-adsorption, with APE and R^2 values always lower and higher, respectively, than the corresponding values obtained for the two-parameter models.
