Subgrade reaction modulus (Ks) is one of the main factors in evaluating engineering properties of soils for structural calculations and operations. So, many studies have been performed on the effect of other soil geotechnical parameters on it. One is the effect of soil grains shape on engineering properties of soils, especially Ks. The aim of the present research is to evaluate the effect of soil grains shape on Ks for coarse-grained soils of the west of Mashhad, Iran. For this purpose, 20 PLTs were performed on coarse-grained soils of the west of Mashhad and Ks amounts were determined. Then, flakiness and elongation of the samples measured and changes of Ks by soil grain shape were evaluated. The results showed the strength dependency of Ks to grain forms which an increase in flakiness and elongation indices leads to a decrease in Ks. Therefore, it is necessary to reduce Ks estimated form empirical relationships for flaky and elongated soils. So, by writing a genetic algorithm-based program to find the optimal relationship between the grain shape and the subgrade reaction coefficient, a valid equation for correcting the results from previous empirical equations was presented.

A field study was conducted at the Agricultural Research Farm of Razi University, Kermanshah, Iran to investigate the effects of phosphate biofertilizer, row spacing and plant density on corn yield and weed growth. The experiment was a factorial with three factors arranged in a randomized complete block design with three replications. The first factor was phosphate biofertilizer (inoculation and non-inoculation), the second was row spacing (conventional (75 cm) and reduced (50 cm)) and the third was plant density (66,666 plants·ha–1 (conventional plant density) 83,333 and 99,999 plants·ha–1 (1.25 and 1.5 times the conventional plant density, respectively)). Results indicated that corn yield and weed growth were significantly influenced by row spacing and plant density. So that, corn yield improved and weed biomass diminished in response to increasing plant density and decreasing row spacing. However, phosphate biofertilizer had no significant effect on corn yield, whereas, weed biomass was notably increased when phosphate biofertilizer was applied. Overall, this study revealed that both yield and weed control in corn field can be improved by alteration of the planting arrangement.

Shear wave velocity (Vs) is one of the most important parameters of a geological model to assess the site effect and the ground response. In this paper the spatial variability of shear wave velocity in Mashhad capital city are investigated. For this purpose, 243 Vs profiles of different projects throughout the city were used. Based on the Vs profiles the iso-level maps of the Vs interfaces 300, 500, 750, 950 and 1200 m/s were obtained by kriging interpolation method. The best semivariogram models were obtained with changing the effective parameters and assessing the components of the models and spatial dependence. The best models for the entire interfaces were exponential. Based on these models, the spatial dependence of depth data was moderate to strong. The performance of interpolations was checked by cross-validation and its indices?i.e. mean standardized prediction errors (MSPR), root mean square prediction errors (RMSPE), average kriging standard error (AKSE), and root mean square standardized prediction errors (RMSSPE) were assessed. A trend of depth increasing towards the northeast was observed at all of the interfaces.

Getting aware of one kind of soil surface attributs is very important. Assessment of important attributes of soil and vegetation can help us to be aware of rangeland potential and help us to determine its situation. The goal of this research is to determine some plant and soil indicators of hilly winter rangelands of Eastern and Southern slopes of Chaharbagh region in Golestan province. By considering plant cover and soil surface attributes, it used the SSCC （soil surface classification） method to assess soil surface attributes. The length and width of ecological patches were measured in the forms of lichen, lichen-Grass, forbs, shrub and bare soil inter patches with litter. Also in this research, it measured the 11 soil surface parameters. These parameters are belonging to three main soil attributes stability, infiltration and nutrient cycles. These three indicators were measured in east and west of Eastern and Southern slopes of this ecosystem and showed significance differences （p 〈 0.05） in shrub, forbs and lichen-grass. In southern and especially in west aspect, these indicators in shrub were more than Eastern. But, in lossy hill of Eastern, lichen-grass patch is more significant. The most important ecological indicators of east landscapes of this region are forbs and lichen-grass.

Background: Hydatidosis or echinococcosis is one of the most important economic and public health problems in many regions of the world that livestock are kept such as Iran. This study was to determine the prevalence of hydatid cyst in slaughtered livestock in Kermanshah (west Iran) (2012). Methods: This descriptive-analytic study was carried out on all slaughtered livestock during 24 months period, from March 2012 until February 2013. 70,020 carcasses were observed and inspected (including: 24,507 cattle, 35,010 sheep and 10,503 goats). All cysts were examined under direct microscopy for determine the kind of cysts (fertile and infertile cyst). Results: The prevalence of hydatid cyst was 2.20% in cattle, 2.78% in sheep and 0.19% in goat. Liver in cattle with 1.42%, in sheep with 2.25%, and in goat with 0.13% was contaminated. Also lung in cattle with 0.76%, in sheep with 0.53%, and in goat with 0.06% was contaminated. Heart was contaminated only in cattle with 0.024%. Sheep with 45% and goat with 90.47% had highest fertile cyst and infertile cyst, respectively. Conclusion: The prevalence rate of hydatid cyst in slaughtered livestock in Kermanshah was lowest, as compared with other regions of Iran. Despite this, hygienic programs should be done in order to decrease, control and prevent of parasitic infection.

Dikes can be divided into sheeted, feeder, cone and swarm types based on the origin and the formation. A group of dikes that are formed in dense in a relatively broad zone influenced by a particular tectonic regime are referred to as swarm dikes. Swarm dikes have numerous applications such as locating mantle plume centers, determining areas of longstanding tensions and detection of deformation networks. The purpose of this article is classified swarm dikes of “North of Saveh” based on previous studies. In one study, swarm dikes are classified based on their initial geometry into five types of I, II, III, IV and V. According to this classification, our study has been shown that the dikes in north of Saveh are of type IV. In another study, the swarm dikes are classified into three types: parallel, large radial and small radial. According to the classification, our study has been shown that the dikes of North Saveh are parallel that have arisen by tensions caused by the collision of the Arabian plate and the Central Iran plate. In addition to original tensions in the region, local faults have been effective on the arrangement and the establishment of dikes.

The objectives of the study were to assess colostrum quality and nutrients in dairy cows in Isfahan, Iran, and to determine the effects of calving season, parity, and volume of first colostrum on colostrum quality. Colostrum samples were collected over the period January-December, from 365 Holstein dairy cows from 12 dairy farms and analyzed for their IgG, IgM, total solids, fat, protein, lactose, Ca, and P concentrations. The IgG and IgM contents were measured to be 35.8 ± 17.6 and 5.8 ± 3.8 mg/mL, respectively. Mean percentages of total solids, fat, protein, and lactose in the samples were 27.2 ± 5.8, 4.6 ± 3.4, 18.5 ± 4.9, and 2.0 ± 0.9, respectively while calcium and P concentrations were 2.69 ± 0.9 and 2.02 ± 0.88 g/kg. Colostral IgG and IgM concentrations were found to be higher during the winter months. Calving season affected lactose, Ca, and P concentrations as evidenced by the higher colostral lactose percentages in cows calved in the fall but higher calcium and P concentrations in those calved in the summer. Parity had no significant effects on IgG and IgM concentrations. However, a decreasing trend was observed in Ca and P concentrations with increasing parity. Volume of first milking colostrum did not have any effect on colostral composition. The findings of this study indicate that colostrum quality may be affected by calving season.

Objective: Eryngium with the 274 accepted species, is the largest genus of Apiaceae family which are distributed all over the world and have been used in traditional remedies to manage various ailments in different nations. Ten species of Eryngium have been identified in Iran including E. caeruleum M.B.(syn: E. caucasicum Trautv.), E. creticum Lam., E. bungei Boiss., E. billardieri F. Delaroche.(syn: E. kotschyi Boiss.), E. glomeratum Lam.(syn: E. parviflorum Sm.), E. bornumulleri Nab., E. pyramidale Boiss.& Husson., E. noeanum Boiss., E. wanaturi Woron.(syn: E. woronowii Bordz.), and E. thyrsoideum Boiss. The aim of the present research is to review pharmacological activity, and phytochemical constituents as well as ethnobotany and traditional uses of Iranian species of Eryngium. Materials and methods: Electronic databases including PubMed, Scopus, Science Direct (ISI Web of Knowledge) and Embase library were comprehensively searched for research on Eryngium. The search period was from 1966 to October 2018. The related articles were selected according to the inclusion and exclusion criterias in our study. Results: A total of 57 papers were enrolled in analyses. The findings showed that Iranian species of Eryngium, had a noticeable diverse of traditional medicinal uses and also broad range of pharmacological activities as well as various phytochemical compounds. Some remarkable biological and pharmacological activities of these species have been demonstrated in present scientific studies, including antimicrobial, cytotoxic and anticancer, anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antinociceptive activities as well as antioxidant, antidiabetic, anti-snake and anti-scorpion venom effects. Conclusion: Iranian Eryngium species have enormous potential for prospective preparation of herbal medicinal products and are good candidates for discovering new drugs.

Objective: The genus fumaria includes more than 40 species in the world. The aim of this study was to quantify the phytochemical constituents of Fumaria vaillantii L. aerial parts and compare the different methods of extraction. Total phenol, total flavonoid, total alkaloid, ascorbic and organic acids (oxalic, maleic, citric, succinic and fumaric acids) yields were evaluated in terms of the temperature effect, type of solvent and maceration time. Methods: Dried plant samples were extracted by different procedures. Total phenolic, total flavonoid, total alkaloid and ascorbic acid yields were determined by spectrophotometric methods. Also, the organic acid yields were analyzed using high performance liquid chromatography method. Results: With the same extraction method, the natural flora extract was showed more yields of oxalic, maleic and citric acids than the commercial one, while the commercial extract was showed more yields of total phenol, ascorbic, succinic and fumaric acids than the natural flora one. The water-boiled extract was showed more yields of total phenol and total flavonoid. The macerated in ethanol 80% extract was also demonstrated more amounts of total alkaloid and ascorbic acid. Among different aqueous macerated extracts of the commercial sample, as the maceration time increased, total phenol, total flavonoid, oxalic, maleic, succinic, fumaric and ascorbic acids yields decreased. Macerated commercial dried fumitory in double-distilled water for 24 hrs resulted in an extract with the highest possible fumaric acid yield. Conclusion: It can be concluded that both water-boiled and macerated in ethanol 80% extracts can be used as rich sources of total phenolic and total flavonoid, which are considered as the important antioxidants.
