We present a chemical vapor deposition(CVD)method for the growth of uniform single-walled carbon nanotube(SWNT)arrays on a stable temperature(ST)-cut single crystal quartz substrate using a mixture of methanol and ethanol as carbon *** is found that introducing methanol during the growth can improve the density and the length of the well-aligned SWNTs in the arrays as well as increase the SWNT/quartz ***“up-shifts”of G-band frequencies in the Raman spectra have been found for the aligned SWNTs.A well-designed control experiment shows that the G-band“up-shifts”originate from the strong interaction between SWNTs and the quartz *** is believed that exploring this interaction will help to elucidate the growth mechanism;ultimately,this will help realize the promise of controlling the chirality of SWNTs.

purpose: Interstitial cystitis/Bladder pain syndrome is an inflammatory disorder of the bladder, for which histamine has been implicated in the pathogenesis of the disease. The condition is often refractory to standard-of-care medical treatments, including the antihistamines hydroxyzine or cimetidine, and procedures. Herein we report a physician-sponsored proof-of-principle case series of four adult female patients with chronic painful bladder and frequent urination, who were treated once daily with a low dose H1 + H2 histamine receptor antagonist combination. Materials and Methods: Four adult females with Interstitial cystitis/Bladder pain syndrome were treated once daily with a compounded oral dosage form containing the H1 receptor antagonist-cetirizine 8 mg in combination with the H2 receptor antagonist-famotidine 22 mg. The case series consists of a retrospective review of the symptom severity prior to versus following H1 + H2 treatment. Results and Conclusions: The once daily dual histamine receptor antagonist therapy substantially reduced the pain and urination frequency, and prophylactically maintained all four patients long-term with substantially reduced disease severity. The reduction in symptom severity was achieved at amounts that do not exceed the US FDA approved and exceptionally safe daily doses for the two over-the-counter monotherapies. This case series provides proof-of-principle evidence that a dual antihistamine combination of cetirizine plus famotidine effectively treated and maintained female patients, who were previously refractory to standard-of-care medications and/or procedures.

Our objective was to identify predictors of improved postthaw semen quality in men with testicular cancer banking sperm for fertility preservation. We reviewed 173 individual semen samples provided by 67 men with testicular germ cell tumor （TGCT） who cryopreserved sperm before gonadotoxic treatment between 1994 and 2010 at our tertiary university medical center. Our main outcomes measures were independent predictors for the greater postthaw total motile count （TMC） in men with TGCT. Men with NSGCT were more likely to be younger （p 〈 0.01） and had high cancer stage （Ⅱ or Ⅲ, p 〈 0.01） compared with men with seminoma. In our multiple regression model, NSGCT histology, use of density gradient purification, and fresh TMC 〉 median fresh TMC each had increased odds of a postthaw TMC greater than median postthaw TMC. Interestingly, age, advanced cancer stage （11 or III）, rapid freezing protocol, and motility enhancer did not show increased odds of improved postthaw TMC in our models. In conclusion, men with TGCT or poor fresh TMC should consider preserving additional vials （at least 15 vials） before oncologic treatment. Density gradient purification should be routinely used to optimize postthaw TMC in men with TGCT. Larger, randomized studies evaluating cancer stage and various cryopreservation techniques are needed to assist in counseling men with TGCT regarding fertility preservation and optimizing cryosurvival.

Understanding how small molecules interface with amyloid fibrils at the nanoscale is of importance for developing therapeutic treatments against amyloid-based diseases. Here, we show for the first time that human islet amyloid polypeptides （LApp） in the fibrillar form are polymorphic, ambidextrous, and possess multiple periodicities. Upon interfacing with the small molecule epigallocatechin gallate （EGCG）, IApp aggregation was rendered off-pathway and assumed a form with soft and disordered clusters, while mature IApp fibrils displayed kinks and branching but conserved the twisted fibril morphology. These nanoscale phenomena resulted from competitive interactions between EGCG and the IApp amyloidogenic region, as well as end capping of the fibrils by the small molecule. This information is crucial in delineating IApp toxicity implicated in type 2 diabetes and for developing new inhibitors against amyloidogenesis.

Objective To measure the intraobserver concordance of an experienced genitourinary radiologist reporting of multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging of the prostate(mpMRIp)scans over *** An experienced genitourinary radiologist re-reported his original 100 consecutive mpMRIp scans using prostate Imaging-Reporting and Data System version 2(pI-RADS v2)after 5 years of further experience comprising>1000 *** agreement was measured using Cohen's ***,specificity,negative predictive value(NpV),positive predictive value(ppV),and accuracy were calculated,and comparison of sensitivity was performed using McNemar's *** Ninety-six mpMRIp scans were included in our final *** the 96 patients,53(55.2%)patients underwent subsequent biopsy(n=43)or prostatectomy(n=15),with 73 lesions *** agreement(Cohen's kappa 0.55)was seen in the number of lesions identified at initial reporting and on re-reading(81 vs.39 total lesions;and 71 vs.37 number of pI-RADS≥3 lesions).For clinically significant prostate cancer,re-reading demonstrated an increase in specificity(from 43%to 89%)and ppV(from 62%to 87%),but a decrease in sensitivity(from 94%to 72%,p=0.01)and NpV(from 89%to 77%).Conclusion The intraobserver agreement for a novice to experienced radiologist reporting mpMRIp using pI-RADS v2 is *** sensitivity is off-set by improved specificity and ppV,which validate mpMRIp as a gold standard for prebiopsy screening.
