Mangrove forests are productive ecosystems,acting as a sink for CO_(2),a habitat for a diverse array of terrestrial and marine species,and as a natural barrier to coastline *** species that reside within mangrove ecosystems have important roles to play,including litter decomposition and the recycling of *** are important detritivores in such ecosystems and understanding their limitations(***)is an important endeavour when considering the larger ecological services *** and metagenomics were used to identify viral(Nudiviridae,Alphaflexiviridae),bacterial(paracoccus sp.,'Candidatus Gracilibacteria sp.’,and pseudoalteromonas sp.),protozoan,fungal,and metazoan diversity that compose the symbiome of the mangrove crab,Aratus *** symbiotic groups were observed at varying prevalence under histology:nudivirus(6.5%),putative gut epithelial virus(3.2%),ciliated protozoa(35.5%),gonad fungus(3.2%),gill ectoparasitic metazoan(6.5%).Metagenomic analysis of one specimen exhibiting a nudivirus infection provided the complete host mitochondrial genome(15,642 bp),nudivirus genome(108,981 bp),and the genome of a Cassava common mosaic virus isolate(6387 bp).Our phylogenetic analyses group the novel nudivirus with the Gammanudivirus and protein similarity searches indicate that Carcinus maenas nudivrius is the most similar to the new *** mitochondrial genome were used to mine short fragments used in population genetic studies to gauge an idea of diversity in this host species across the USA,Caribbean,and central and southern *** study report several new symbionts based on their pathology,taxonomy,and genomics(where available)and discuss what effect they may have on the crab *** role of mangrove crabs from a OneHealth perspective were explored,since their pathobiome includes cassava-infecting ***,given that this species is abundant in mangrove forests and now boasts a well-described pathogen prof

Estimation of citrus canker lesion size using hyperspectral reflectance imaging

The Citrus industry has need for effective approaches to remove fruit with canker before they are shipped to selective international market such as the European *** research aims to determine the detectable size limit for cankerous lesions using hyperspectral imaging *** developed multispectral algorithms using visible to near-infrared wavelengths,were used to segregate cankerous citrus fruits from other peel conditions(normal,greasy spot,insect damage,melanose,scab and wind scar).However,this previous work did not consider lesion size.A two-band ratio method with a simple threshold based classifier(ratio of reflectance at wavelengths 834 nm and 729 nm),which gave maximum overall classification accuracy of 95.7%,was selected for lesion size estimation in this *** smallest size of cankerous lesion detected in terms of equivalent diameter was 1.66 *** effect of variation of threshold values and number of erosion cycles(applying morphological erosion multiple times to the image)on estimation of smallest detectable lesion was *** was found that small threshold values gave better canker classification accuracies,while exhibiting a lower overall classification ***,higher threshold values portrayed the opposite *** threshold value of 1.275 gave the optimum tradeoff between canker classification accuracy,overall classification accuracy and minimal lesion size *** the number of erosion cycles reduced detection rates of smaller canker lesions,leading to the conclusion that a single erosion cycle gave the best size estimation *** erosion kernel of the size 3 mm×3 mm was used during the exploration.

A review on the best practices in concrete pavement design and materials in wet-freeze climates similar to Michigan

The research presented in this paper aims to identify best practices of design and materials for concrete pavements in wet-freeze climates similar to the Michigan State. For the purposes of this paper, a best practice is a procedure that has been shown by field-validated research or experience to produce improved results and that is established or proposed as a standard suitable for widespread implementation. The local wet-freeze climate makes the requirements for Michigan's pavement system different from many other regions. Wetfreeze climates can result in various concrete pavement distress mechanisms such as thermally-induced cracking, freeze-thaw deterioration, accelerated cracking due to loss of support, frost heave, and material degradation. Therefore, appropriate procedures for design and material selection need to be selected to withstand high precipitation and freezing winter temperatures. Failure to take into account the climatic conditions may lead to inadequate or reduced pavement performance. However, utilizing appropriate techniques and materials could potentially improve the quality and increase the service life of the concrete pavement. Three design methods and five materials have been identified, and examples of their successful performance in wet-freeze climates are provided. In addition, the reasons that give them the superior performance in wet-freeze climates are discussed in detail.

Combined influence of Ce(Ⅲ)and iodide ions for corrosion protection of AA 2024-T3 in acidic to neutral chloride-rich environments:Electrochemical and surface characterization studies

It has been reported that trivalent cerium salts are effective inhibitors for corrosion of AA2024-T3 in neutral to alkaline co rrosive enviro nments,but poor in acidic *** this study,work was done for extending corrosion resistance provided by Ce(NO_(3))_(3)to acidic pHs as low as 2.5 through the addition of iodide *** this end,potentiodynamic polarization was used to ascertain the optimum Ce(Ⅲ)concentration for the inhibition of AA2024-T3 corrosion in 3.5%NaCl *** optimum concentration is found to be in a range between 0.1 and 0.3 mmol/L Ce(Ⅲ).This optimum concentration also gives a maximum width of the passive region under the pitting potential(Epit).Based on this optimization,further work was performed as a function of pH without and in the presence of 0.01 mol/L KI at five pH values(2.5,4,5,7,and 8).Without iodide the best inhibition provided by the Ce(Ⅲ)cation is at pH=7 but active corrosion is observed at pH=2.5 with an estimated inhibitor efficiency(-37.6%).The addition of iodide ions(I^(-))reverses the poor corrosion resistance whereby the inhibitor efficiency becomes 47.7%.Moreover,at pH=4 the efficiency is also increased from 54.0%to 81.0%with iodide addition providing a significant improvement over Ce(Ⅲ)cations alone under acidic *** is a synergistic effect between I-anion and Ce(Ⅲ)cation,which is determined to be 2.4 and 2.1 at pH=2.5and 4.0,*** pH=5 and 7 there is virtually no change in inhibition but at pH=8 the inhibition falls away due to a considerable amount of cerium precipitating out of solution as cerium *** protective film formed on sites in the aluminium alloy surface at different pH values was examined by both scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive X-ray analysis and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy to determine the role of these ions as a function of pH in surface *** is proposed that at pH=2.5 protection is provided by a bilayer adsorption of iodide with"cap

Background: Cervical cancer (CC) is one of the most frequent cancers and the leading cause of death from gynecological cancer in Low and middle income countries, Cameroon inclusive. Surgery is the primary treatment modality when the disease is diagnosed at early stage. Radical hysterectomy in cervical cancer has not been evaluated in recent years in Cameroon. The purpose of this study is thus to evaluate the epidemiological and clinical features and short term outcomes of patients who underwent surgery. patients and methods: This retrospective study was conducted at the Douala Gynaeco-obstetric and pediatric Hospital and the Douala General Hospital. Cervical cancer patients who underwent Radical hysterectomy between January 2015 and December 2020 were included. A pre-established data collection tool was used to record socio-demographic, clinical and outcomes information from patients’ files;additional outcome information was obtained from phone calls. Descriptive analysis was done using the SpSS version 26. Bivariate analysis was used to determine associations between disease and patients characteristics and occurrence of adverse postoperative outcome. p value of 0.05 was considered. Results: Sixty one patients were enrolled. Their ages ranged from 33 to 74 years with a mean age of 51.95 ± 10.29 years. Over 85% of women were married, 65.57% were unemployed and 86.88% were multiparous. Only 28% had never done cervical cancer screening. Most patients had stage IB1 to IB2 stage disease (57.1%). Less than 9% underwent radical hysterectomy and 8 of those (13.11%) suffered intraoperative complications. Twenty-five patients (40.98%) presented immediate and short term complications. There was no significant association between the disease or patients’ characteristics and adverse outcomes.
