Plyometric exercise and bone health in children and adolescents: a systematic review

Background:Many jumping interventions have been performed in children and adolescents in order to improve bone-related variables and thus,ensure a healthy bone development during these periods and later in *** systematic review aims to summarize and update present knowledge regarding the effects that jumping interventions may have on bone mass,structure and metabolism in order to ascertain the efficacy and durability (duration of the effects caused by the intervention) of the *** sources:Identification of studies was performed by searching in the database MEDLInE/PubMed and *** studies were identified by contacting clinical experts and searching bibliographies and *** terms included 'bone and bones','jump*','weight-bearing','resistance training' and 'school intervention'.The search was conducted up to October *** studies that had performed a specific jumping intervention in under 18-year olds and had measured bone mass were *** extraction of articles was done by 2 authors using predefined data ***:A total of 26 studies were included in this ***-four studies found positive results as subjects included in the intervention groups showed higher bone mineral density,bone mineral content and bone structure improvements than *** two studies found no effects on bone mass after a 10-week and 9-month ***,those studies that evaluated the durability of the effects found that some of the increases in the intervention groups were maintained after several ***:Jumping interventions during childhood and adolescence improve bone mineral content,density and structural properties without side *** type of interventions should be therefore implemented when possible in order to increase bone mass in early stages of life,which may have a direct preventive effect on bone diseases like osteoporosis later in fife.

Automated Synthesis of Wideband Bandpass Filters Based on Slow-Wave EBG Structures

This paper is focused on the automated synthesis of wideband bandpass filters operating at microwave frequencies and based on electromagnetic bandgap(EBG)*** classical counterpart of such filter consists of a combination of transmission line sections and shunt-connected grounded stubs placed at equidistant *** replacing the transmission line sections with capacitively-loaded lines(a kind of EBG-based lines)exhibiting the same phase shift at the lower cutoff frequency and the same characteristic(actually Bloch)impedance,filter size is reduced and the spurious pass bands can be efficiently *** practice,the loading capacitances are implemented by means of patches,in order to achieve a fully planar filter *** presence of the patches reduces the effective phase velocity of the capacitively-loaded lines,thus providing a slow-wave effect useful for filter ***,due to periodicity,such EBG-based lines exhibit wide stop bands,which are used for spurious *** though such EBGbased filters were previously reported by some of the authors,a systematic synthesis method was not applied for filter *** this paper,the main aim is to demonstrate the potential of aggressive space mapping(ASM)for that purpose,and it will be shown that such filters can be automatically synthesized.

Fungal contamination of stored automobile-fuels in a tropical environment

Because of the lack of reports, the base levels of microbial contamination on stored fuels are unknown in tropical regions and it is unclear whether these levels have some influence on fuel quality parameters. Therefore, fungal quality in automobile fuels stored across Costa Rican territory was evaluated during two years according to the standard ASTM D6974-04. For a total of 96 samples, counts and identification of molds and yeasts were performed on regular gas, premium gas and diesel taken from the bottom and superior part of the container tanks. The highest contamination was found on the bottom of the tanks, where an aqueous phase was usually identified, showing populations over the ones present in the hydrocarbon itself （up to 108 CFU/L）. Diesel was the most contaminated fuel （up to 107 CFO/L）; however, an alteration on the physicochemical parameters was not observed in any kind of fuel. Seventy-five mold strains were isolated, Penicillium sp. being the most common genus （45.8% of the samples）, and ten yeast strains, from the genera Candida sp. and Rhodotorula sp. Four of the yeasts were able to grow on diesel as the sole carbon source, at concentrations ranging from 0.5% to 25%. Increasing the frequency of tank cleaning, adding antimicrobial agents and monitoring microbial populations are recommended strategies to improve microbial quality of stored fuels.

This study quantifies seismic amplifications in near-shore arising from seaquakes. Within the Boundary Element Method, boundary elements are used to irradiate waves and force densities obtained for each element. Huygens′ Principle is implemented since the diffracted waves are constructed at the boundary from which they are radiated, which is equivalent to Somigliana′s theorem. Application of boundary conditions leads to a system of integral equations of the Fredholm type of second kind and zero order. Several numerical configurations are analyzed： The first is used to verify the present formulation with ideal sea floor configurations to estimate seismic amplifications. With the formulation verified, simple slope configurations are studied to estimate spectra of seismic motions. It is found that P-waves can produce seismic amplifications from 1.2 to 3.9 times the amplitude of the incident wave. SV-waves can generate seismic amplifications up to 4.5 times the incident wave. Another relevant finding is that the highest amplifications are at the shore compared to the ones at the sea floor.

The visual system is affected by neurodegenerative diseases caused by the degeneration of specific retinal neurons,the leading cause of irreversible blindness in *** vertebrate phylogeny,the retina has two kinds of specialized niches of constitutive neurogenesis:the retinal progenitors located in the circumferential marginal zone and Müller *** proliferative activity in the retinal progenitors located in the circumferential marginal zone in precocial birds such as the chicken,the commonest bird model used in developmental and regenerative studies,is very *** region adds only a few retinal cells to the peripheral edge of the retina during several months after hatching,but does not seem to be involved in retinal regeneration.Müller cells in the chicken retina are not proliferative under physiological conditions,but after acute damage some of them undergo a reprogramming event,dedifferentiating into retinal stem cells and generating new retinal ***,regenerative response after injury occurs with low efficiency in the precocial avian *** contrast,it has recently been shown that neurogenesis is intense in the retina of altricial birds at *** particular,abundant proliferative activity is detected both in the circumferential marginal zone and in the outer half of the inner nuclear ***,stem cell niches are very active in the retina of altricial *** more extensive research is needed to assess the potential of proliferating cells in the adult retina of altricial birds,it emerges as an attractive model for studying different aspects of neurogenesis and neural regeneration in vertebrates.

Complexity of adaptive testing in scenarios defined extensionally

In this paper,we consider a testing setting where the set of possible definitions of the Implementation Under Test(IUT),as well as the behavior of each of these definitions in all possible interactions,are extensionally defined,i.e.,on an element-by-element and case-by-case *** this setting,the problem of finding the minimum testing strategy such that collected observations will necessarily let us decide whether the IUT is correct or not(i.e.,whether it necessarily belongs to the set of possible correct definitions or not)is studied in four possible problem variants:with or without non-determinism;and with or without more than one possible definition in the sets of possible correct and incorrect *** computational complexity of these variants is studied,and properties such as PSPACE-completeness and Log-APX-hardness are identified.
