The funga. pa.hogen Sclerotinia.sclerotiorum Libert ca.ses rot disea.es on ma.y crops worldwide a.d la.ge economic losses occur frequently beca.se of a.la.k of resista.t va.ieties. The pa.hogenesis of S. sclerotiorum a.d the molecula. ba.is of pla.t responses to the pa.hogen a.e poorly understood. In the present investiga.ion, the process of S. sclerotiorum infection in a.a.idopsis tha.ia.a.L., a.pla.t tha. is highly susceptible to this fungus, wa. a.a.ysed. In a.dition, the defense a.tiva.ion in the host wa. investiga.ed. a.convenient inocula.ion method using millet gra.n wa. developed for S. sclerotiorum in a.a.idopsis. The fungus ra.idly infected the pla.ts, proba.ly through ba.l- or cushion-like infection structures. Visible symptoms developed within 24 h a.d pla.ts were killed 72 h a.ter inocula.ion. Cellula.e, the ma.n enzyme tha. ca.sed host tissues to rot, wa. secreted by S. sclerotiorum in a.pH-dependent ma.ner. Oxa.ic a.id, a.other pa.hogenic fa.tor secreted by the fungus, induced necrotic lesions on the lea.es, infection with S. sclerotiorum strongly induced the production of the pa.hogenesis-rela.ed （PR） proteins β-1,3-gluca.a.e a.d chitina.e in a.a.idopsis. Furthermore, the PR gene PDF. 1 wa. induced, but not PR1, indica.ing tha. the pa.hogen a.tiva.ed ba.a. defense of ja.monic a.id/ethylene dependence, which is consistent with its necrotrophic cha.a.teristics. This pa.hosystem for a.a.idopsis-S. sclerotiorum could provide a. a.proa.h for the a.a.ysis of the intera.tions between S. sclerotiorum a.d other crops, thereby fa.ilita.ing genetic ma.ipula.ion techniques for controlling this pa.hogen.

Methods： In a.tota. of 4 265 ra.domly collected pa.ients a.tending the a.drologica. outpa.ient clinic of the Center for Derma.ology a.d a.drology, University of Giessen, Germa.y, eja.ula.e volume, pH-va.ue, sperm concentra.ion, tota. a.d progressive sperm motility, concentra.ion of polymorphonuclea. （PMN） ela.ta.e, number of peroxida.e-positive cells a.d fructose were mea.ured a.d correla.ed with pa.ient＇s a.e. Results： While eja.ula.e volume, motility a.d fructose a.l correla.ed nega.ively with a.e, sperm concentra.ion, PMN ela.ta.e a.d the pH-va.ue showed a.positive correla.ion. The preva.ence of ma.e genita. tra.t infla.ma.ion （a. defined by PMN ela.ta.e 〉 250 ng/mL） a.d its severity increa.ed significa.tly. PMN ela.ta.e did not correla.e with sperm motility. Fructose a. a.ma.ker of semina. vesicle function showed a.significa.t nega.ive rela.ionship with the PMN ela.ta.e levels, the number of peroxida.e-positive cells a.d sperm motility. Conclusion： The significa.t increa.es of PMN ela.ta.e levels a. ma.ker of ma.e genita. tra.t infla.ma.ion in older men a.pea. to be indica.ive of a.e-rela.ed cha.ges in loca. immunoregula.ory mecha.isms. Beca.se there is no a.socia.ion of PMN ela.ta.e with sperm motility, a.direct inhibitory effect of this enzyme ca. be excluded.

The a.m of this study wa. to investiga.e the root ca.a. configura.ion, a.cessory ca.a.s a.d number of ma.n fora.ina.of 123 ma.illa.y second mola.s by mea.s of micro-computed tomogra.hy. The teeth were sca.ned a.d reproduced with 3D softwa.e ima.ing. The root ca.a. configura.ion a.d number of ma.n fora.ina.were eva.ua.ed by mea.s of a.four-digit system. The morphologica. complexity of huma. ma.illa.y second mola.s is depicted by the number of a.cessory a.d connecting ca.a.s. The most frequently observed root ca.a. configura.ions in the mesiobucca. root were 2-2-2/2 （19.5%）, 2-2-1/1 （14.6%） a.d 2-1-1/1 （13.0%）. a.1-1-1/1 configura.ion wa. observed in 93.5% a.d in 96.7% in the distobucca. a.d pa.a.a. roots, respectively. The MB1 mot ca.a. ha. one a.cessory ca.a. （18.7%）, a.d 8.9% of the MB2 root ca.a. ha. one or two a.cessory ca.a.s. The distobucca. （11.3%） a.d pa.a.a. （14.6%） root ca.a.s ha. a. lea.t one a.cessory ca.a., a.d connecting ca.a.s were observed in 16.3% of mesiobucca. roots. The MB1, MB2, distobucca. a.d pa.a.a. root ca.a.s ha. one ma.n fora.en in 99.2%, 43.1%, 98.4% a.d 99.2% of sa.ples, respectively. In the mesiobucca. root, one a.cessory fora.en wa. detected in 14.6%, two were detected in 7.3%, a.d three were detected in 5.7%. The distobucca. root showed one or two a.cessory fora.ina.in 9.1% of sa.ples. The root ca.a. configura.ion of ma.illa.y second mola.s is quite heterogeneous; the mesiobucca. root ha. predomina.tly two root ca.a. entra.ces （58.4%, 1 in 41.1%） with one ma.n fora.en （54.4%）. Two ma.n fora.ina.were observed in 43.0%. Morphologica. va.ia.ions, connecting a.d a.cessory ca.a.s were observed in a.l a.ica. thirds.
