This work focuses on examining the possible advantages for the urban sustainability,derived from the integration of transport,land use and energy *** main aim is to develop a GIS-based method that can help decision makers,either public or private,improve the economic,social and environmental sustainability of urban areas through an integrated transformation *** a result,it was possible to provide a spatial analysis technique based on seven synthetic variables and on the application of a cluster method able to identify the portions of urban areas where investments and urban integrated transformation processes can be more suitable,according to the dynamic relationships among transport,land use and energy *** methodology was applied to the Greater London area and led to significant results:the cluster classes follow the transport railway network evolution within the study area *** paper is organized as follows:in Section 1 the integration of transport,land use and energy planning is investigated;following the introduction,in Section 2,the GIS-based method is presented,followed by a description of the application to the Greater London area;in Section 4,findings of the methodology are *** the last section,results and future developments are discussed.

Background:Early severity estimates of coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)are critically needed to assess the potential impact of the on going pandemic in differe nt demographic *** we estimate the real-time delayadjusted case fatality rate across nine age groups by gender in Chile,the country with the highest testing rate for COVID-19 in Latin ***:We used a publicly available real-time daily series of age-stratified COVID-19 cases and deaths reported by the Ministry of Health in Chile from the beginning of the epidemic in March through August 31,*** used a robust likelihood function and a delay distribution to estimate real-time delay-adjusted case-fatality risk and estimate model parameters using a Monte Carlo Markov Chain in a Bayesian framework.

Aerobic catabolism of S. cerevisiae (cell respiration) is a rapid, cost-effective, and reproducible toxicological endpoint of the whole cells biosensor. To increase the signal intensity, a protocol for the immobilization and modification of the yeast cells is described. In particular, the enzymatic treatment of the immobilized yeast cells allows removing the cell wall and obtaining structurally modified cells namely spheroplasts. Both immobilization and exposure of sensitive cells like spheroplasts confirmed to improve the method’s sensitivity vs. the chemicals. The present paper reports the test of different chemicals (including Mercury and wood preservative like Tanalith) present in consumer products, performed both by sensor with intact and modified whole cells.

Changsha was one of the most affected areas during the 2009 A(H1N1)influenza pandemic in ***,we analyze the spatial–temporal dynamics of the 2009 pandemic across Changsha municipal districts,evaluate the relationship between case incidence and the local urban spatial structure and predict high-risk areas of influenza A(H1N1).We obtained epidemiological data on all cases of influenza A(H1N1)reported across municipal districts in Changsha during period May 2009–December 2010 and data on population density and basic geographic characteristics for 239 primary schools,97 middle schools,347 universities,96 malls and markets,674 business districts and 121 ***–temporal K functions,proximity models and logistic regression were used to analyze the spatial distribution pattern of influenza A(H1N1)incidence and the association between influenza A(H1N1)cases and spatial risk factors and predict the infection *** found that the 2009 influenza A(H1N1)was driven by a transmission wave from the center of the study area to surrounding areas and reported cases increased significantly after September *** also found that the distribution of influenza A(H1N1)cases was associated with population density and the presence of nearest public places,especially universities(OR=10.166).The final predictive risk map based on the multivariate logistic analysis showed high-risk areas concentrated in the center areas of the study area associated with high population *** findings support the identification of spatial risk factors and highrisk areas to guide the prioritization of preventive and mitigation efforts against future influenza pandemics.

Background: Ischemia-reperfusion injury of organ transplantation activates several mediators which may link the innate to the adaptive immune response. Down the cascade of TLRs, we selected to study the expression of Interferon Regulatory Factors (IRF)-3 and -7 inside human Kidney Transplanted (KTx) organs and the synthesis of IFNα, the main growth factor induced by them, in KTx aspiration biopsy cultures. Simultaneously, we tested their robustness in diagnosing Acute Rejection (AR). Methods: Fine-needle aspiration biopsies (F-nab) were performed either on day 7 or 14 post-KTx among stable patients or on the day of AR diagnosis. On Fnab cytopreparations, we studied IRF3 and IRF7 by the enzymatic avidin-biotin complex staining, and in a different group of cases we quantified IFNα by ELISA in 48 hours Fnab culture supernatants. Results: AR group showed a significantly up-regulated expression for IRF3 and IRF7, reaching Positive Predictive Values (PPV) of 0.824 and 0.8, respectively, as well as Negative Predictive Values (NPV) above 0.9 for both;IFNα presented a PPV = 1.0 and a NPV = 0.9. A variation in the results was noticed according to different immunosuppressive therapies. Conclusions: Our findings suggest that IRF3 and IRF7, and IFNα which they promote, may be very important players in the early days post-KTx, linking the innate with an adaptive response and triggering acute rejection. These differences were very clear-cut, lending consistency to our speculation. It would be important to scrutinize for other potential effects derived from these IRFs up-regulation which could be of clinical relevance.

Background: The allo-immune response following organ transplantation constitutes one of the main determinants concerning both short- and long- term outcomes in renal graft recipients. Chemokines and their receptors play a diversified and important role, either homeostatic or inflammatory and direct different immune-competent cell types to the allograft. While deeply studied in the last two decades, controversy persists as a result of chemokines’ pleiotropic actions. We report our analysis of CCR1, CCR3, CCR7, CCL5 and CX3CL1 expression or synthesis by graft-infiltrating cells in human kidney transplants (KTx). At the same time, we tested their robustness in diagnosing acute rejection. Methods: Fine-needle aspiration biopsies (Fnab) were performed either on days 7 or 14 post-transplantation among stable KTx and on the day of acute rejection (AR) diagnosis. Fnab cytopreparations were studied by the enzymatic avidin-biotin complex staining for CCR1, CCR3, CCR7 and CX3CL1. From another subgroup of cases, Fnab samples were cultured for 48 hours and the supernatants were analysed for CCL5 by ELISA. Results: The group of AR cases showed a significantly up-regulated expression of CCR1, CCR3, CCR7 and CX3CL1 and a significantly higher synthesis of CCL5. The positive predictive values were respectively 92%, 97%, 85%, 76% and 78% and negative predictive values were by the same order, 100%, 73%, 100%, 98% and 83%. Conclusions: Our study permits us to advance that CCR1 and CCR3 play a significant and non-redundant role in acute rejection, and it is the first report of CCR3 association with rejection, probably related to CCL5. The presence inside the graft of significant up-regulation for CCR7 surmises that part of antigen presentation may be performed there without being restricted to secondary lymphoid sites. Our results with CX3CL1 confirm other reports.
