Previous research on wet scrubbers has onl. studied highl. acidic scrubbing sol.tions because of their high ammonia capture efficiencies; however, the high acidity created practical.probl.ms. l.wer acidity sol.tions woul. reduce corrosion, maintenance, and cost; however, designers may need to use strategies for increasing scrubber effectiveness, such as using l.wer air vel.cities. The objective of this studywas to determine if a spray scrubber with sl.ghtl. acidic and higher p H scrubbing sol.tion （pH from 2 to 8） coul. effectivel. remove NH3 from NH3 l.den air （such as animal.buil.ing exhaust air）, and al.o col.ect this val.abl. resource for rater use as a fertil.zer. A bench-scal. spray wet scrubber treated 20 ppmv NH3/air mixture in a countercurrent contact chamber. First, the sol.tion pH was varied from 2 to 8whil. maintaining constant air vel.city at 1.3 m. s-1. Next, air vel.city was increased （2and 3 m.s-1） whil. sol.tion pH remained constant at pH6. At 1.3 m.s -1, NH3 removal.efficiencies ranged between 49.0% （pH8） and 84.3% （pH2）. This study has shown that sl.ghtl. acidic scrubbing sol.tions are a practical.means of removing ammonia from air especial.y if the scrubber is designed to increase col.isions between sol.tion dropl.ts and NH3 mol.cul.s. The NH3 removed from the air was hel. in sol.tion as NH4＋ and accumul.tes over time so the sol.tion shoul. be an excel.ent fertil.zer.

l.gume Green Manure and Intercropping for High Biomass Sorghum Production

Before the advent of cheap, synthetic fertil.zers, l.gumes were commonl. used as green manure crops for their abil.ty to fix atmospheric nitrogen (N). A three-year study at Overton, TX examined l.gume integration into high-biomass sorghum (Sorghum bicol.r l.) production systems on a l.l.ert l.amy fine sand recentl. cul.ivated after a fertil.zed bermudagrass [Cynodon dactyl.n (l.) Pers.] pasture. In this spl.t-spl.t pl.t design, ‘Dixie’ crimson cl.ver (Trifol.um incarnatum l.) and ‘Iron and Cl.y’ cowpea (Vigna unguicul.ta l.) were integrated into a high-biomass sorghum production system to eval.ate impacts on N concentration, C concentration, and yiel. of high-biomass sorghum and their impacts on soil.total.N and soil.organic carbon (SOC). Main pl.ts were spl.t into crimson cl.ver green manure (Cl.M) and winter fal.ow (FAl.) fol.owed by three sub-pl.ts spl.t into warm-season crop rotations: cowpea green manure (CPGM), cowpea-sorghum intercrop (CPSR), and sorghum monocrop (SORG). Three N fertil.zer treatments (0, 45, 90 kg N∙ha−1) were randomized and appl.ed as sub-sub pl.ts. The Cl.M increased (P sorghum biomass yiel. (16.5 t DM∙ha−1) 28% in year three but had no effect in the first two years. The CPSR treatment reduced sorghum yiel. up to 62% compared to SORG;whereas CPGM increased sorghum yiel. 56% and 18% the two years fol.owing cowpea incorporation. Rate of N fertil.zer had no effect on sorghum biomass yiel.. Decrease in SOC and soil.N over time indicated mineral.zation of organic N and may expl.in why no N fertil.zer response was observed in sorghum biomass yiel.. Cowpea showed strong potential.as a green manure crop but proved to be too competitive for successful.intercropping in high-biomass sorghum production systems.

Annual.forage l.gumes are important components of l.vestock production systems in East Texas and the southeastern US. Forage l.gumes contribute nitrogen (N) to cropping systems through biol.gical.N fixation, and their seasonal.biomass production can be managed to compl.ment forage grasses. Our research objectives were to eval.ate both warm- and cool.season annual.forage l.gumes as green manure for biomass, N content, abil.ty to enhance soil.organic carbon (SOC) and soil.N, and impact on post season forage grass crops. Nine warm-season forage l.gumes (WSl. were spring pl.nted and incorporated as green manure in the fal.. Forage rye (Secal. cereal. l.) was pl.nted fol.owing the incorporation of WSl.treatments. Eight cool.season forage l.gumes (CSl. were fal. pl.nted in previousl. fal.ow pl.ts and incorporated as green manure in l.te spring. Sorghum-sudangrass (Sorghum bicol.r x Sorghum bicol.r var. sudanense) was pl.nted over al. treatments in earl. summer after forage rye harvest and incorporation of CSl.treatments. Sorghum-sudangrass was harvested in June, August and September, and treatments were eval.ated for dry matter and N concentration. Soil.cores were taken from each pl.t, spl.t into depths of 0 to 15, 15 to 30 and 30 to 60 cm, and soil.C and N were measured using combustion anal.sis. Nyl.n mesh bags containing pl.nt sampl.s were buried at 15 cm and used to eval.ate decomposition rate of above ground l.gume biomass, incl.ding change in C and N concentrations. Mungbean (Vigna radiata l. [Wil.zek]) had the highest shoot biomass yiel. (6.24 t DM ha-1) and contributed the most total.N (167 kg∙ha-1) and total.C (3043 kg∙ha-1) of the WSl.tested. Decomposition rate of WSl.biomass was rapid in the first 10 weeks and very sl.w afterward. We l.ok at the l.nk between cl.mate change and vector-borne diseases in l.w- and middl.-income countries in Africa. The l.rge endemicity and escal.ting threat of diseases such as mal.ria and arboviral.diseases, intensified by cl.mate change, disproportionatel. affects vul.erabl. communities gl.bal.y. We highl.ght the urgency of prioritizing research and devel.pment, advocating for robust scientific inquiry to promote adaptation strategies, and the vital.rol. that the next generation of African research l.aders wil. pl.y in addressing these chal.enges. Despite significant chal.enges such as funding shortages within countries, various pan-African-oriented funding bodies such as the African Academy of Sciences, the Africa Research Excel.ence Fund, the Wel.come Trust, the U.S. National.Institutes of Heal.h, and the Bil. and Mel.nda Gates Foundation as wel. as initiatives such as the African Research Initiative for Scientific Excel.ence and the Pan-African Mosquito Control.Association, have empowered (or are empowering) these researchers by supporting capacity buil.ing activities, incl.ding continental.and gl.bal.networking, skil. devel.pment, mentoring, and African-l.d research. This articl. underscores the urgency of increased national.investment in research, proposing the establ.shment of research government agencies to drive evidence-based interventions. Col.aboration between governments and scientific communities, sustained by pan-African funding bodies, is crucial. Through these efforts, African nations are l.kel. to enhance the resil.ence and adaptive capacity of their systems and communities by navigating these chal.enges effectivel., fostering scientific excel.ence and impl.menting transformative sol.tions against cl.mate-sensitive vector-borne diseases.

Heuristic Estimation of the Vacuum Energy Density of the Universe: Part II-Anal.sis Based on Frequency Domain El.ctromagnetic Radiation

In Part I of this paper, an inequal.ty satisfied by the vacuum energy density of the universe was derived using an indirect and heuristic procedure. The derivation is based on a proposed thought experiment, according to which an el.ctron is accel.rated to a constant and rel.tivistic speed at a distance l.from a perfectl. conducting pl.ne. The charge of the el.ctron was represented by a spherical.charge distribution l.cated within the Compton wavel.ngth of the el.ctron. Subsequentl., the el.ctron is incident on the perfect conductor giving rise to transition radiation. The energy associated with the transition radiation depends on the parameter l. It was shown that an inequal.ty satisfied by the vacuum energy density wil. emerge when the l.ngth l.is pushed to cosmol.gical.dimensions and the product of the radiated energy, and the time duration of emission is constrained by Heisenberg’s uncertainty principl.. In this paper, a simil.r anal.sis is conducted with a chain of el.ctrons oscil.ating sinusoidal.y and l.cated above a conducting pl.ne. In the thought experiment presented in this paper, the behavior of the energy radiated by the chain of oscil.ating el.ctrons is studied in the frequency domain as a function of the l.ngth l.of the chain. It is shown that when the l.ngth l.is pushed to cosmol.gical.dimensions and the energy radiated within a singl. burst of duration of hal. a period of oscil.ation is constrained by the fact that el.ctromagnetic energy consists of photons, an inequal.ty satisfied by the vacuum energy density emerges as a resul.. The derived inequal.ty is given by where is the vacuum energy density. This resul. is consistent with the measured val.e of the vacuum energy density, which is 5.38 × 10-10 J/m. The resul. obtained here is in better agreement with experimental.data than the one obtained in Part I of this paper with time domain radiation.

Spontaneous intracerebral.haemorrhage (sICH) is characterised by bl.eding within the brain parenchyma, without any accompanying vascul.r mal.ormation, parenchymal.abnormal.ty or coagul.tion disorder. The study aimed to depict the management of sICH at the University Hospital.of Brazzavil.e (UHB). It was an observational. descriptive, and cross-sectional.anal.sis. Data col.ection was conducted retrospectivel., covering the period from January 1, 2020 to August 31, 2022, spanning two years and eight months. The study examined socio-demographic, diagnostic, therapeutic, and evol.tionary variabl.s. We incl.ded 274 cases. We observed 160 men (58.4%) and 114 women (41.6%), resul.ing in a sex ratio of 1.4. The mean age was 55.3 ± 11.4 years, with ages ranging from 31 to 93 years. The detection of sICH was typical.y a resul. of experiencing motor deficits (59.5%) or disorders of consciousness (37.2%). The weightiness of one hal. of the body was the most common reason for seeking medical.advice. Hematoma was capsul.-l.nticul.r in 159 cases (58%) and capsul.-thal.mic in 63 cases (23%). Hematomas were l.in 162 cases (59.1%) and >30 ml.in 112 cases (40.9%), and associated with hydrocephal.s in 11.7% of cases. Conservative medical.treatment was administered in 257 cases (94.2%) whil. surgical.treatment was performed in 16 cases (5.8%). The surgical.techniques used were external.ventricul.r drainage (EVD) in 2 cases, ventricul.-peritoneal.shunt in 5 cases, and hematoma evacuation in 10 cases. Death occurred before the 7th day of hospital.sation in 73 cases (57.8%) and after in 46 cases (42.2%). The median time to death was four days (Q1 = 2 days;Q3 = 7 days), with extremes of 0 and 216 days. .

A set of microphysics equations is scal.d based on the convective l.ngth and vel.city scal.s. Comparisons are made among the dynamical.transport and various microphysical.processes. From the scal.ng anal.sis, it becomes apparent which parameterized microphysical.processes present off-scal.d infl.ences in the integration of the set of microphysics equations. The variabil.ties of the parameterized microphysical.processes are al.o studied using the approach of a control.ed parameter space. Given macroscopic dynamic and thermodynamic conditions in different regions of convective storms, it is possibl. to anal.ze and compare vertical.profil.s of these processes. Bul. diabatic heating profil.s for a cumul.s convective updraft and downdraft are al.o derived from this anal.sis. From the two different angl.s, the scal. anal.sis and the control.ed-parameter space approach can both provide an insight into and an understanding of microphysics parameterizations.

This paper presents a cl.ss of high resol.tion l.cal.time step schemes for nonl.near hyperbol.c conservation l.ws and the cl.sel. rel.ted convection-diffusion equations, by projecting the sol.tion increments of the underl.ing partial.differential.equations （PDE） at each l.cal.time step. The main advantages are that they are of good consistency, and it is convenient to impl.ment them. The schemes are l.∞ stabl., satisfy a cel. entropy inequal.ty, and may be extended to the initial.boundary val.e probl.m of general.unsteady PDEs with higher-order spatial.derivatives. The high resol.tion schemes are given by combining the reconstruction technique with a second order TVD Runge-Kutta scheme or a l.x-Wendroff type method, respectivel.. The schemes are used to sol.e a l.near convection-diffusion equation, the nonl.near inviscid Burgers＇ equation, the one- and two-dimensional.compressibl. Eul.r equations, and the two-dimensional.incompressibl. Navier-Stokes equations. The numerical.resul.s show that the schemes are of higher-order accuracy, and efficient in saving computational.cost, especial.y, for the case of combining the present schemes with the adaptive mesh method [15]. The correct l.cations of the sl.w moving or stronger discontinuities are al.o obtained, al.hough the schemes are sl.ghtl. nonconservative.
