This study discusses the development of a mathematical model that is capable ofpredicting the drop size mean diameter of the spray generated by a pressure swirl atomizer,considering the effects of the liquid’s viscosity and the geometrical parameters of this typeof injector, as well as the angle of incidence of the inlet channels (j and b) and atomizationparameters (k, 8), obtained from hyperbolic relations. Additionally, this model investigatesthe phenomena of rupture and stability that are observed in the conical liquid film, in whichthe importance of a new geometrical parameter of atomization, “8”, which immediately influences the drop size diameter of the spray, should be highlighted. The results that are obtainedusing this model are compared with analytical results of Couto, Wang and Lefebvre, Jasuja,radcliffe and Lefebvre, experimental results and numerics (Hollow cone atomization model),using the Ansys Fluent software for the validation and consistency of the model proposed in rivas (2015). This model yields good approximations as compared to that yielded using otheralternative mathematical models, demonstrating that the new atomization geometric parameter“8” is an “adjustment” factor that exhibits considerable significance while designing pressureswirl atomizers according to the required SMD. Furthermore, this model is easy to use, withreliable results, and has the advantage of saving computational time.

BACKGrOUND Hepatitis C virus(HCV)infection is responsible for a chronic liver inflammation,which may cause end-stage liver disease and hepatocellular *** E(protein:ApoE,gene:APOE),a key player in cholesterol metabolism,is mainly synthesized in the liver and APOE polymorphisms may influence HCV-induced liver *** To determine whether APOE alleles affect outcomes in HCV-infected patients with liver cirrhosis following orthotopic liver transplantation(OLT).METHODS This was a cohort study in which 179 patients,both genders and aged 34-70 years,were included before or after(up to 10 years follow-up)*** injury severity was assessed using different criteria,including METAVIr and models for endstage liver *** polymorphisms were analyzed by quantitative real-time polymerase chain *** The APOE3 allele was the most common(67.3%).In inflammation severity of biopsies from 89 OLT explants and 2 patients in pre-transplant,the degree of severe inflammation(A3F4,0.0%)was significantly less frequent than in patients with minimal and moderate degree of inflammation(≤A2F4,16.2%)P=0.048,in patients carrying the APOE4 allele when compared to *** addition,a significant difference was also found(≤A2F4,64.4%vs A3F4,0.0%;P=0.043)and(A1F4,57.4%vs A3F4,0.0%;P=0.024)in APOE4 patients when compared to APOE3 *** fibrosis degree of the liver graft in 8 of 91 patients and the lack of the E4 allele was associated with more moderate fibrosis(F2)(P=0.006).CONCLUSION Our results suggest that the E4 allele protects against progression of liver fibrosis and degree of inflammation in HCV-infected patients.

Background:In Cerrado humid areas,veredas are considered as hygrophilous communities,marked by the presence of the Mauritia flexuosa palm tree emerging in the wetter *** in veredas ecosystems due to drought and changes in the water table,which represent important areas for biodiversity maintenance in the Brazilian cerrado,can lead to the emergence of new landscapes and *** that the veredas are changed in species composition due to anthropogenic factors,in this study,we evaluated the flora composition and described the current vegetation profile of two veredas under different disturbances levels that are located in the north of Minas Gerais State,***:Altogether,2,268 individuals of 91 species belonging to 36 families were *** results demonstrated that the studied veredas were floristically different in terms of the arboreous-shrubby species composition,richness,and *** the hygrophilous forest formations and open areas in the two veredas present typical species from these environments(same species with high importance values),the drought in the water table caused an expansion of Cerrado species in the open areas and in the hygrophilous ***,in the hygrophilous forest there was an increase in the abundance of species that occur in less saturated ***:Our results demonstrate that the studied veredas are changing in species composition due to anthropogenic factors which leads to the drought of these formations(water balance effect).These anthropogenic effects cause a modification with the expansion and increase in the abundance of typical species of other areas of Cerrado and resistant to less saturated soils,leading to the veredas ***,future studies should investigate other veredas on a broader scale to detect changes in the water table that lead to a consequent change in vegetation *** this way,we will have support for the conscientious management and conservatio

Objective:To investigate the morphological structure of ovarian follicular cells and biochemical parameters of both ovaries and fat bodies(sites of vitellogenesis)from rhodnius(r.)prolixus infected with Trypanosoma(T.)***:Adult virgin females of *** were fed upon a membrane apparatus containing heat-inactivated citrated rabbit blood and a suspension of *** epimastigotes(Macias strain).Females from the control group and all the males received parasite-free *** electron microscopy was used to reveal the morphological aspects of ovarian follicle cells in both control and parasite-infected *** profile,proteolytic activities and Western blotting analyses were performed in either ovary or fat body samples of control and parasite-infected ***:According to the ultrastructural data,*** infection elicited a degeneration process in the ovarian follicular cells of *** assays indicated a reduction in the activity of aspartic peptidases in the ovary and fat body from parasite-infected group,while a significant increase in the cysteine peptidase activity was measured in both insect ***,immunoblotting revealed that vitellogenin was overexpressed in the ovary of parasite-infected ***:*** infection seems to elicit an early programmed cell death in the ovarian follicle cells as well as induces the modulation on the activities of different peptidase classes in either ovaries or fat bodies and the overexpression of the vitellogenin in the ovary of ***.

Vertebral hemangiomas are common benign lesions of the spine, characterized by abnormal vascular proliferation, being commonly asymptomatic incidental findings, presenting symptoms in only a small portion of affected individuals. In a smaller number of cases, however, hemangiomas can present an expansive effect and extra-osseous extension, determining a mass effect and neurological symptoms, being therefore called aggressive hemangiomas. On MrI, aggressive hemangiomas are characterized by having a larger vascular component and a smaller fat component, thus producing a low signal on T1-weighted images. We illustrate the case of a young male patient who presented with pain in the upper thoracic spine, who developed paraparesis and ascending sensory deficit and progressive lower limbs, progressing to paraplegia and loss of sphincter control.

The use of natural enemies represents an important strategy in programs of Integrated Pest Management (IPM). Asopinae predators are reared with alternative prey, but supplementary plant may enhance the fecundity and longevity of their females. The objective of this research was to evaluate the development and reproduction of the predator Brontocoris tabidus Signoret, 1852 (Heteroptera: Pentatomidae) fed with Tenebrio molitor L., 1785 (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae) pupae in a Eucalyptus grandis Hill ex Maiden (Myrtaceae) plant in the field. The duration and survival of the nymphal stage of B. tabidus were 32.07 ± 8.95 days and 77.00 ± 0.42%, respectively with 15.55 ± 8.19 egg masses, 603.00 ± 379.20 eggs and 387.45 ± 291.40 nymphs per female of this predator while longevity of its males and females was 119.80 ± 32.80 and 160.20 ± 42.13 days, respectively. Better results with E. grandis plant in the field and the fact that B. tabidus will be adapted at release time show that this predator should be reared in these conditions.

Curimat?-pioa (Prochilodus costatus) and curimat?-pacu (Prochilodus argenteus) are migratory fish species endemic to the S?o Francisco river Basin in Brazil. Both species play important roles in local fisheries and ecology in the Paraopeba river. A dam was recently constructed on this river and to help in the development and conservation programs, we characterized the genetic variation of both species before dam construction. Complex hypervariable repeats micro-satellite was used to asses genetic variation for both species within and between the five collection sites in order to detect population substructuring. Nucleotide substitutions and insertion/deletion polymorphisms (indels) resulted in 35 P. costatus haplotypes (sample size = 89) and 22 P. argenteus haplotypes (sample size = 32). Significant genetic diversity and population differentiation was detected between five sampling sites for both species. Therefore, each of the five sites should be regarded as a group comprising significant genetic differences in species conservation and maintenance plans. Comparing these results to genetic diversity measures after dam construction will be critical for future management in this region.

The Tityus serrulatus scorpion is considered the most dangerous scorpion in Brazil and is responsible for several cases of human envenomation annually. In this study, we performed transcriptome profiling of the T. serrulatus venom gland. In addition to transcripts with housekeeping functions, such as those related to protein synthesis, energy supply and structural processes, transcripts from thirty-five families of venom peptides or proteins were identified. These transcripts included three new complete sequences of toxins and more than a dozen putative venom gland proteins/peptides. The venom gland transcriptome profile was verified by comparison with the previously determined proteomic profile. In conclusion, this transcriptome data provides novel insights into the putative mechanisms underlying the venomous character of T. serrulatus. The collected data of scorpion transcripts and proteins/peptides described herein may be an important resource for identifying candidate targets of molecular therapies and preventative measures.
