Analysis of equilibrium, kinetic, and thermodynamic parameters for biosorption of fluoride from water onto coconut(Cocos nucifera Linn.)root developed adsorbent

Drinking water with higher fluoride levels results in serious irremediable health problems that have attained a startle all over the *** focused towards deflouridation through the application of biosorbents prepared from various plants are finding greater scope and *** research is done on Cocos nucifera Linn.(coconut tree) one of the very commonly available plants throughout Kerala and around the *** adsorbent developed from the root portion of *** *** used in the present *** study revealed that the fluoride uptake capacity is quite significant and linearly increases with initial adsorbate *** adsorption data is analyzed for Langmuir, Freundlich, Temkin, and Dubinin–Radushkevich isotherm models at varying initial adsorbate concentrations(2–25 mg·L^(-1)).It is found that the adsorption of fluoride onto *** *** adsorbent follows Langmuir *** isotherm constants "a" and "b" obtained are 2.037 mg·g^(-1) and 0.823 L·mg^(-1) at an adsorbent dose of 8 g·L^(-1) and temperature(26 ± 1) ℃.The mean free sorption energy, E obtained, is 9.13 kJ ·mol^(-1) which points out that the adsorption of fluoride onto *** *** adsorbent is by chemisorption *** kinetic study also supports chemisorption with adsorption data fitting well with a pseudo-second-order kinetic model with an estimated rate constant K_2 of 0.2935 g·mg^(-1) min at an equilibrium contact time of 90 *** thermodynamic study indicated the spontaneous and endothermic nature(ΔH =12.728 kJ·mol^(-1)) of fluoride adsorption onto the *** *** *** Electron Microscopy(SEM), bET, FTIR, and EDX methods were used to analyze the surface morphology of adsorbent before and after fluoride adsorption *** on deflouridation using *** *** adsorbent application on fluoride contaminated ground water samples from fields showed encouraging results.

High-Throughput Phenotyping of Dynamic Canopy Traits Associated with Stay-Green in Grain Sorghum

Drought is a recurring phenomenon that puts crop yields at risk and threatens the livelihoods of many people around the ***-green is a drought adaption phenotype found in sorghum and other *** expressing this phenotype show less drought-induced senescence and maintain functional green leaves for longer when water limitation occurs during grain fill,conferring benefits in both yield per se and *** physiological causes of the phenotype are postulated to be water saving through mechanisms such as reduced canopy size or access to extra water through mechanisms such as deeper *** sorghum breeding programs,stay-green has traditionally been assessed by comparing visual scores of leaf senescence either by identifying final leaf senescence or by estimating rate of leaf *** this study,we compared measurements of canopy dynamics obtained from remote sensing on two sorghum breeding trials to stay-green values(breeding values)obtained from visual leaf senescence ratings in multienvironment breeding trials to determine which components of canopy development were most closely linked to the stay-green ***,canopy size as estimated using preflowering canopy parameters was weakly correlated with stay-green values for leaf senescence while postflowering canopy parameters showed a much stronger association with leaf *** study suggests that factors other than canopy size have an important role in the expression of a stay-green phenotype in grain sorghum and further that the use of UAVs with multispectral sensors provides an excellent way of measuring canopy traits of hundreds of plots grown in large field trials.

Effect of <i>Ginkgo biloba</i>Extract Ingestion on Plasma Total Cortisol Levels during an Oral Glucose Tolerance Test in Normal Glucose Tolerant Individuals

Protracted periods of increased cortisol production, as may be seen in an acute illness, may lead to transient hyperglycemia. Increasing evidence suggests that cortisol may then mediate the development of insulin resistance and potentially lead to the development of overt diabetes. Evidence in animal studies also suggests that under conditions of stress Ginkgo biloba extract could reduce plasma cortisol production and so the primary aim of this study was to determine the effect of Ginkgo biloba extract ingestion on plasma cortisol production during an acute period of glucose challenge. Healthy non-diabetic, glucose tolerant volunteers (n = 30, (10/20, M/F);age, 45.7 ± 9.9 years old) completed a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled crossover study when they ingested Ginkgo biloba extract (120 mg/day as a single dose) and placebo during each 3-month arm. A standard 75 g oral glucose tolerance test was performed at the end of each cycle and blood was collected and used to measure plasma glucose, insulin, c-peptide and cortisol. Fasting plasma cortisol was significantly lower after the Ginkgo biloba cycle than the placebo cycle (326 ± 149 vs. 268 ± 121 nmol/L, respectively;p = 019). The plasma cortisol area under the curve during the 2-hour test (AUC0-2) was also significantly lower after ingestion of the Ginkgo biloba cycle compared to the placebo (668 ± 265 vs. 530 ± 213 nmol/L/h, respectively;p biloba extract has effect on the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis leading to reduced basal cortisol levels and reduced cortisol production in response to acute hyperglycemic challenge.
