BACKGROUND Studies have shown elevated C-reactive protein(CRP)to predict mechanical ventilation(mV)in patients with coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19).Its utility is unknown in patients with chronic kidney disease(CKD),who have elevated baseline CRP levels due to chronic inflammation and reduced renal *** To assess whether an association exists between elevated inflammatory markers and mV rate in patients with stagesⅢb-ⅤCKD and *** We conducted a retrospective cohort study on patients with COVID-19 and stagesⅢb-Ⅴ*** primary outcome was the rate of invasive mV,the rate of noninvasive mV,and the rate of no *** analyses used unpaired t-test for continuous variables and chi-square analysis for categorical *** for variables were CRP:100 mg/L,ferritin:530 ng/mL,D-dimer:0.5 mg/L,and lactate dehydrogenase(LDH):590 U/*** 290 were screened,and 118 met the inclusion ***,D-dimer,and ferritin were significantly different among the three *** univariate analysis for invasive mV(ImV),CRP had an odds ratio(OR)-5.44;ferritin,OR-2.8;LDH,OR-7.7;D-dimer,OR-3.9,(Pmission CRP level had an area under curve-receiver operator characteristic(AUROC):0.747 for the ImV group(sensitivity-80.8%,specificity-50%)and 0.663 for the non-ImV(NImV)group(area under the curve,sensitivity-69.2%,specificity-53%).CONCLUSION Our results demonstrate a positive correlation between CRP,ferritin,and D-dimer levels and mV and NImV rates in CKD *** AUROC demonstrates a good sensitivity for CRP levels in detecting the need for mV in patients with stagesⅢb-Ⅴ*** may be because of the greater magnitude of increased inflammation due to COVID-19 itself compared with increased inflammation and reduced clearance due to CKD alone.

β-myosin heavy chain mutations are the most frequently identified basis for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy （HCm）. A transgenic mouse model （αmHC403） has been extensively used to study various mechanistic aspects of HCm. There is general skepticism whether mouse and human disease features are similar. Herein we compare morphologie and functional characteristics, and disease evolu- tion, in a transgenic mouse and a single family with a mHC mutation. Ten male αWHC403 transgenic mice （at -5 weeks, -12 weeks, and -24 weeks） and 10 HCm patients from the same family with a β-myosin heavy chain mutation were enrolled. morphometric, conventional echocardiographic, tissue Doppler and strain analytic characteristics of transgenic mice and HCm patients were assessed. Ten male transgenic mice （αmHC403） were examined at ages -5 weeks, -12 weeks, and -24 Weeks. In the transgenic mice, aging was associated with a significant increase in septal （0.59±0.06 vs. 0.64±-0.05 vs. 0.69±0.11 mm, P〈0.01） and anterior wall thickness （0.58±0.1 vs. 0.62±0.07 vs. 0.80-1-0.16 mm, P〈0.001）, which was coincident with a significant decrease in circumferential strain （-22%=1=4% vs. -20%-4-3% vs. -19%-4-3%, P=0.03）, global longitudinal strain （-19%-4-3% vs. -17%-4-2% vs. -16%±3%, P=0.001） and E/A ratio （1.9±0.3 vs. 1.7-4-0.3 vs. 1.4-4-0.3, P=0.01）. The HCm patients were classified into 1st generation （n=6; mean age 534-6 years）, and 2nd generation （n=4; mean age 32＋8 years）. Septal thickness （2.2±0.9 vs. 1.4±0.1 cm, P〈0.05）, left atrial （LA） volume （62±16 vs. 41±5 mL, P=0.03）, E/A ratio （0.77±0.21 vs. 1.1±0.1, P=0.01）, E/e＇ ratio （25±10 vs. 12±2, P=0.03）, global left ventricular （LV） strain （-14%±3% vs. -20%±3%, P=0.01） and global LV early diastolic strain rate （0.76±0.17 s1 vs. 1.3±0.2 s-1, P=0.01） were significantly worse in the older generation. Colorectal cancers in ulcerative colitis from a low-prevalence area for colon cancer

AIm: To determine the incidence and risk factors for colorectal cancer(CRC) in patients with ulcerative colitis from a low prevalence region for ***: Our prospective database yielded a cohort of 430 patients [age: 44 ± 14.6 years; 248 men(57.7%)] with ulcerative colitis(median disease duration 6, range: 1-39 years) for analysis. Of these, 131(30.5%) had left-sided colitis and 159(37%) extensive colitis. Patients with histologically confirmed CRC within the segment with colitis were compared with those without CRC, to determine the risk factors for the development of ***: Twelve patients(2.8%) developed CRC. The overall incidence density was 3.56/1000 patient-years of disease- 3/1000 in the first 10 years, 3.3/1000 at 10 to 20 years, and 7/1000 at > 20 years. Three of our 12 patients developed CRC within 8 years of disease onset. On univariate analysis, extensive colitis, longer duration of disease, and poor control of disease were associated with development of CRC. On multivariate analysis, duration of disease and extent of colitis remained ***: CRC occurred in 2.8% of patients with ulcerative colitis in our population- an incidence density similar to that in Western countries in spite of a low overall prevalence of colon cancer in our *** risk increased with extent and duration of disease.

Physical properties of sandstone reservoirs: Implication for fluid mobility
