As part of a Network for Earthquake Engineering Simulation research project led by researchers at the University of washington with collaborators at University at Buffalo, and Taiwan National Center for Research on Earthquake Engineering, a self-centering steel plate shear wall （SC-SPSw） system has been developed to achieve enhanced seismic performance objectives, including recentering. The SC-SPSw consists of thin steel infill panels, referred to as web plates that serve as the primary lateral load-resisting and energy dissipating element of the system. Post- tensioned （PT） beam-to-column connections provide system recentering capabilities. A performance-based design procedure has been developed for the SC-SPSw, and a series of nonlinear response history analyses have been conducted to verify intended seismic performance at multiple hazard levels. Quasi-static subassembly tests, quasi-static and shake table tests of scaled three-story specimens, and pseudo-dynamic tests of two full-scale two-story SC-SPSws have been conducted. As a culmination of this multi-year, multi-institutional project, this paper will present an overview of the SC- SPSw numerical and experimental research programs. This paper will also discuss innovative PT connection and web plate designs that were investigated to improve constructability, resilience, and seismic performance and that can be applied to other self-centering and steel plate shear wall systems.

Recent invasions by non-native gobiid fish species that are ongoing in the western European rivers Rhine and Meuse, will lead to interactions with native benthic fish species. Since both non-native gobiids and native benthic species are bottom dwelling species with a preference for shelter during at least part of their life cycle, it is likely that competition for shelter will occur between these non-native and native species when shelter is a limiting factor. To investigate the importance of this mechanism for species replacements, various habitat choice experiments were conducted between two common native benthic fish species (Cottus perifretumandBarbatula barbatula) and four invasive non-native gobiid species (Proterorhinus semilunaris,Neogobius melanostomus,N. kessleriandN. fluviatilis). The first series of single specimen experiments determined the habitat choice of each individual fish species. In a second series of competition experiments, shifts in habitat choice in comparison with the previously observed habitat choice, were determined when a native benthic fish species co-occurred with non-native gobiid species. NativeC. perifretumdisplayed a significant shift in habitat choice in co-occurrence with the gobiidsN. kessleriorP. semilunaris. C. perifretumwas outcompeted and moved from the available shelter place to less preferred habitat types. During the competition experiments no change in habitat choice ofB. barbatulawas shown. Our study therefore suggests that competition for shelter is likely to occur in rivers invaded byN. kessleriandP. semilunarisat sites where shelter is limiting.

Thermodynamic assessment of Ti-Co-Cu ternary system has been carried out by combining first-principle calculation and CALPHAD method. Firstly, formation enthalpies of stable and hypothesized compounds were calculated by first-principles method. Then, based on reported experimental information, a thermodynamic description of the Ti-Co-Cu ternary system was performed. Solution phases were treated as substitutional solutions of which excess Gibbs energies were formulated by Redlich-Kister polynomial, and the intermediate phases were described with sublattice models. All measured isothermal sections were reasonably reproduced. In addition, liquidus projection of this ternary system was further calculated, which may be useful for relevant materials processing.

This paper reviews the recent developments in programs and tools for healthy city design with special reference to densely populated cities. The research agenda that underpin the development of these programs and tools are also discussed. The review shows that progress in healthy city design must be built upon theories that explains the relationship between the hardware and software of city at all levels (such as urban landscape, planning, building design, development density, infrastructure, traffic management, building management etc) and the physical and mental well being of its citizens. Since data on the latter is often difficult to come by, observable factors that are known to have a direct bearing on human health conditions such as air quality, water quality, noise level, thermal comfort etc are used instead. The discovery of these theories requires knowledge from different fields and thus calls for a multidisciplinary approach. In addition, many recent programs and tools for healthy city design also aim at resolving implementation issues. Resolving these issues is often the key to building a healthy city.

利用中子衍射和有限元法分析不锈钢复合板补焊残余应力,结果表明:计算结果与测试结果具有一致性.焊缝和热影响区产生了较高的残余应力,远离热影响区,残余应力逐渐降低.由于局部补焊加热,沿厚度方向产生了弯曲应力;在不锈钢覆层,最大残余应力位于热影响区,由于加工硬化的影响,其值已超过屈服强度.因此,采用常规标准假设会使评定结果与实际存在差异,利用中子衍射与有限元法相结合,不仅可以准确获得残余应力大小,而且可以获得沿厚度方向分布的残余应力,满足安全评定标准有关处理焊接残余应力的要求.

Microstructure formed in the Fe-Ni-Co-Al-Cu-Ti permanent magnetic alloy with different treatments was studied by means of TEM observation, XRD method and SAXS technology. The results indicated that spinodal decomposition and orderiing transformation coexisted in the alloy and spinodal decomposition was completed in a short time. The ratio of component of spinodal and ordered microstructure was dependent on the cooling rate. The variation of gyration radius RG of the rod-like precipitates could be accounted for by the different growth modes of the precipitates related to strain energy and interface energy.
