As a key low-power communication tech-nique,backscatter communications exploits the reflected or backscattered signals to transmit data,where the backscattered signals can be the reflection of ambient radio frequency(RF)signals,the RF signals from the dedicated carrier emitter or the signal photons in the non-classical quantum entangled pairs,*** the past 70 years,various kinds of backscatter communication systems have been developed,which will enable the low-power communications as required in the Internet of things(IoTs)and green *** article provides a historical view on the development and the research achievements on backscatter communications,including the fundamental principles,the applications,the challenges,and the potential research *** article will benefit the researchers and engineers concerning the area of backscatter communications,especially for applications in IoTs.

As the number of Americans aged 65 years and older continues to rise,there is projected to be a corresponding increase in demand for major surgeries within this ***,it is important to utilize accurate preoperative risk stratification techniques that are applicable to elderly ***,commonly used preoperative risk assessments are subjective and often do not account for elderly-specific syndromes that may pose a hazard for geriatric patients if not *** to accurately risk-stratify these patients may increase the risk of postoperative complications,morbidity,and ***,we aimed to identify and discuss the more objective and better-validated measurements indicative of poor surgical outcomes in the elderly with special focus on frailty,patient optimization,functional status,and cognitive ability.

This study was conducted to assess agricultural practices for generating maximum maize productivity in drought prone agro-ecological zones. The experiment was conducted in Cyili sub-catchment in Southern Province of Rwanda, which has an irregular rainfall distribution and a prolonged dry season. The experimental design consisted of a randomized design and each treatment was replicated three times. Findings from this study revealed that maize grain yield and yield components, such as plant height, cob diameter and length, number of leaves, 100 grain weight, and yield per plant were highly significantly affected (P methods tested. Only germination rate was not significantly impacted (p > 0.05). Supplementary irrigation treatment increased maize yield production to 11,982 kg ha-1. mulching increased yield significantly to 8089 kg ha-1. Ridges yielded 5937 kg ha-1, and rainfed treatment yielded 4755 kg ha-1 of maize. Based on Pearson's correlation coefficients, grain yield and yield components were positively correlated and statistically significant (p methods. Supplementary irrigation through rainwater harvesting was found to be a more promising option for maize growers to mitigate dry spell and stabilize maize production in rainfall deficient agro-ecological conditions not only in Rwanda, but in sub-Sahara Africa.

The physics of low Reynolds number plumes is well understood, which allows a number of testable predictions to be made about mantle plumes. They are predicted to originate from the core-mantle boundary and consist of a large head followed by a narrower tail. millions of cubic kilometers of magma can be produced from a plume head. Rifting over a previously-emplaced plume head should produce a narrow zone of thickened oceanic crust along the rift margin. Initial eruption from a plume head should be preceded by -1,000 m of domal uplift. Picrites are expected to dominate the first eruptive products of a new plume and should be concentrated near the centre of the volcanic province. All of these predictions are confirmed by observations, and so provide strong support for the validity of the mantle plume hypothesis.

In recent years,pediatric health care has embraced the concept of quality improvement to improve patient *** quality improvement efforts are implemented,network collaboration(where multiple centers and practices implement standardized programs)is a popular *** a collaborative network,improvement in the conduct of structural,process and outcome quality measures can lead to improvements in overall health,and benchmarks can be used to assess and compare *** this review article,we provided an overview of the quality improvement movement and the role of quality indicators in this *** reviewed current quality improvement efforts in pediatric inflammatory bowel disease (IBD),as well as other pediatric chronic *** discussed the need to standardize the development of quality indicators used in quality improvement networks to assess medical care,and the validation techniques which can be used to ensure that process indicators result in improved outcomes of clinical *** aimed to assess current quality improvement efforts in pediatric IBD and other diseases,such as childhood asthma,childhood arthritis,and neonatal *** doing so,we hope to learn from their successes and failures and to move the field forward for future improvements in the care provided to children with IBD.

Atherosclerotic renal artery stenosis (ARAS), a common clinical finding, is increasing in prevalence as the population ages. ARAS is seen in ～ 7% of persons over 65 years of age1 and in ～ 20% of patients at the time of coronary angiography.2 It is an important cause of chronic kidney disease and may result in 11-14% of cases of end stage renal disease.

This paper presents a control strategy for residential battery energy storage systems,which is aware of volatile electricity markets and uncertain daily cycling *** economic benefits of energy trading for prosumers are achieved through a novel modification of a conventional model predictive control(mPC).The proposed control strategy guarantees an optimal global solution for the applied control action.A new cost function is introduced to model the effects of volatility on customer benefits more ***,the newly presented cost function models a probabilistic relation between the power exchanged with the grid,the net load,and the electricity *** probabilistic calculation of the cost function shows the dependence on the mathematical expectation of market price and net *** techniques for calculating this value are *** proposed strategy differs from the stochastic and robust mPC in that the cost is calculated across the market price and net load variations rather than across model constraints and parameter variations.

The accuracy of channel state information(CSI) acquisition directly affects the performance of millimeter wave(mmWave) communications. In this article, we provide an overview on CSI acquisition,including beam training and channel estimation for mmWave massive multiple-input multiple-output *** beam training can avoid the estimation of a high-dimension channel matrix, while the channel estimation can flexibly exploit advanced signal processing techniques. In addition to introducing the traditional and machine learning-based approaches in this article, we also compare different approaches in terms of spectral efficiency, computational complexity, and overhead.
