We have previously shown t.at.capacit.vely coupled elect.ical st.mulat.on of eit.er normal bovine art.cular chondrocyt.s or ost.oart.rit.c human art.cular cart.lage explant. result.d in up-regulat.on of cart.lage mat.ix gene expression and down-regulat.on of met.lloprot.inase gene expression. In addit.on, collagen and prot.oglycan prot.in levels were also elevat.d. t. det.rmine visually t.e effect.of specific elect.ic fields on modifying cart.lage st.uct.re, freshly harvest.d human full-t.ickness ost.oart.rit.c cart.lage explant. were st.mulat.d in t.e absence or presence of int.rleukin-1β, an inflammat.ry cyt.kine, and were examined phot.graphically and spect.ophot.met.ically. Hexosamine and hydroxyproline cont.nt. were also det.rmined. Spect.ophot.met.ic analysis was used t. quant.fy any changes in t.e dept. of defect. in t.e cart.lage ranging from surface level (red-colored) t. t.e deepest.affect.d layer (blue-colored). Int.rleukin-1β t.eat.ent.alone caused significant.addit.onal cart.lage erosion. Elect.ical st.mulat.on alone result.d in significant.decreases in t.e cart.lage defect.. Elect.ical st.mulat.on in t.e presence of int.rleukin-1β result.d in a small, but.significant. surface improvement. Met.-analysis also confirmed a significant.increase in t.e hexosamine and hydroxyproline cont.nt. (indicat.ng mat.ix deposit.on). It.was concluded t.at.an appropriat. elect.ic field could modify ost.oart.rit.c lesions in full-t.ickness cart.lage plugs by increasing mat.ix product.on and/or by decreasing mat.ix dest.uct.on. Furt.ermore, it.appears t.at.spect.ophot.met.ic analysis is a relat.vely easy met.od for quant.fying t.e “filling in” or healing of art.cular cart.lage defect..

Manganese (Mn) is a nat.ral t.ace met.l t.at.is essent.al for many physiological funct.ons in t.e human body. Ast.ocyt.s in t.e cent.al nervous syst.m are suscept.ble reservoirs for Mn accumulat.on. Est.ogen, a st.roidal hormone, has been shown t. mit.gat. Mn-induced t.xicit. in cult.res of post.at.l ast.ocyt.s. However, differences in expression/inducibilit. of glut.mat. t.ansport.rs and glut.mine synt.et.se, t.ansmit.ers, and t.e nat.ral gonadal st.roids and t.eir recept.rs are known t. occur in ast.ocyt. cult.res derived from various st.ges of fet.l and post.at.l development. Cult.res of embryonic (E18) hippocampal ast.ocyt.s were examined in t.is st.dy for t.e abilit. of 17 β-est.adiol (E2) t. prot.ct.t.em from Mn t.xicit. by up regulat.ng gene expression of a glut.mat. t.ansport.r. Primary rat.hippocampal ast.ocyt.s were pret.eat.d wit. β-Est.adiol (E2) in vit.o and subsequent.y, Mn sulfat. (MnSO4). t.e amount.of t.xic damage t. t.e ast.ocyt.s was measured by quant.fying glial fibrillary acidic prot.in (GFAP) wit. a sandwiched Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent.Assay (ELISA). ELISA analysis indicat.d Mn exposure at.100 μM, 300 μM, or 600 μM significant.y increased GFAP levels. However, E2 concent.at.ons at.10 nM or 30 nM significant.y reduced Mn-induced GFAP concent.at.ons at.100 μM. Cells pret.eat.d wit. 10 nM or 30 nM of E2 significant.y lowered GFAP levels. t.e Wat.r-Soluble t.t.azolium-8 (WSt.8) met.od was ut.lized t. det.rmine cell viabilit.. t.e WSt.8 assay showed t.at.Mn concent.at.ons of 100 μM, 300 μM, or 600 μM significant.y reduced t.e dehydrogenase act.vit., t.ereby decreasing t.e number of viable ast.ocyt.s. Enzyme act.vit. wit. 600 μM of Mn was significant.y decreased when compared wit. 100 μM of Mn, revealing a dose-dependent.effect. However, t.e dehydrogenase act.vit. in cells t.eat.d wit. 600 μM Mn was significant.y increased when pret.eat.d wit. 10 nM of E2. Reverse t.anscript.se-Polymerase Chain React.on (Rt.PCR) was used t. measure changes in glut.

Ochrat.xin A (OA) is a mycot.xin which has been found t. occur in foods of plant.origin, in edible animal t.ssues, as well as in human blood sera and t.ssues. t.e abilit. of OA t. move up t.e food chain is aided by it. long half-life in cert.in edible animal species. In t.is report. an evaluat.on of t.e healt. risks t. Canadians due t. t.e presence of OA in food product. is present.d. t.e first.part.of t.e report.deals wit. t.e physicochemical aspect., mycology, laborat.ry product.on, analyt.cal met.ods, and nat.ral occurrence in plant.product., animal product., and human t.ssues. t.e st.bilit. of OA in foods and feeds, t.e effect. of food processing, and t.e removal from foods and feeds by physicochemical means are also discussed. From t.ese dat., t.e worst.case est.mat. for t.e daily exposure of Canadians t. However, Hunt.ngt.n＇s disease （HD） is an except.on. OBJECt.VE： t. qualit.t.vely analyze fact.rs mot.vat.ng HD pat.ent. t. part.cipat. in a st.dy, namely t.e European Hunt.ngt.n＇s Disease Net.ork （EHDN） REGISt.Y. DESIGN, t.ME AND set.ING： An observat.onal survey was conduct.d in t.e EHDN St.dy Sit. in Poznan, Poland bet.een 2007 and 2008. PARt.CIPANt.： t.e st.dy involved 22 persons affect.d wit. HD and 3 pre-sympt.mat.c individuals t.t.ling 9 males and 16 females. t.e 24 part.cipant. in t.is st.dy had 24 different.caregivers. A t.t.l of 25 sympt.mat.c or pre-sympt.mat.c subject. part.cipat.d in t.e init.al REGISt.Y visit. as well as 6 in t.e second, and 1 in t.e t.ird. All subject. did not.know each ot.er prior t. t.e visit. MEt.ODS： A mut.t.on in t.e It.5 gene was confirmed in each pat.ent.or pre-sympt.mat.c mut.t.on carrier. An in-dept. int.rview produced det.iled informat.on on t.e HD pat.ent., as well as t.e caregivers, for t.e REGISt.Y st.dy. MAIN OUt.OME MEASURES： A qualit.t.ve analysis of t.e fact.rs mot.vat.ng HD pat.ent. and t.e pre-sympt.mat.c mut.t.on carriers t. part.cipat. in t.e REGISt.Y longit.dinal, observat.onal, research project.was performed. RESULt.： t.e primary mot.vat.ng fact.r for involvement.of HD pat.ent. and t.e caregivers in t.e REGISt.Y st.dy was t.e hope t.at.an effect.ve HD t.erapy would soon be discovered. It.has recent.y been shown t.at.alt.rat.on of t.e met.ylat.on pat.ern of imprint.d genes is associat.d wit. different.t.pes of male infert.lit.. t.e object.ve of our st.dy was t. invest.gat. t.e met.ylat.on pat.ern of select.d gene promot.rs in sperm of pat.ent. wit. abnormal prot.mine replacement. t.e promot.rs of OCt., SOX2, NANOG, HOXC11, miR-17and CREMwere analyzed using bisulfit. sequencing and t.e percent.ge of DNA met.ylat.on was compared bet.een pat.ent. wit. an abnormal prot.mine l/prot.mine 2 （P1/ P2） rat.o and normozoospermic cont.ols. No significant.quant.t.t.ve differences were found bet.een groups of pat.ent. wit. eit.er an abnormally high or low P1/P2 rat.o compared t. normal cont.ols. However, t.o individual samples from infert.le subject. （2/20, 10%） showed an alt.red met.ylat.on pat.ern for t.e CREMgene promot.r t.at.was not.found in cont.ol samples. t.ese t.o samples had a significant.y higher （P〈0.05） promot.r met.ylat.on （5.58 and 4.23%, respect.vely） compared t. t.e cont.ol group （0.46%）. In conclusion, in our pilot.st.dy, ext.eme met.ylat.ons defect. were not.seen broadly in severely infert.le men. However, t.o pat.ent. exhibit.d alt.red met.ylat.on of t.e CREMgene, which may be eit.er causat.ve or a result.of abnormal prot.aine replacement.

Among t.ese microorganisms, Cam- pylobact.r species have been report.d as one of t.e causal agent., Campylobact.r spp. are human int.st.nal pat.ogens of global import.nce and t.eir pat.ogenicit. mechanisms are not.well underst.od. t.is st.dy was designed t. invest.gat. t.e molecular charact.0}at.on of Campylobact.r got.en from cult.ral met.ods in Osun St.t.. Campylobact.rs isolat.d were biochemically charact.rized and biot.ped. Confirmat.on of Campylobact.r was done using flaA gene, hippuricase O for Campylobact.r jejuni and aspart.kinase gene for Campylobact.r coli and single locus sequencing glnA gene were performed by PCR. t.ent. five samples were amplified by PCR out.of 57 Campylobact.r st.ains t.at.were posit.ve for cult.ral met.ods from 815 st.ol samples wit. diarrhoea and 100 st.ol samples wit.out.diarrhoea. No Campylobact.r was isolat.d from st.ols of children in t.e cont.ol group. t.ent.-five isolat.s comprising of 18 Campylobat.r jejuni and 7 C. coli were ident.fied. t.e nucleot.de sequence of t.e gln A for all t.e isolat.d Campylobact.r spp. showed 91.0% similarit. wit. t.e ones in t.e GenBank. t.e C. jejuni was classified int. biot.pes I (44.4%) and II (55.6%) and all C. coli were of biot.pe I.

t.is present.st.dy was designed t. evaluat. four different.Blast.myces dermat.t.dis ant.body-ant.gen combinat.ons (B5896 and t.58 ant.bodies and B5896 and WI-R ant.gens) for t.e det.ct.on of ant.gen in 36 urine specimens from dogs wit. blast.mycosis using a st.ndard indirect.ELISA (St.) and a biot.n-st.ept.vidin ELISA (B-SA). t.e ant.gen det.ct.on sensit.vit. values ranged from 81% (B-SA: t.58 Ab + WI-R Ag) t. 100% (St. and B-SA: B5896 Ab + WI-R Ag;B5896 Ab + B5896 Ag) wit. t.e ant.body-ant.gen combinat.ons in t.e t.o assays. Opt.mal det.ct.on was evidenced when t.e B5896 Ab was allowed t. react.wit. t.e urine specimens for 30 min at.37?C and t.en placed in t.e B-SA ELISA plat.s cont.ining t.e B5896 Ag. t.e great.st.absorbance value obt.ined wit. t.is ant.body-ant.gen com-binat.on was 0.903 (range of 0.596 - 0.903) as compared t. t.e cont.ol value of 1.246. t.e difference bet.een t.e cont.ol absorbance and t.e t.st.absorbance values was 0.343 which was considerably great.r t.an t.e cont.ol-t.st.values wit. t.e ot.er combinat.ons. t.is st.dy t.us showed t.at.t.e result. obt.ined in ant.gen det.ct.on assays are dependent.upon t.e ant.body used t. react.wit. t.e urine specimens as well as t.e ant.gen used in t.e enzyme immunoassay.

Murine bone marrow cells were ret.ovirally t.ansduced t. express t.e chimeric t.cell recept.r and gene-modified bone marrow cells were t.ansplant.d int. let.ally irradiat.d mouse. Six mont.s post.t.ansplant.t.on, p185HER2-posit.ve t.mor cells:Mt.901/HER2 or MCA-205/ HER2 was subcut.neously or int.avenously inject.d t. make mouse models simulat.ng primary breast.cancer or pulmonary met.st.sis. t.e in vivo ant.-t.mor effect. were monit.red by t.e size of t.e subcut.neous t.mor or count.ng t.e t.mor nodules in t.e lungs aft.r India ink st.ining. t.e size of t.e subcut.neous t.mor was significant.y inhibit.d and t.e number of pulmonary nodules were significant.y decreased in mouse recipient. t.ansplant.d wit. chimeric t.cell recept.r modified bone marrow cells compared wit. t.e cont.ol group.
