Enhanced interfacial charge transfer on Bi metal@defective Bi_(2)Sn_(2)O_(7) quantum dots towards improved full-spectrum photocatalysis:A combined experimental and theoretical investigation

To mitigate the water pollution problem by photocatalytic degradation of typical antibiotics of tetracycline(TC),we prepared defective Bi_(2)Sn_(2)O_7(BSO)quantum dots(QDs)with a full spectral response due to Bi metal deposition,using a one-pot hydrothermal method,labeled as Bi@BSO-OV.The optimized Bi@BSOOV showed 73.4% removal of TC in 1 h under irradiation with a 50 W LED lamp in the wavelength band in the visible-near-infrared(vis-NIR)light,a rate that is substantially greater than that of pure BSO(14.7%).The synergistic interaction of Bi metal and oxygen vacancies(OVs)is crucial to boosting photocatalytic performance.The near-infrared region of the photo-response is extended by the surface plasmon resonance(SPR)effect of Bi metal,enhancing the photocatalytic performance and dramatically raising the efficiency of solar energy utilization.In addition to inducing defect levels in BSO,the OVs also activate the surface adsorbed O_(2) to promote the production of·O_(2)^(-)and ^(1)O_(2).DFT calculations reveal that Bi metal and OVs can mutually tune the charge transfer pathways.On the one hand,Bi metal can act as both a charge transfer bridge and an electron donor to assist charge separation.On the other hand,OVs-induced defect levels allow electrons that leap to the conduction band(CB)to first leap from the valence band(VB)to the defect levels,notably improving interfacial charge separation and transfer.The concept of design executed in this study for altering the catalyst by introducing both OVs and Bi metal can provide a rational design idea and potential insight for improving the photocatalytic activity for environmental applications.

Background:Cerebrovascular disease(CVD)ranks among the foremost factors responsible for mortality on a global scale.The mortality patterns of CVDs and temporal trends in China need to be well-illustrated and updated.Methods:We collected mortality data on patients with CVD from Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s Disease Surveillance Points(CDC-DSP)system.The mortality of CVD in 2020 was described by age,sex,residence,and region.The temporal trend from 2013 to 2019 was evaluated using joinpoint regression,and estimated rates of decline were extrapolated until 2030 using time series models.Results:In 2019,the age-standardized mortality in China(ASMRC)per 100,000 individuals was 113.2.The ASMRC for males(137.7/10^(5))and rural areas(123.0/10^(5))were both higher when stratified by gender and urban/rural residence.The central region had the highest mortality(126.5/10^(5)),the western region had a slightly lower mortality(123.5/10^(5)),and the eastern region had the lowest mortality(97.3/10^(5)).The age-specific mortality showed an accelerated upward trend from aged 55-59 years,with maximum mortality observed in individuals over 85 years of age.The age-standardized mortality of CVD decreased by 2.43%(95%confidence interval,1.02-3.81%)annually from 2013 to 2019.Notably,the age-specific mortality of CVD increased from 2013 to 2019 for the age group of over 85 years.In 2020,both the absolute number of CVD cases and the crude mortality of CVD have increased compared to their values in 2019.The estimated total deaths due to CVD were estimated to reach 2.3 million in 2025 and 2.4 million in 2030.Conclusion:The heightened focus on the burden of CVD among males,rural areas,the central and western of China,and individuals aged 75 years and above has emerged as a pivotal determinant in further decreasing mortalities,consequently presenting novel challenges to strategies for disease prevention and control.

Boosting synergism of chemo- and immunotherapies via switching paclitaxel-induced apoptosis to mevalonate metabolism-triggered ferroptosis by bisphosphonate coordination lipid nanogranules

Conventional chemotherapy based on cytotoxic drugs is facing tough challenges recently following the advances of monoclonal antibodies and molecularly targeted drugs.It is critical to inspire new potential to remodel the value of this classical therapeutic strategy.Here,we fabricate bisphosphonate coordination lipid nanogranules(BC-LNPs)and load paclitaxel(PTX)to boost the chemo-and immuno-therapeutic synergism of cytotoxic drugs.Alendronate in BC-LNPs@PTX,a bisphosphonate to block mevalonate metabolism,works as both the structure and drug constituent in nanogranules,where alendronate coordinated with calcium ions to form the particle core.The synergy of alendronate enhances the efficacy of paclitaxel,suppresses tumor metastasis,and alters the cytotoxic mechanism.Differing from the paclitaxel-induced apoptosis,the involvement of alendronate inhibits the mevalonate metabolism,changes the mitochondrial morphology,disturbs the redox homeostasis,and causes theaccumulation of mitochondrial ROS and lethal lipid peroxides(LPO).These factors finally trigger the ferroptosis of tumor cells,an immunogenic cell death mode,which remodels the suppressive tumor immune microenvironment and synergizes with immunotherapy.Therefore,by switching paclitaxel-induced apoptosis to mevalonate metabolism-triggered ferroptosis,BC-LNPs@PTX provides new insight into the development of cytotoxic drugs and highlights the potential of metabolism regulation in cancer therapy.

Background: Fructose may induce non-alcoholic fatty acids (NAFLD) due to the gut-liver axis interactions. The mechanism of fructose impairing colon barrier is unrevealed. Methods: Normal and DSS-induced Sprague-Dawley rats fed by 35% fructose diets were used to evaluate colon barrier functions. Microbiome and metabolome were applied to screen potential biomarker bacteria and metabolites induced by fructose. HT-29 cells were applied to validate metabolite biomarker indoleacrylic acid (IAA) and indole-3-carboxaldehyde (I3A) function in colon barrier which impaired by fructose. Results: Fructose induced colon barrier dysfunction， aggravated colon impairment in DSS-induced rats. With fructose intake， the colon length shortened， goblet numbers declined， inflammation infiltration induced， inflammatory cytokines increased， and apoptosis signals upregulated in colon tissue. Moreover， fructose induced dysbiosis of microbiota and their metabolites. Adlercreutzia， Holdemania were screened out as potential bacteria biomarkers， IAA and I3A as tryptophan metabolites were selected as metabolite biomarkers inhibited by fructose. IAA and I3A treatment alleviated the impairment induced by fructose by increasing trans epithelial electric resistance (TEER) value， tight junction proteins (TJPs)， and AhR activity in HT-29 cell. Conclusion: Fructose stimulated inflammation， apoptosis， gut bacteria alteration， and induced the reduction of IAA and I3A. Since fructose inhibited production of IAA and I3A， AhR remained inactivated and consequently induced colon barrier dysfunction.

Transition towards carbon-neutral power systems has necessitated optimization of power dispatch in active distribution networks(ADNs)to facilitate integration of distributed renewable generation.Due to unavailability of network topology and line impedance in many distribution networks,physical model-based methods may not be applicable to their operations.To tackle this challenge,some studies have proposed constraint learning,which replicates physical models by training a neural network to evaluate feasibility of a decision(i.e.,whether a decision satisfies all critical constraints or not).To ensure accuracy of this trained neural network,training set should contain sufficient feasible and infeasible samples.However,since ADNs are mostly operated in a normal status,only very few historical samples are infeasible.Thus,the historical dataset is highly imbalanced,which poses a significant obstacle to neural network training.To address this issue,we propose an enhanced constraint learning method.First,it leverages constraint learning to train a neural network as surrogate of ADN's model.Then,it introduces Synthetic Minority Oversampling Technique to generate infeasible samples to mitigate imbalance of historical dataset.By incorporating historical and synthetic samples into the training set,we can significantly improve accuracy of neural network.Furthermore,we establish a trust region to constrain and thereafter enhance reliability of the solution.Simulations confirm the benefits of the proposed method in achieving desirable optimality and feasibility while maintaining low computational complexity.

The persistent epidemic of human mpox, caused by mpox virus (MPXV), raises concerns about the future spread ofMPXV and other poxviruses. MPXV is a typical zoonotic virus which can infect human and cause smallpox-likesymptoms. MPXV belongs to the Poxviridae family, which has a relatively broad host range from arthropods tovertebrates. Cross-species transmission of poxviruses among different hosts has been frequently reported andresulted in numerous epidemics. Poxviruses have a complex linear double-strand DNA genome that encodeshundreds of proteins. genes related to the host range of poxvirus are called host range genes (HRGs). This reviewbriefly introduces the taxonomy, phylogeny and hosts of poxviruses, and then comprehensively summarizes thecurrent knowledge about the cross-species transmission of poxviruses. In particular, the HRGs of poxvirus aredescribed and their impacts on viral host range are discussed in depth. We hope that this review will provide acomprehensive perspective about the current progress of researches on cross-species transmission and HRGvariation of poxviruses, serving as a valuable reference for academic studies and disease control in the future.

Visualization of MF/Diesel RCCI Combustion Process and Soot Emission

Based on the optical engine,the ignition characteristics,combustion process and soot emission characteristics of diesel under different 2-Methylfuran(MF) atmospheres were investigated by high-speed photography and in-cylinder combustion analysis technology.The results show that at the same main injection timing,the ignition time of reactivity controlled compression ignition(RCCI) combustion mode is earlier than pure diesel combustion,and the ignition point is concentrated near the nozzle.Diesel acts as a spark plug to ignite the mixture,but the flame develops slowly in the early stages and the pressure in the cylinder rises slowly.Compared with pure diesel,RCCI combustion model has smaller peak values of in-cylinder pressure and heat release rate,shorter ignition delay period,earlier combustion phase and shorter combustion duration.At main spray time at 6℃A BTDC and 12℃A BTDC,with the increase of MF premixing ratio from 0 to 0.75,the peak cylinder pressure decreased by 19.6% and 26% respectively.In addition,with the increase of the MF heat value ratio,the area of KL factor> 1.5 in the combustion chamber decreased and the space integral natural luminescence(SINL) peak value decreased by 48.37%,and the soot formation rate and yield decreased significantly.However,when the MF heat value ratio was too large(75% of the total calorific value),the ignition delay period increased,and misfire occurred at the main injection timing of 0℃A BTDC.The RCCI mode of MF/diesel dual fuel has better stability,and better control effect can be obtained at different main inj ection timing.

Background:Ductal carcinoma in situ with microinvasion(DCIS-MI)is defined as ductal carcinoma in situ(DCIS)with a microscopic invasive focus≤1 mm in the longest diameter.The current literature is controversial concerning the clinical prognostic features and management of DCIS-MI.This narrative review described recently reported literature regarding the characteristics,treatment,and prognosis of it.Methods:Searching PubMed for relevant articles covering the period of 1982 to 2021 using the following terms by MeSH and free-word:breast cancer,microinvasion,DCIS,DCIS-MI,and invasive ductal carcinoma(IDC).Results:DCIS-MI tends to express more aggressive pathological features such as necrosis,HER2+,ER-or PR-,and high nuclear grade.The overall prognosis of DCIS-MI is typically good,however,some indicators such as young age,HR-,HER2+and multimicroinvasive lesions,were associated with worse prognoses.And there are also conflicting results on the differences between the prognoses of DCIS-MI and DCIS or T1a-IDC.Postoperative chemotherapy and anti-HER2 therapy still have uncertain benefits and are more likely to be used to treat high-risk patients who are HR-orHER2+to improve the prognosis.Conclusion:DCIS-MI has more aggressive pathological features,which may suggest its biological behavior is worse than that of DCIS and similar to early IDC.Although the overall prognosis of DCIS-MI is good,when making decisions about adjuvant therapy clinicians need to give priority to the hormone receptor status,HER2 expression and axillary lymph node status of patients,because these may affect the prognosis and treatment response.

This study assesses the reproducibility of 31 historical simulations from 1850 to 2014 in the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project phase 6(CMIP6) for the subsurface(Sub-IOD) and surface Indian Ocean Dipole(IOD) and their association with El Ni?o-Southern Oscillation(ENSO). Most CMIP6 models can reproduce the leading east-west dipole oscillation mode of heat content anomalies in the tropical Indian Ocean(TIO) but largely overestimate the amplitude and the dominant period of the Sub-IOD. Associated with the much steeper west-to-east thermocline tilt of the TIO, the vertical coupling between the Sub-IOD and IOD is overly strong in most CMIP6 models compared to that in the Ocean Reanalysis System 4(ORAS4). Related to this, most models also show a much tighter association of Sub-IOD and IOD events with the canonical ENSO than observations. This explains the more(less) regular Sub-IOD and IOD events in autumn in those models with stronger(weaker) surface-subsurface coupling in TIO. Though all model simulations feature a consistently low bias regarding the percentage of the winter–spring Sub-IOD events co-occurring with a Central Pacific(CP) ENSO, the linkage between a westward-centered CP-ENSO and the Sub-IOD that occurs in winter–spring, independent of the IOD, is well reproduced.
