Inflammatory bowel disease in India- Past, present and future

There is rising incidence and prevalence of inflammatory bowel disease(IBD) in India topping the Southeast Asian(SEA) countries. The common genes implicated in disease pathogenesis in the West are not causal in Indian patients and the role of "hygiene hypothesis" is unclear. There appears to be a North-South divide with more ulcerative colitis(UC) in north and Crohn's disease(CD) in south India. IBD in second generation Indian migrants to the West takes the early onset and more severe form of the West whereas it retains the nature of its country of origin in migrants to SEA countries. The clinical presentation is much like other SEA countries(similar age and sex profile, low positive family history and effect of smoking, roughly similar disease location, use of aminosalicylates for CD, low use of biologics and similar surgical rates) with some differences(higher incidence of inflammatory CD, lower perianal disease, higher use of aminosalicylates and azathioprine and lower current use of corticosteroids). UC presents more with extensive disease not paralleled in severity clinically or histologically, follows benign course with easy medical control and low incidence of fulminant disease, cancer, complications, and surgery. UC related colorectal cancer develop in an unpredictable manner with respect to disease duration and site questioning the validity of strict screening protocol. About a third of CD patients get antituberculosis drugs and a significant number presents with small intestinal bleed which is predominantly afflicted by aggressive inflammation. Biomarkers have inadequate diagnostic sensitivity and specificity for both. Pediatric IBD tends to be more severe than adult. Population based studies are needed to address the lacunae in epidemiology and definition of etiological factors. Newer biomarkers and advanced diagnostic techniques(in the field of gastrointestinal endoscopy, molecular pathology and genetics) needs to be developed for proper disease definiti

There is increasing incidence and prevalence of acute and chronic liver diseases(CLDs)all over the world which influence the quality of life and can give rise to life threatening *** burden of advanced liver disease due to hepatitis B has been controlled by antivirals but its eradication is difficult *** effective directly acting antiviral therapy has reduced the burden of hepatitis C but is partially offset by increasing IV drug ***-alcoholic fatty liver disease pandemic is on and there is recent alarming increase in alcohol related liver disease,both of which have no drug cure apart from control of the risk *** factors have been identified in progression of all forms of *** to better management of complications of CLD,the life span of patients have increased spiking the number of hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)and patients needing liver transplantation(LT).The present severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus pandemic has affected the outcome CLD including LT in addition to causing acute *** diagnostics and therapeutics are available for liver fibrosis,portal hypertension,HCC and post LT management and many drugs are under *** present review summarises the current scenario of the epidemiology and the advances in diagnosis and treatment of liver diseases including their complications like portal hypertension,HCC and LT.

Functional cure of chronic hepatitis B-hope or hype?

Chronic hepatitis B constitutes a substantial disease burden *** steps advocated by the World Health Organization in 2016 to eradicate hepatitis B by 2030 has failed to achieve significant progress,especially with respect to immu-nization coverage and linkage to *** lack of governmental and public awar-eness regarding the long-term implications of hepatitis B burden cause under-funding of developmental *** presently approved treatment modalities have limited efficacy in complete viral eradication,hence the need for newer molecules to achieve functional cure(sustained undetectable hepatitis B surface antigen(HBsAg)and hepatitis B virus DNA in peripheral blood after a finite period of therapy).However,preliminary results from trials of novel therapies show their inadequacy to achieve this end by themselves but better performance with a low baseline serum HBsAg with nucleos(t)ide analogues(NA)treatment which need to be combined with/without pegylated interferon as an *** therapy is limited by cost and adverse events and need to show incremental benefit over the standard of care(long-term NA therapy)with respect to efficacy and drug toxicities,making the development process ***,while such therapies continue to be tested,strategies should still focus on prevention of transmission by non-pharmaceutical measures,vaccination and increasing linkage to care.

City regeneration and development policies and programs have been going through a paradigmatic change in the developed world over the last two *** prime mover of this change is the notion of the creative city:The creative city is one that builds on its cultural resources and traditional creative enterprises,and provides a ’vibrant ecosystem’ necessary for the emerging creative economy and the ’creative class’ that drive post industrial urban economy. Evidence of melt/rock interaction in the Cr-spinel bearing wehrlite rocks of Bangriposi, India: Implications for nature of the metasomatic agent

Cr-spinel bearing wehrlite rocks of Bangriposi are found within the multiply deformed metasedimentary rocks of Singhbhum Group belonging to North Singhbhum Mobile Belt of eastern India. Detailed mineralogical and geochemical studies reveal that these rocks have suffered a two-stage alteration involving a deeper level modal and cryptic metasomatism and a subsequent shallower depth pervasive hydrothermal alteration. Cryptic metasomatism is defined by elevated LREE contents of the wehrlite and its clinopyroxne grains. Metasomatism induced changes in the modal mineralogy of the rocks include the absence of primary orthopyroxene grains, presence of secondary diopside-phlogopite（now present as vermiculite） defining disequilibrium reaction textures and secondary orthopyroxene rims around serpentinized olivine. The mineralogical and geochemical changes due to the metasomatic event present a contrasting picture in regard to the metasomatic history of the rocks. Possible scenarios involving a single stage or multiple stage metasomatism events have been discussed while explaining the metasomatic reactions that took place. An attempt has been made to estimate the REE concentrations of the final equilibrating melt from REE contents of clinopyroxene grains of the wehrlite. The possibility of the LREE-enriched equilibrating melt of the wehrlite rocks（the deeper level metasomatic agent） being similar to residual melts from the E-MORB type parental melts of nearby gabbro suite has been ruled out by geochemical modeling. REE abundance patterns of several natural enriched melts have been compared with REE pattern of calculated LREE-enriched equilibrating melt of the wehrlite and most resemblance has been observed with calcic and potassic melts. It is therefore suggested that the Cr-spinel bearing wehrlite rocks of Bangriposi has been affected by a calcio-potassic melt in deeper level, prior to the shallow level serpentinization event.

Perovskite(Ba,Sr)TiO_(3)glass ceramics were crystallized in the presence of La_(2)O_(3)for glass ceramic system[(Ba_(1-x)Sr_(x))TiO_(3)]-[2SiO_(2)-B2O_(3)]-[K2O]-[La_(2)O_(3)](x=0.0 and 0.4).The formation of major crystalline phase of BaTiO_(3)along with secondary phase of Ba_(2)TiSi_(2)O_(8) was confirmed by X-ray diffraction(XRD)*** crystalline phase was clearly seen in the micrographs of(Ba,Sr)TiO_(3)borosilicate glass ceramic *** prepared glass ceramic samples showed very high values of toughness and elastic *** strontium titanate(BST)glass ceramics are used in barrier layer capacitors for storage of high energy due to their very high dielectric constant and low dielectric loss.

Characterization of Bi2/3Cu3Ti4O12 ceramics synthesized by semi-wet route

Bi2/3Cu3Ti4O12（BCTO） ceramic was synthesized by the semi-wet route using metal nitrate solutions and solid TiO2powder in a stoichiometric ratio. Fourier transform infrared（FTIR） study of BCTO precursor powder and calcined ceramic showed the presence of alcoholic functional groups and the stretching band of Ti-O and Cu-O respectively. X-ray diffraction（XRD）, scanning electron microscope（SEM） and energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy（EDX） were employed to characterize the structure, surface morphology and purity of the sintered BCTO ceramic respectively. X-ray diffraction study confirmed the single phase formation of BCTO ceramic at1073 K. The average dimension of grains calculated by SEM and AFM was found to be in the range of 0.73 ±0.2 μm with clear grain boundaries. Magnetic property was investigated over a wide temperature range 2–300 K at a magnetic field of 7 tesla. The Curie temperature was calculated by zero field cooled(MZFC) and field cooled(MFC) magnetization at 100 Oe applied field which was found to be 125 K. The sintered BCTO ceramic shows high dielectric constant（ε'=2.9×10～4） at 323 K and 100 Hz.

Cu2O nanocubes,octahedra,spheres and truncated rhombic dodecahedral were prepared and their structural,morphological,and electronic properties were investigated by X-ray diffraction analysis.X-ray absorption near edge structure,scanning electron microscope and transmission electron microscope and X-ray absorption near edge ***2O nanocrystals were successfully employed to catalyze the 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition reaction for the synthesis of 1,4-disubstituted ***2O nanocubes and octahedral showed the superior catalytic performance in the cycloaddition *** results reveal that crystal-plane engineering of oxide catalysts is a useful strategy for developing efficient catalysts for organic reaction.

Higher open-circuit voltage set by cobalt redox shuttle in SnO_2 nanofibers-sensitized CdTe quantum dot solar cells

In this study, we report an efficient CdTe-SnOquantum dot（QD） solar cell fabricated by heat-assisted drop-casting of hydrothermally synthesized CdTe QDs on electrospun SnOnanofibers. The as-prepared QDs and SnOnanofibers were characterized by dynamic light scattering（DLS）, UV–Vis spectroscopy,photoluminescence（PL） spectra, X-ray diffraction（XRD） and transmission electron microscopy（TEM）. The SnOnanofibers deposited on fluorine-doped tin oxide（SnO） and sensitized with the CdTe QDs were assembled into a solar cell by sandwiching against a platinum（Pt） counter electrode in presence of cobalt electrolyte. The efficiency of cells was investigated by anchoring QDs of varying sizes on SnO. The best photovoltaic performance of an overall power conversion efficiency of 1.10%, an open-circuit voltage（Voc）of 0.80 V, and a photocurrent density（JSC） of 3.70 m A/cmwere obtained for cells with SnOthickness of5–6 μm and cell area of 0.25 cmunder standard 1 Sun illumination（100 m W/cm）. The efficiency was investigated for the same systems under polysulfide electrolyte as well for a comparison.
