Sediment dynamic responses of coastal salt marsh to typhoon “KAEMI” in Quanzhou Bay,Fujian Province,China

In order to understand the mechanisms of coastal protection by salt marshes during typhoon events,in situ measurements of water level,tidal current speed and direction,and suspended sediment concen-tration (SSC) were carried out using Electromagnetic Current Meter (EMCM,AEM HR),miniature pres-sure sensor (MkV/D) and Seapoint Turbidity Meter (STM) sensor on a tidal flat in Quanzhou Bay,during the period when the typhoon "KAEMI" was passing through the region. The analysis of the data ob-tained shows that the near-bed current speed within the Spartina alterniflora marsh was generally be-low 5 cm s-1,which was apparently smaller than on the adjacent bare flat (i.e. 5―30 cm s-1). The change in the near-bed current speed in response to the typhoon event was not significant within the S. al-terniflora marsh,but the current direction was influenced by the typhoon. The effect of the typhoon on the SSC was highly significant,with the SSC reaching 13 to 19 times the values on the bare flat or within the marsh under fair weather conditions; the near-bed SSC within the marsh was higher than on the bare flat,after the typhoon landed. The near-bed suspended sediment fluxes within the marsh and on the bare flat during the typhoon event were both enhanced,i.e.,4 times larger than under fair weather conditions. During the ebb,the bottom shear stress on the bare flat exceeded the critical shear stress for sediment motion for most of the ebb duration of the tide and,therefore,the bed sediment was eroding,with the erosion flux after the typhoon landed being around 2 to 3 times the value associated with fair weather conditions. In contrast,within the S. alterniflora marsh,the bottom shear stress was mostly lower than the critical shear stress for sediment motion,or lower than the critical shear stress for the maintenance of suspension; hence,the marsh surface was dominated by settling processes,with a settling flux during the typhoon being 3 to 6 times compared with the fair weather sit

Comprehensive and high-resolution emission inventory of atmospheric pollutants for the northernmost cities agglomeration of Harbin-Changchun,China:Implications for local atmospheric environment management

Using a bottom-up estimation method,a comprehensive,high-resolution emission inventory of gaseous and particulate atmospheric pollutants for multiple anthropogenic sectors with typical local sources has been developed for the Harbin-Changchun city agglomeration(HCA).The annual emissions for CO,NO_(x),SO_(2),NH_(3),VOC S,PM_(2.5),PM 10,BC and OC during 2017 in the HCA were estimated to be 5.82 Tg,0.70 Tg,0.34 Tg,0.75 Tg,0.81 Tg,0.67 Tg,1.59 Tg,0.12 Tg and 0.26 Tg,*** PM 10 and SO_(2),the emissions from industry processes were the dominant contributors representing 54.7%and 49.5%,respectively,of the total emissions,while 95.3%and 44.5%of the total NH_(3)and NO x emissions,respectively,were from or associated with agricultural activities and *** distributions showed that most emissions(except NH_(3))occurred in November to March and were concentrated in the central cities of Changchun and Harbin and the surrounding *** burning of straw made an important contribution to PM_(2.5)in the central regions of the northeastern plain during autumn and spring,while domestic coal combustion for heating purposes was significant with respect to SO_(2)and PM_(2.5)emissions during autumn and ***,based on Principal Component Analysis and Multivariable Linear Regression model,air temperature,relative humidity,electricity and energy consumption,and the urban and rural population were optimized to be representative indicators for rapidly assessing the magnitude of regional atmospheric pollutants in the *** indicators and equations were demonstrated to be useful for local atmospheric environment management.

Estuaries are often a significant source of atmospheric CO_(2).However,studies of carbonate systems have predominantly focused on large estuaries,while smaller estuaries have scarcely been *** this study,we collected surface and bottom seawater carbonate samples in the subtropical Jiulong River Estuary across different tidal levels from 2019 to *** results showed that estuarine mixing of freshwater from the river with seawater was the dominant factor influencing the estuarine carbonate ***,estuarine mixing is concomitantly impacted by the net metabolism of biological production and decomposition,groundwater input,release of CO_(2)from the estuary,and precipitation or dissolution of calcium *** estuarine partial pressure of CO_(2)(pCO_(2))varied from 530μatm to 7715μatm,which represents a strong source of atmospheric CO_(2).The mean annual air-sea CO_(2)flux estimated from three different parameterized equations was approximately(25.63±10.25)mol/(m2·a).Furthermore,the annual emission to the atmosphere was approximately(0.031±0.012)Tg C,which accounts for a mere 0.0077%−0.015%of global estuarine *** inorganic carbon(DIC),total alkalinity(TA)and the pCO_(2)exhibited high variability throughout the tidal cycle across all ***,the disparities observed between DIC and TA during low and high tides at identical stations during all cruises ranged from approximately 15%to 30%.The variance in the pCO_(2)was even more pronounced,ranging from approximately 30%to 40%.Thus,tidal discrepancies may need to be taken into consideration to estimate the CO_(2)flux from estuarine systems more accurately.

Mitochondrial damage is a critical driver in myocardial ischemia-reperfusion(I/R)injury and can be alleviated via the mitochondrial *** efficiency of mitochondrial transplantation is determined by mitochondrial *** aldehyde dehydrogenase 2(ALDH2)has a key role in regulating mitochondrial homeostasis,we aimed to investigate its potential therapeutic effects on mitochondrial transplantation via the use of ALDH2 activator,*** present study demonstrated that time-dependent internalization of exogenous mitochondria by cardiomyocytes along with ATP production were significantly increased in response to mitochondrial ***,Alda-1 treatment remarkably promoted the oxygen consumption rate and baseline mechanical function of cardiomyocytes caused by mitochondrial *** transplantation inhibited cardiomyocyte apoptosis induced by the hypoxia-reoxygenation exposure,independent of Alda-1 ***,promotion of the mechanical function of cardiomyocytes exposed to hypoxia-reoxygenation treatment was only observed after mitochondrial Alda-1 treatment and *** using a myocardial I/R mouse model,our results revealed that transplantation of Alda-1-treated mitochondria into mouse myocardial tissues limited the infarction size after I/R injury,which was at least in part due to increased mitochondrial potential-mediated *** conclusion,ALDH2 activation in mitochondrial transplantation shows great potential for the treatment of myocardial I/R injury.

Developing new therapeutic agents for cancer immunotherapy is highly demanding due to the low response ratio of PD-1/PD-L1 blockade in cancer ***,we discovered that the novel immune checkpoint VISTA is highly expressed on a variety of tumor-infiltrating immune cells,especially myeloid derived suppressor cells(MDSCs)and CD8^(+)T ***,peptide C1 with binding affinity to VISTA was developed by phage displayed bio-panning technique,and its mutant peptide VS3 was obtained by molecular docking based *** VS3 could bind VISTA with high affinity and block its interaction with ligand PSGL-1 under acidic condition,and elicit anti-tumor activity in *** peptide DVS3-Pal was further designed by D-amino acid substitution and fatty acid modification,which exhibited strong proteolytic stability and significant anti-tumor activity through enhancing CD8^(+)T cell function and decreasing MDSCs *** is the first study to develop peptides to block VISTA/PSGL-1 interaction,which could act as promising candidates for cancer immunotherapy.

Diabetic ischemic wound treatment remains a critical clinical *** plays a significant role in wound healing during all stages of the tissue repair *** that enhance angiogenesis and neovascularization and improve ischemic pathology may promote the healing of poor wounds,particularly diabetic wounds in highly ischemic *** previously identified a cyclic peptide LXW7 that specifically binds to integrinαvβ3 on endothelial progenitor cells(EPCs)and endothelial cells(ECs),activates vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)receptors,and promotes EC growth and *** this study,we designed and synthesized a multi-functional pro-angiogenic molecule by grafting LXW7 and collagen-binding peptides(SILY)to a dermatan sulfate(DS)glycosaminoglycan backbone,named LXW7-DS-SILY,and further employed this multi-functional molecule to functionalize collagen-based extracellular matrix(ECM)*** confirmed that LXW7-DS-SILY modification significantly promoted EPC attachment and growth on the ECM scaffolds in vitro and supported EPC survival in vivo in the ischemic *** applied in an established Zucker Diabetic Fatty(ZDF)rat ischemic skin flap model,LXW7-DS-SILY-functionalized ECM scaffolds loaded with EPCs significantly improved wound healing,enhanced neovascularization and modulated collagen fibrillogenesis in the ischemic ***,this study provides a promising novel treatment to accelerate diabetic ischemic wound healing,thereby reducing limb amputation and mortality of diabetic patients.

喷丸引入的残余压应力场可以有效地提高构件的疲劳性能,但残余压应力会随着循环周期而发生松弛,进而降低残余压应力对疲劳性能的增益效果,因此深入研究残余应力松弛规律,有助于更加准确的掌握其对疲劳性能的影响。为了系统性地研究残余应力松弛规律,以2024-T351铝合金标准试件为研究对象,综合考虑应力幅、载荷条件和喷丸引起冷作硬化程度的改变对残余应力的影响,根据理论构建残余应力松弛模型。通过拉伸疲劳试验,基于全寿命试验数据和阶段性试验数据对松弛模型进行验证,证明了模型的有效性。

Atmospheric chemistry research has been growing rapidly in China in the last 25 years since the concept of the“air pollution complex”was first proposed by Professor Xiaoyan TANG in *** papers published in 2021 on air pollution(only papers included in the Web of Science Core Collection database were considered),more than 24000 papers were authored or co-authored by scientists working in *** this paper,we review a limited number of representative and significant studies on atmospheric chemistry in China in the last few years,including studies on(1)sources and emission inventories,(2)atmospheric chemical processes,(3)interactions of air pollution with meteorology,weather and climate,(4)interactions between the biosphere and atmosphere,and(5)data *** intention was not to provide a complete review of all progress made in the last few years,but rather to serve as a starting point for learning more about atmospheric chemistry research in *** advances reviewed in this paper have enabled a theoretical framework for the air pollution complex to be established,provided robust scientific support to highly successful air pollution control policies in China,and created great opportunities in education,training,and career development for many graduate students and young *** paper further highlights that developing and low-income countries that are heavily affected by air pollution can benefit from these research advances,whilst at the same time acknowledging that many challenges and opportunities still remain in atmospheric chemistry research in China,to hopefully be addressed over the next few decades.

Enhanced secondary pollution offset reduction of primary emissions during COVID-19 lockdown in China

To control the spread of the 2019 novel coronavirus(COVID-19), China imposed nationwide restrictions on the movement of its population(lockdown) after the Chinese New Year of 2020, leading to large reductions in economic activities and associated emissions. Despite such large decreases in primary pollution, there were nonetheless several periods of heavy haze pollution in eastern China, raising questions about the well-established relationship between human activities and air quality. Here, using comprehensive measurements and modeling, we show that the haze during the COVID lockdown was driven by enhancements of secondary pollution. In particular, large decreases in NOx emissions from transportation increased ozone and nighttime NO3radical formation, and these increases in atmospheric oxidizing capacity in turn facilitated the formation of secondary particulate matter. Our results, afforded by the tragic natural experiment of the COVID-19 pandemic, indicate that haze mitigation depends upon a coordinated and balanced strategy for controlling multiple pollutants.
