Objective:To investigate whether the increase of tumor necrosis factor alpha is dependent on lipidic component of malarial ***:Adherent human monocytes were fed for 3 hours with different meals(native hemozoin;lipid free hemozoin;and control latex particles),then tumor necrosis factor alpha was monitored in cell supernatants up to 48 hours through western blotting or specific enzyme-linked immunoadsorbent *** selected experiments,unfed monocytes were treated with different doses of 15(S,R)-hydroxy-6,8,11,13-eicosatetraenoic acid or 4-hydroxynonenal instead of ***:Hemozoin-fed monocytes produced higher levels of tumor necrosis factor alpha than unstimulated and latex-fed cells, while lipid-free hemozoin did not reproduce these ***,hemozoin effects were mimicked dose-dependently by 15(S,R)-hydroxy-6,8,11,13-eicosatetraenoic acid,but not by ***:Present data suggest an essential role for lipids in hemozoindependent enhanced release of tumor necrosis factor alpha from monocytes,and 15(S,R)hydroxy -6,8,11,13-eicosatetraenoic acid could be one possible specific mediator.

Objective:To investigate the effect of malarial pigment(hemozoin,HZ) on expression of heat shock proteins(HSPs) and cell viability in human monocytes by using a stable cell line(THP-1 cells).Methods:THP-1 cells were fed with native HZ or treated with pro-apoptotic molecule gliotoxin for 9 ***,the protein expression of HSP-27 and HSP-70 was evaluated by western ***,HZ-fed cells were cultured up to 72 h and cell viability parameters(survival,apoptosis and necrosis rates) were measured by flow cytometric analysis. Results:HZ increased basal protein levels of HSP-27 without altering those of HSP-70 in THP-1 cells,and promoted long-term cell survival without inducing *** expected,gliotoxin inhibited HSP-27 protein expression and promoted long-term cell ***: Present data show that HZ prevents cell apoptosis and enhances the expression of anli-apoptotic HSP-27 in THP-1 cells,confirming the previous evidences obtained from HZ-fed immunopurified *** the use of a stable cell line is pivotal to perform HSP-27 silencing experiments, monocytic THP-1 cells could be a good candidate line for such an approach,which is heavily required to clarify the role of HSP-27 in survival of impaired HZ-fed monocytes during falciparum malaria.

The Silicon Tracker （STK） is one of the detectors of the DAMPE satellite used to measure the incidence direction of high energy cosmic rays. It consists of 6 X-Y double layers of silicon micro-strip detectors with 73728 readout channels. It is a great challenge to read out the channels and process the huge volume of data in the harsh environment of space. 1152 Application Specific Integrated Circuits （ASIC） and 384 ADCs are used to read out the detector channels. 192 Tracker Front-end Hybrid （TFH） modules and 8 identical Tracker Readout Board （TRB） modules are designed to control and digitalize the front signals. In this paper, the design of the readout electronics for the STK and its performance are presented in detail.

The DArk Matter Particle Explorer(DAMPE) is a space-borne apparatus for detecting the highenergy cosmic-ray-like electrons, γ-rays, protons and heavy ions. The Plastic Scintillator Detector(PSD)is the top-most sub-detector of the DAMPE. The PSD is designed to measure the charge of incident highenergy particles and it also serves as a veto detector for discriminating γ-rays from charged particles. In this paper, a PSD on-orbit calibration procedure is described, which includes the five steps of pedestal, dynode correlation, response to minimum-ionizing particles, light attenuation function and energy reconstruction.A method for reconstructing the charge of incident high energy cosmic-ray particles is introduced. The detection efficiency of each PSD strip is verified to be above 99.5%; the total efficiency of the PSD for charged particles is above 99.99%.

Sarcopenia is a well-known complication of chronic liver disease(CLD),and it is almost always observed in patients with cirrhosis,at least in those with decompensated *** nonalcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD),recently renamed metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease(MASLD),is becoming the leading cause of end-stage liver disease,a new scenario characterized by the frequent coexistence of NAFLD,obesity,and sarcopenia is *** it is not yet resolved whether the bidirectional relationship between sarcopenia and NAFLD subtends causal determinants,it is clear that the interaction of these two conditions is associated with an increased risk of poor ***,during the course of CLD,deregulation of the liver-muscle-adipose tissue axis has been ***,owing to the lack of properly designed studies,specific therapeutic guidelines for patients with sarcopenia in the context of NAFLD-related CLD have not yet been *** aimed to induce the loss of fat mass together with the maintenance of lean body mass seem most *** can be achieved by properly designed diets integrated with specific nutritional supplementations and accompanied by adequate physical *** studies aiming to add to the knowledge of the correct assessment and approach to sarcopenia in the context of NAFLD-related CLD are eagerly awaited.

Cancer has nowadays become one of the leading causes of death *** anticancer approaches are associated with different ***,innovative methodologies are being investigated,and several researchers propose the use of remotely activated nanoparticles to trigger cancer cell *** idea is to conjugate two different components,i.e.,an external physical input and *** are given in a harmless dose that once combined together act synergistically to therapeutically treat the cell or tissue of interest,thus also limiting the negative outcomes for the surrounding *** both the properties of the nanomaterial and the involved triggering stimulus,it is possible furthermore to achieve not only a therapeutic effect,but also a powerful platform for imaging at the same time,obtaining a nano-theranostic *** the present review,we highlight the role of nanoparticles as therapeutic or theranostic tools,thus excluding the cases where a molecular drug is *** thus present many examples where the highly cytotoxic power only derives from the active interaction between different physical inputs and *** perform a special focus on mechanical waves responding nanoparticles,in which remotely activated nanoparticles directly become therapeutic agents without the need of the administration of chemotherapeutics or sonosensitizing drugs.

Bioplastics were first introduced as environmentally friendly materials,with properties similar to those of conventional plastics.A bioplastic is defined as biodegradable if it can be decomposed into carbon dioxide under aerobic degradation,or methane and CO_(2)under anaerobic conditions,inorganic compounds,and new cellular biomass,by the action of naturally occurring *** definition however does not provide any information on the environmental conditions,timescale and extent at which decomposition processes should *** regard to the aquatic environment,recognized standards have been established to assess the ability of plastics to undergo biodegradation;however,these standards fail to provide clear targets to be met to allow labelling of a bioplastic as ***,these standards grant the user an extensive leeway in the choice of process *** these reasons,the comparison of results deriving from different studies is *** authors analysed and discussed the degree of biodegradability of a series of biodegradable bioplastics in aquatic environments(both fresh and salt water)using the results obtained in the laboratory and from on-site testing in the context of different research *** Oxygen Demand(BOD),CO_(2)evolution,surface erosion and weight loss were the main parameters used by researchers to describe the percentage of *** results showed a large variability both in weight loss and BOD,even when evaluating the same type of *** confirms the need for a reference range of values to be established with regard to parameters applied in defining the biodegradability of bioplastics.

Bicycle traffic operations become increasingly important and yet are largely ignored in the traffic flow community,until *** hypothesize that there is no qualitative difference between vehicular and bicycle traffic flow dynamics in single-file case,so the latter can be described by reparameterized car-following *** test this proposition,we reproduce German(Andresen et al.,2014)and Chinese(Jiang et al.,2016)bicycle experiments on a ring with the intelligent-driver model(IDM)and compare its fit quality(calibration)and predictive power(validation)with that of the necessary-deceleration-model(NDM),which is specifically designed for bike *** find similar quality metrics for both models,so the above hypothesis of a qualitative equivalence cannot be ***,calibration errors of the IDM turn up to be slightly smaller compared to the NDM *** NDM represents significant calibration errors for high flow densities,which correspond to flow states,when stop-and-go wave *** to validation tests,the IDM outperforms the NDM as *** two types of validation techniques we discover that inter-driver variation is much higher than the intra-driver variation for bicycle *** coincides with the results obtained from vehicular traffic experiments(NGSIM trajectory data).In addition,we suggest the measure for quantitative comparison of two microscopic fundamental diagrams,which are derived from experimental data and simulated *** analysis of speed-density relations provides more or less the same results for both models.
